[Feedback] Dreeg set need some changes

Dear Crate team and community,

I again coming back to the weird stuff found in Dreeg set - both legendary and mythical versions.

  1. We all know that DEE skill does not provide direct support for chaos damage by default and there are no items with global acid/vitality convertion to chaos, nor DEE skill mods with such properties. So there are no real reasons for now to grant chaos damage to DEE through % WD mod.

However Vestments of Dreeg and Mantle of Dreeg provide % chaos damage boost. Moreover the shoulders are the only piece of set not granting % boost for vitality damage.

If chaos DEE is going to be supported in upcoming DLC FG, then just add % vitality damage to the Mantle of Dreeg. Otherwise it seems reasonable to get rid of % chaos damage from set items (except the proc) and replace it on shoulders by vitality damage.

  1. The reason why Runed Dagger of Dreeg grants flat vitality damage is a mystery for me. Taking into account this prefix for Conduit of Eldritch Whispers and this offhand it seems reasonable to change flat damage to acid to provide more diversity for both acid & vitality DEE spam builds.

P.S: Another weird thing is that while Pandemic is designed to provide more support for vitalty based builds (DEE, RE) the vitality damage boost is signifacantly lower (73%) compared to acid damage boost.

Agreed on all points

As for Pandemic my 2c is to change its base damage to vitality, change energy cost DEE mod to Crit DEE mod and change +1 NB to +1 Shaman or Necromancer. Most importantly add Decay and bonus duration.

This will help out gearing options for Vitality DEE, currently they have no alternatives to DEE set.

Speaking of Vitality, it’d be great if Dying God nodes and Hungering Void got some % Vitality Decay bonus. BK solved most of Decay’s problems

True. Even Voice of Dreeg + MI offhand can’t beat the Dreeg set in terms of DEE max damage. I tested it on acid and vitality DEE spam builds.

It’s true they cannot beat Dreeg Set but that wasn’t my intention for suggesting these changes.

Acid DEE has many gearing options besides Dreeg’s Set that allow us to make all kinds of DEE builds but Vitality literally has one. An extra Vitality based DEE weapon wouldn’t be too bad imo.

so you want to give us even less Legendary caster chests for Chaos builds. I mean we already have ZERO specifically for chaos damage as is.
I mean if they remove the chaos damage from Dreeg’s, then the only choice we have is the shitty Clairvoyant’s Robe that converts 20%+ chaos damage to aether damage.

What do you mean by “caster chest”? For now we have 4 legendary chests granting chaos damage: Infernal Knight’s Jacket, Devil’s Cage Hauberk, Vestments of Dreeg and Clairvoyant’s Robe.

Actually we have more options here - 2 legendary chests mentioned above and these: Cloth of Unspeakable Invocation and Infector’s Shade.

I don’t see the reason (except possible changes in FG) Dreeg chest to grant chaos damage (compared to the set bonus its contribution to chaos damage is Meh) since the set is not designed for chaos builds. What I got from your post is that the real issue is in lack of gear (chests) support for chaos (caster) builds.

Clairvoyant isn’t a chaos chest lol. You literally lose chaos using that item. And by caster chest he probably means, well caster chest. Out of the 4 you listed only Vestments of Dreeg (and claurvoyant, which is for aether) is a caster chest. I agree that we need more for chaos.

I do see where you’re coming from on chaos damage and dreeg chest, but until FG comes and it introduces a lot more options for chaos, dreeg chest should remain unchanged.

I think by “caster chest” he meant one that grants flat energy regen (and having spirit req. and literally labelled as “caster chest armor” on the description) so only dreeg’s and clairvoyant’s applies but the latter is counterproductive for chaos builds since it converts some of it into aether, so you left with dreeg’s.

Right now an energy hungry chaos build (like chaos AAR) has only dreeg’s chest as an ok placeholder until you can farm a decent bloodsworn vestment.

And i don’t really see how that %chaos would have any negative effect on a non-chaos build anyway, unless you imply that the “useless” chaos damage should be replaced with something else that suits acid/poison/vit builds, but that would be a straight up buff for them and either that buff is needed or not, it has nothing to do with the %chaos damage on it.

Chaos damage is not that far from Dreeg’s domain lore-wise, just look at the Eye of the Guardian constellation.

As stated by the 2 posters above me only dreegs is an actual caster chest for chaos.
And cloth of unspeakable invocation and injectors shade aren’t legendary chests.

Well, not in all cases. If my understanding is correct we won’t loose chaos damage in case of damage convertion from skill mods. For example Tainted Power for AAR or this helm for Word of Pain.

Well, I understand your point but still feel confused by fact that non-chaos designed set has to support it and the shoulders don’t grant vitality damage.

While chaos damage has no negative effect on non-chaos builds ideally the set is not the right place for it in terms of concept.

It is questionable. As far as I remember from lore acid & poison are the main attributes of Dreeg. As for Gurdian - it does not match well to default damage types granted by DEE. :rolleyes:

Yes if you use the transmuter on aar you won’t lose damage. But aar is single target so you will lose 20% of your damage on your chaos aoe skills and procs you use to help your clear speed. I can’t ever see a reason you would use clairvoyant over dreegs for a chaos caster build.

This another part of the rethinking dreeg as a poison caster.

  1. There is no a single item that can support increased duration…

  2. The weapon is a joke… Get ride of vitality add acid and flat poison damge.

We know that venomblade out performance dreeg right now…

  1. I would say i have to use shadow strike with tainted eruption with a caster… and work if i jump into a bunch of mobs, but i risk to die…

  2. Change Abonation (Taitned Eruption) Scorpion (Ccorpion sting) to work on the target not around the char…

  3. wtf the set bonus? 33%chance to pass trough? What for? We all know dreeg is good with the trasmuter.

Vitality

  1. If we want to convert all the acid to vitality then get ride of the dreeg amulet.

After this i hope it will be a gladiator maker at least.

Sigh, still there are no comments from Crate on the reason(s) why (myth.) Runed Dagger of Dreeg provides flat vitality damage instead of flat acid and/or posion damage.

Is it possible that the dagger is intended to be used in non-caster bulds? May be something like that: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/aZqR915N ? Or maybe the truth can only be found when FG will be released?

P.S: I honestly tried many times to figure out possible reason(s) to keep the dagger as is, but always failed. :frowning:

Well, last time I brought it up, Zantai said “Poison is fine” and mods closed my thread. So tread carefully :wink:

From what I read there, Z was not happy that you complained about Acid&Poison without actually having tested the changes in 1.0.7.0 and ignoring most of them. So you essentially complained about patch 7 with your pre-7 experience, so Z has a point there. He didn’t close the thread though, he only said you should do your homework before posting.

The thread then was closed because it devolved into namecalling, not because of your opinion, so don’t conflate the two.

I tested A&P in 1.0.7.1, namely I tested “buffed” poison boots and most of all, hard capped DEE. I honestly stated that I did not test Vileblade and I think it’s not gonna be good (and I was wrong, thank god). But new Dreeg set, what is there to test, set still looks poorly designed on paper, and I pointed out what exactly is wrong with it. Don’t know about namecalling.

Maybe can still be more optimized in terms of defense, but I wanted to report my result:

  • I dual wielded to get phys res bonus and shorter CD Pneumatic Burst, ALSO because we want to use acid based weapon in main hand slot.

  • Spam dreeg doesn’t feel too good. It might be because the defense is still lacking, I at least expect it to outleech enemies’ damage in boss wave or at least trash wave, but the result is no. Even with 200% cast speed, 17k WD, and more than 3000% acid/poison damage multiplier. Might be a problem on DEE mechanics itself.

  • Still cannot complete 170 cruci (4buff), but again, it may be possible but I still need adapting to its playstyle and revamped its defense. So far I can deal with 2x reaper with some proper kiting, so the potential is there.

  • funnily I can complete 170 cruci (4buff) by transmuting DEE (still same item setup and devo). Because the playstyle is easier: stay a bit, stack your poison damage, and run. It takes about almost 12 minutes though.

Preliminary comment on Dreeg set from what I test:

  • Full set proc and amulet proc is so good.
  • The set definitely need phys res
  • Base weapon damage from its dagger should be acid.
  • Head proc is good, but its 100% skill disruption res need to go
  • Why no vit > acid conversion in the set? See from the latest set you design like blood knight and redesigned octavius. The first convert bone harvest fully to vitality, the latter convert Rune of Kalastor fully to physical
  • The spam dreeg mechanic itself is weird and kinda underwhelming. IDK what to comment to easily fix it though. Maybe other people can comments.
  • Mana PITA with spam dreeg. It is the problem from witch hunter itself though. I suggest to put some flat energy regeneration somewhere from blood of dreeg, solael’s witchfire, or possession.

It was interesting and useful from my point of view.

If I remember correct, I tried to play around with acid spam DEE Warlock build with MI offhand before the patch 1.0.7.0 release. The damage was not too bad, but still not good enough. BTW, even with skills from Arcanist mastery you still need to use mana potions from time to time.

I agree with all your comments on the set - the build based on it feels like a glass and you need to use too many skills to survive (oh yeah - old days in Vanilla game).

Sigh, the time has come to ask the question again - why not to grant acid flat famage to (Myth) Runed Dagger of Dreeg to give some love to spam acid DEE and to alight the damage with vitalty spam DEE?

I can only imagine 2 concrens againts it and provide the proof these concerns are false.

Q: Will this change hurt vita spam DEE damage?
A: No, it won’t. For vita spam DEE build we will definitely use one of this items (or both): the amulet or the offhand. These items will convert acid flat damage from the Dagger to vita for DEE, so no harm here.

Q: Will it make acid spam DEE OP and put vita DEE in disadvantage?
A: No. It will only align acid spam DEE damage and make it closer to the vita spam DEE. I believe even with flat acid damage on the Dagger vita spam DEE will still have higher damage due to full acid to vita conversion. We can’t convert vita to acid fro spam DEE without noticable loss in acid damage. Moreover, vita spam DEE has pretty solid support for ADctH from my point of view.

We have ~20600 vita damage and 9000 vita decay damage for DEE under permanent buffs and BoD.
With Hungering Void the DEE damage is boosted up to 22640 vita damage and ~9000 vita decay damage.
With additional buff from Dreeg set bonus DEE damage is boosted up to ~26540 vita damage and ~9520 vita decay damage.

We have 12364 acid damage and ~11300 posion damage for DEE under permanent buffs and BoD.
With Dreeg set bonus buff we get ~14900 acid damage and ~15130 posion damage for DEE.

Does anyone have other reasons/concerns not to grant flat acid damage to (Myth) Runed Dagger of Dreeg instead of flat vita?
