When barns are out of food, you get a non-valuable warning, since there is no way to know which food is needed.
In building menu, there is no food input listed at all.
Plus empty fields disappear in storage, which also has no value, since you then do not know which shortages you have.
In the last picture you’re showing a barn that has 132/128 food. It will always show you what the maximum amount needed for your current cows is. This can be made up of either wheat or root veggies.
With the “R” button, you can set it to show empty fields
