Fangs of Asterkarn Development Update - June 2025

Everything looks great so far! I’m just glad GD was brought out of maintenance and has been given consistent updates. Very much looking forward to whenever this expansion release in the state it should be.

that’s a fair perspective, definitely hadn’t crossed my mind.

which was pretty much top of mind instead for me.

ouch :scream: :sob:
can you just encourage grimlore/the tq2 team then? that this is an all-clear for them to go early access now? like right now?

i don’t wanna but can’t really help it at this point. there comes a time when one even burns out from playing/theorycrafting grim dawn (like using its editing tools ).

Doesn’t a scam require somebody to make money for it to be a scam? There’s no pre-ordering for the expansion so thus far they’ve made no money off it. If this is a scam, it’s gotta be one of the dumbest ones of all time

Personally, I don’t think that the announcement was “Too soon”

More… It didn’t convey the exact nature of the situation as well as it wanted.

Like, when I read the announcement, I wasn’t getting the vibe of “We’re just starting development on this expansion so keep watching for updates as we work on it”

So I came away thinking “Oh it’s coming out soon, I guess I’ll wait a few weeks for it to drop and get to playing it!”

As far as timeframe goes… Whatever. I prefer “Release when it’s done” over arbitrary deadlines (Though I recognise that the former is not always possible… You make no money from an unreleased product while staff working on it need to be paid) - I’d imagine many people have the same feeling, especially with the current climate of “AAA” gaming and their half baked releases…

That said, I’m eagerly awaiting the expansion release. Ever since the announcement I put the run I was doing on hold (A Vit Totem Shaman build) because I wanted to wait for the new expansion and all its new items and the new class so I can theorycraft 432.5 new builds and mess around in the new area. (It also helped I was sidetracked by ER and BG3, I also got around to picking up CP2077 too)

Also, GD2 hype (I remember years back when you guys said GD2 was not in the works as you wanted to diversify with games of other genres… That we’re reaching the point where you’ve not only done that but are getting back to GD2 is exciting… And makes me feel old)

I am just happy that we are getting a new expansion, whether it comes out this year or the next. We had all thought that expansions were done for the game, so anything we get from here on out is a huge bonus!

I know Crate will do a wonderful job, as always, and the more time you guys have to cook the better it will be!

I like the idea of Endless Dungeons. I don’t like SR for the reason that I like to collect loot on the fly and not at the very end of the run. Because of this, I don’t play this game mode at all, but I’m probably in the minority anyway. It’s a shame that no mod has been created that would change this. In D3, I also preferred doing the Nephalem Rift to GRifts.

Does not matter how long it takes… I will be here…
And there better be a Mammoth-pet somewhere in this expansion or I riot…
I want…I NEED a Mammoth…the Mammoth-craving is indeed…very big…

First of all, I want to express my full support and appreciation for all the hard work going into the new DLC. I’ve been following Grim Dawn for quite some years now, and I know that the quality and heart that go into each update and expansion are second to none. If more time is needed to bring so many cool features and content, then by all means, take that time. I’d rather wait and get something amazing than rush to something half-baked.

That being said, I do want to share one small piece of feedback, meant with all due respect. While I understand delays can happen (especially in game development), it feels like the news could have come a bit sooner. If this shift was something that could have been anticipated a few months earlier, I think communicating it sooner would’ve helped the community better align expectations (especially for those organizing projects like the community leagues, which rely heavily on timing and coordination).

Again, I’m not upset or disappointed, I’m just hoping that future updates might come a little earlier so the amazing community around this game can adjust and plan accordingly. Looking forward to whenever the DLC drops, I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait.

Thanks for everything, and keep up the awesome work!

I’m interested in supporting game companies that are more interested in delivering a good gaming experience than pushing out slop for profit, since that seems to be where most companies are. Stay the course, it takes however long it takes.

There’s already enough content in the current game to enjoy it for a decade in my opinion. So I don’t think any new content needs to be rushed at all. I’d much rather the company keeps their standards and keeps making games and DLC they are proud of.

Thank you guys. I really like this game. But… I really hope to play it before WW3. Especially in the country where I live, if the war breaks out, I will 100% have to go to the battlefield.

Looking forward to it! Thanks for the update!

Sometimes a break and coming back is nice. You have a (slightly) different look at things, maybe try out something you haven’t thought of before, etc.
I’m also not playing much these days, but it’s ok. I’ll have more fun when the expansion comes around and won’t be burned out when that happens.

I honestly do not care how long it takes. I know it’s going to be awesome and my check to y’all is already in the mail (figuratively speaking.)

Cairn wins.

That’s making an awful lot of assumptions about what is being worked on in the expansion - especially since it’s safe to say your eyeballs aren’t viewing their workscreens.

And then you are also drawing parallels between SC (I’m guessing that is referring to Star Citizen) and a Grim Dawn expansion - which I think we can rightly point out is a ridiculous comparison. Crate knows how to get their work finished and across the line in a decent time-frame, which they’ve proven multiple times. The current situation is actually the odd man out compared to the previous expacs, which took a year and half, each, to produce. So, I feel confident that no brakes will need to be hit for them to remain far and away from spending 10 years on an expansion.

All you need is a touch of logic mixed with a cup of knowledge of Crates past development timelines and you can safely reach a better outcome than your doomsday proposal.

Honestly same here. I get people’s hype for the Grifts and/or SR, but for me personally i was never the biggest fan of the performance-based Endgame-Loops. I always prefered Endgames which expands and utlize the core-loop of such Games, just in a more replayable version. Like as example mapworks in Torchlight 2, Endless Dungeons in TL1, or as you pointed out Neph Rifts in Diablo 3, which still let you roam, kill, and gather loot, but with randomly generated maps (or in a random order). SR with such an Mode would be quite cool, but well in the end it is what it is.

i will still buy the expansion, take all the time you need, i appreciate your dedication and hard work.

Thank you for the update. I don’t know everything about developing video games, but I know it’s a massive amount of coding, (AND TESTING). I trust you guys at Crate to deliver a superior product, one that will improve our aRPG experience many times over.

I still have my Death Knight, my Paladin and my Warder who haven’t reached the Ultimate difficulty yet. And haven’t beat all the ultra-bosses. And I haven’t done the Crucible yet, so I have plenty to keep me occupied.

Keep up the good work and keep those GD Misadventures rolling!

Really, all you need is to look at things.

Star Citizen is full on “Early Access” abusing. Selling things before the game is released (Heck, selling things before they’re even added to the game. I’ve heard a story about how someone’s friend spent $1000 on a ship… And passed away before the ship was even added to the game)

Crate is not selling early access. They’re not selling pre-orders. They are not making any money off this expansion while it is in development.

Not only is this not exploitative, since they’re not selling an unfinished/in development product. But it also provides a finite window of development. Since… Developers need to be paid. Every day that goes by with them working on this project, they need to be paid for their work. So eventually they need to release it to earn money to recoup the expenses of working on it (And to provide the stockpile to fund working on new projects)

This is the literal scenario that actually caused “Early Access” titles to exist in the first place. To extend development time by being able to make a portion of revenue from selling Early Access to produce a better and more polished product.

Though Star Citizen happens to be one of the more egregious examples of such, where they seemingly have no intention of releasing a full product because they make way too much money by treating it like Live Service Slop that they have no need to sell a finished product.

Thank you for keeping us informed.
Honestly, I’d rather you all take the time you need rather then have it be rushed.

I love this game, and with how much care you’ve all put in to this game, I already know the finished expansion will be worth the wait.

Cheers, and thank you all for your hard work!
