Dear Grim Dawn Development Team,
First of all, thank you for your continued support and dedication to Grim Dawn over the years. The game remains a masterpiece of the ARPG genre, and your work on updates and expansions is deeply appreciated.
I am writing to respectfully request the addition of native DLAA (Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing) and DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) upscaling support to the game engine.
Why this would be a game-changer:
- Image Quality: Grim Dawn, despite its art style, suffers from noticeable aliasing (“jaggies”) and shimmering, especially on distant objects, foliage, and character edges. DLAA would provide arguably the best anti-aliasing solution available, completely eliminating these artifacts while preserving native resolution detail.
- Performance Flexibility: For players with higher refresh rate monitors or those pushing 4K resolutions, DLSS upscaling (Quality, Balanced, Performance presets) would provide a massive performance boost without sacrificing visual fidelity. The current anti-aliasing options (FXAA, MSAA) are either blurry or extremely performance-heavy.
- Modern Standards: As the industry moves forward, native DLSS integration is becoming a standard expectation for modern and long-standing titles alike. It would significantly modernize the visual experience of Grim Dawn.
Implementation Note (DLSS 4 / Transformer Model):
As you may be aware, the latest DLSS 4 (Transformer-based model) does not require per-game specific training or complex integration anymore. In many modern implementations, it is as simple as: - Including the standard NVIDIA Streamline SDK or the generic DLSS plugin.
- Providing a drop-down menu in the video settings with the standard presets: Quality, Balanced, Performance (and optionally Ultra Performance and DLAA).
The heavy lifting is done by thenvngx_dlss.dllfile, which users can update independently. The game simply needs to call the standard API. This means the development cost for implementing this feature is currently lower than ever, while the benefit to the player base is enormous.
Request Summary:
- Please consider adding native support for DLAA (as an anti-aliasing option).
- Please consider adding DLSS Upscaling with the standard presets (Quality, Balanced, Performance).
- This would allow players to enjoy a perfectly sharp, shimmer-free image at high framerates.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this request. The Grim Dawn community is passionate and loyal, and a feature like this would be met with tremendous appreciation.
Best regards,
A dedicated Grim Dawn player
