Feedback on FoI changes

I’ve done about 8 SR 30-31 runs with my chaos FoI Deceiver since the patch went up. Here’s how I feel about it so far:

  1. The increased length of the cone is so, so nice.
  2. So is the increased turn speed!
  3. Together, these two make positioning feel a little bit more forgiving. I more rarely find myself feeling frustrated that I just can’t get multiple guys in the cone. It’s easier to pull multiple bosses and find a position to hit them all.
  4. I was expecting a big damage increase from the Tainted Flame change. The damage is definitely higher (I’m seeing 400k crit ticks somtimes now, which I never did before). But it’s not absurd. I still don’t think we’re going to be seeing FoI builds breaking any speed records.
  5. My best SR run so far was still only in the 5:xx range, and that was an outlier with some lucky short rooms. That’s very good for me, and quite possibly somebody else will do better. But while the build is stronger, it doesn’t seem overtuned as a result of these changes.

Overall I’m very pleased. The clunk factor feels a lot better, and the single target damage got a buff that feels appropriate for the new pre-FoA baseline, but isn’t too much.

I doubt the next Top 20 will have any FoI builds in it, but it definitely feels less like a forgotten relic of an older era after these changes.

Would still love to see a minor buff specifically to Solael’s Devourer. Maybe a smidge more energy regen, maybe some -skill energy cost, maybe a couple % of life leech, or just a touch more flat chaos damage. Just for specifically this Deceiver build (hey, Deceiver needs love!).

I think Solael’s Devourer could get its flat RR increased from 18 to 25 and it will not break any game balance in such case since it’s a niche weapon choice to begin with.

The increased range and turning speed are great, much needed.

I also logged back after a long time to see the changes to FoI on my Deceiver. I did 34-35 almost deathless and within timer but aggro’d Aleks+Valdaran and I think died to lightning shotgun losing the timer in 35 bossroom. Although this setup Deceiver, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.2) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator is mostly untouched other than trying to move points into Intensify so maybe not optimal with all the changes now but FoI so skillpoint hungry…

Side question: What’s the optimal SR to farm now, just wanna test some of my older builds and a bit confused with the numbering and rewards changes.

rewards should be the same as i understood?
numbers is just old/2.5
so 30 = 75, 32=80, 34=85, so on

I stand by the idea that the starting point of FoI should be moved further back.

Here I am standing infront of Fabius who walked onto my hitbox and directing FoI at him. He is not being damaged by FoI:

TY, Yeah but they also added rewards to 85 I think so is the current bar for a solid build 30-31 or 34-35 within timer?

yes, 31 use the same data as 76.
75 and 76 are retained, and renamed to 30 and 31. SR 77, 78 and 79 are simply deleted.
