A short one that’s been bothering me for a while now. I couldn’t find it on these feedback forums but saw some on the reddit one.
Why do health and energy potions have a stack limit of 100? Why are they even diminishable items at all? I’m trying to think of a reason not to make them limitless, but can’t think of one. They can be bought cheaply at vendors, they have a cooldown already and drop like candy in the game.
Making them limitless (bottomless) like in D3 would create some QoL improvements like no inventory clutter (if you use less than you find), no need to endlessly click at vendors (if you use more than you find) and less pointless ‘loot’ on the screen.
Can anyone give me a (gameply/mechanical) reason why this would not an improvement?
While there’s the old school part of me that loves dropping pots, I’m not whole-heartedly against the idea. It’s a small QoL change, but it would help a tiny bit with drop clutter.
Now, an increase in cool down time(no more than 2 seconds, imo) to compensate for the infinite nature, or leave it the same? Personally cool with either, but could see even a slight increase potentially bothering some players, especially newbies who may rely on potions more early on.
Also, what IS with the 99 stack cap? I mostly see it in older games, or ones like Grim Dawn that take heavy cues from classic games. Did it come from a limitation like 00 causing an overflow, or limited UI space causing cut off? I’ve always wondered.
Probably worst answer for last week. How can same cooldown potion make constituition and hp regen pointless? And yes, in a world where you can cast 3 types of meteor and unlimited mortar trap shots without loading it etc, it is very logical… Only thing that is dumb is your answer.
Anyway, I think it is a good QOL one and i dunno if it is doable with this grandma engine. If this feature is available in QOL mods, then it is good news.
It’s not a constructive argument to call something dumb, so I’ll show you a mirror instead.
Make the potion magical in nature, requiring the original cooldown time to pull new liquid from the eldritch realm. Fixed the immersion.
Constitution and hp regen are still needed, nothing about the balance of the cooldown time should be changed, just the stacks of pots go from your inventory into the eldritch realm.
Engine shouldn’t be a problem since Soulseekkor’s TQDefiler mod allows you to stack infinite potions in TQIT and that’s without all the improvements Crate’s made to the engine since then.
I can’t see how it’s game breaking. Whether I’m carrying 1,000 health potions in one big lot or in 10 smaller ones I still have them and will still use them when needed. Okay, I’d save 9 slots if it was one big lot, but how much difference does that really make in my inventory.
Well, I always pickup all components for my shared stash, and sometimes they mix up with my potions. When filling my stash, I - more than once - accidentally put potions in the stash. Like I said before, it’s a minor QoL thing, I’m not complaining if they don’t even change it for a GD2 should that ever come. It’s just that I can’t think of a gameplay reason not to have a bottomless potion (that doesn’t need to be in the inventory btw, just a locked button in the UI).
Agreed. I don’t see any value add to the system in place now. Anything that could remove drop cluttering the screen while I’m trying to see what is going on is a big pluss imo.
