Fangs of Asterkarn Development Update - June 2025

You’ll have to forgive me / in my defense but the first thing you see is
New Game Mode (bpm ~120)
10th mastery (bpm ~150)
Potion customization (bpm ~170)
Affix Transmutation (bpm 220)
Then as I regained consciousness saw ‘Awaken Epic items’ and realizing how much work that is and the many lovely epics that will be made useful - lost consciousness again, so I’m afraid I didn’t make it to the last line, at least not with all my faculties.

If we were running out of money, splitting our focus to make another product would be the absolutely dumbest thing we could have done. If our goal was to quickly rake in some cash for a third expansion, we would have taken preorders and rushed something out. Hiring another 10 developers (that’s +50% company size, by the way) since the expansion was announced would also make absolutely zero sense if we were “running out of cash”.

Also apparently we’ve been “running out of cash” for nearly 2 years, so that’s a pretty long time to be clawing along without outside investment.

Reality is, Farthest Frontier has already blown past our expectations for Early Access with over 1.5 million copies sold. It has crushed Grim Dawn’s numbers in the same timeframe. We are financially secure, and most importantly, we are steadily growing.

People that are running out of money don’t suffer from scope creep. We have live products that are selling well and reviewing well, and we are taking that money right around and improving those products without raising the price tag. What I did admit was that we stopped thinking about a due date and just kept making stuff, because we have the luxury of doing so.

So yeah, when someone is giving us shit for missing an ESTIMATE, we are not particularly receptive to that. And when wild theories like this start slinging incompetence our way, I will not be receptive to that either.

We didn’t set a release date…

If you’re gonna type me up a thesis on these wild theories, at least do your homework.

How…we’re not taking preorders…what would the logic even be?

FoA is looking absolutely amazing. Take all the time you need since we know you all produce fantastic products in the end!

Take the time you need to make the best product you can.

I’m sure most people don’t mind waiting as much as necessary and enjoy these posts about the intricacies of your development process, but as usual the negative comments are usually the loudest ones. So just focus on the constructive feedback and ignore the rest!

Looking forward to this expansion of my favorite ARPG!

Thanks for the update. Take your time and bring the next chapter of the Grim Dawn universe when it’s done.
The devs like you are a “unique monster” in the present. Respect!

Next time you have a thought you think is worth sharing, just let it go.

Looks great, thanks for the update. Spring 2026 is just enough time to come back to GD now, create a new round of characters, play too much for a few months, back off the game for a while, then be sufficiently rejuvenated enough to no life FoA on release. Can’t wait.

You guys take your time the update looks so sick!

Thank you for the update, and your continuous efforts to make Grim Dawn even better!

A few years back I would have never expected that we would get any new expansion in the first place, so please just take whatever time you need to fully implement everything you envision and polish it to your standards.

How much content (most of it for free!) was added to Grim Dawn since I started playing in 2018 is absolutely mind blowing to me. This is something I have never experienced with any other game I’ve played.

I have full trust in the entire development team and although I am eager to play the new dlc, I know that you are doing your best to get it ready as soon as possible. So just take your time, and don’t feel rushed to release anything in a half-finished state.

I always say this: with the right budget and resources, this is a company with the creativity to make the best games of this kind. The latest statement clearly proves that. I’m eagerly looking forward to the game’s release. Rather than something rushed and poorly made, I always prefer things to progress slowly but with quality

So I NEVER, post on forums… But I felt that I needed to ask a question…

" As it turns out, time is finite and key developers cannot in fact be everywhere at once. "

Ya’ll don’t have rift gates?

You known I don’t play these types of games usually. Hack -N- slash, kill the big boss to proceed. But I was looking for a new and Grim Dawn was on sale and I took the plunge. within 10 or 15 mins into the game I was hooked on the unique story.
And there were NO Bugs… I haven’t played a new game, at least from the big pub… I won’t mention the name, but lets just the true kings of RPG have been putting out crappy games since joining that particular pub.

So I have to say on the Dev’s defense, let them do their thing (I work in IT with Devs they can be sensitive without their coffee) lol
But seriously, you ppl bad mouthing about the wait… grow up, you have to for a sequel to a book to come out, wait for a movie sequel to come out, sometimes you have to wait to take a pee…
Waiting is part of life, and to wait for a really good steak, you have to let the pros do their thing.

So Crate Devs, I love that you guys can take your time and create a polished game.
And just on the side are you guys going to let my character have a little flirting in the game, just a little?
Thank you, I will retreat back into the void…

Product slippage generally only applies to products under hard contracts with time gates and payment milestones and late penalties. In the 1990s and for about a decade after until Steam, this often meant that some publisher could get product - any product, in any state - in a box on to Wal-mart shelves before that shelf space was eaten by a different frantic publisher the next week or month. Whether the game worked, or was good, or was as good as it could have been wasn’t always the first priority or consideration.

So for those of us that appreciate non-essential entertainment and art done well it is weird to hear at times and from some that independent publishers, finally free from the external grind of lenders and publisher-imposed timetables, who have against a lot of odds made it by themselves (and sounds like successfully too) for coming up on a decade now, should be less transparent about what they are working on and more beholden to the artificial deadlines of old.

We’re not even talking Silksong levels of wait here, let alone Duke Nukem Forever or Star Citizen.

Hello everyone, just creating this account to thanks the development team for this update.
I just bought a new Macbook Air and I also wanted to say that the current ones, with a layer of virtualization, can run the game very smoothly. So I just can’t wait for this new content to be live !!
5000+ hours and counting on my end, please keep crafting dreams.

If someone is interested, I’m running GD with a M4 MBA. I tried these solutions :

  • Crossover : Very smooth in ultra settings, but weird texture flickering and bad lighting in the main menu when lighting or shadow configurations are not at the lowest.
  • VMWare Fusion : I did not configure that a lot, but it did not seem to cut it.
  • Parallels : Incredible results, but forces you to install a virus called Windows on your mac, and does not recognize my controller (minor problem to me since a mouse and keyboard is all I need for this game in theory)
  • Kegworks : Even smoother and actually recognizes my controller, does not need Windows installed.

Like i said, its mostly about putting the breaks

Glad to hear there are still working options for Apple. Last time some of us looked into it was around Ashes of Malmouth with Codeweavers’ Crossover or Wineskin. Shame Proton doesn’t work better in that area.

Well, I am not disappointed, I can wait. I still have not played any character with the Oathsworn mastery yet, and have so many character setup plans they will occupy me for quite a bit!
The Kurn city and the environments look great. And finally, proper Wolves! Well ice Wolves but still. I have a soft spot for them thanks to TQ’s Nature mastery. Hope some item or set lets you summon such as pets… y’know everyone would want to run around as a Werewolf with Wolves!

Kegworks actually is Wineskin’s successor. I can’t find any downside to it except its non-intuitive configuration (Had to use a guide to install steam properly) and long startup time. Once it is started it is a breeze, I only get very small lags with the highest available settings

Personally I am not sure how I feel about the announcement in terms of a release date. Content wise, there is no question, that everything is 5-star.

The best way I can put it: The issue so much isn’t how far away, it’s the choices of ARPGs on the market to play in the meantime. Compared to GD, they are absolutely a downgrade. When you only want to play an ARPG, this kinda makes the wait a bit rough. However the large patches (like the one being tested) do help and I hope there is at least another 1-2 before FoA.

Ultimately I am glad Crate decided to go this route and look forward to playing a solid game that clearly shows it was made with heart.
