I don’t know: Totems feel fine, especially the first and second tiers to most of my non-optimized (also any below level94) characters. They already don’t have confirmation windows, so there is that too. For the loot, well, that shows how lackluster the rest of campaign is in comparison*, and how our expectations have been retrained by SR. And to be fair, while it’s definitely above what Normal SR gives in terms of loot, it’s more than below what you can get in elite-ultimate.
* Think bosses with a long walk to get to only to get a blood of chthon and some small amount of iron bits. Think Zaria the Carver with only one guaranteed drop, which is half of the time a seal of binding / blood of chthon.
Okay add that female bloodsworn dog to the list. Zaria is a piss-annoying character to farm for a 50% medal drop.
this is a joke inclusion right? there’s literally a portal 15 seconds from him inside his cave, pretty sure even if the back way was open it would take longer because of loading screen
^surely you mean Zaria or such?
Likewise Cronley has a portal relatively close buy even tho the map makes you go the long way, but still has a portal inside his lair 30secs from him
*i’m not denying the existence of the obvious backtracking blocks preventing cheese farm existing/deliberately being there, just saying Voldrak’s gotta be a troll example to use there, when devs literally granted us a direct portal to farm him
( and surely a more proper example would have been ex Zaria)
It is but it has to be. It’s the same reason Elite and even Ultimate end up being pretty easy. A player that has no pre-existing gear, lacks access to resist augments and lacks component blueprints needs to be able to make it through. If the totems are meant to be hard for a finished 100 character then anything but a finished character won’t even be allowed to touch them. And really, it’s the unfinished characters, working their way through the content and scrounging for good loot that need to be able to do them the most. Else they’ll just see all these wonderful troves of loot that might have exactly the blueprints and legendaries they need and all that’ll pop in their head is a big “not for you” sign.
And unintended, I apologize. It must have been the mistborn blueprint tedium clouding my judgement. Also I played footslogging characters with just a single movement rune for mobility, further skewing my experience.
Zaria I either meant or mentioned before.
I guess bloodbriar would be another annoyance? Had I bothered to visit him more than once per difficulty.
Can I ask for just a regular rift in Daila’s camp in Mourndale? When questing, the whole place is by far the most uncomfortable area to navigate in the game, and the girl is just sitting in the middle of huge nowhere.
Used teleport to farm Cronley. Not only because of distance, but because the bloodletter prefix is incredibly rare. For about 2000 runs only 3 rings with this prefix (probably bad luck?)
Simply increase the drop rates for enemies that take a long time to get to and make rare MIs more likely to have matching prefix+suffix. I imagine MI grind is just about the only reason to teleport, so fix the problem at the root. Running through the entire dungeon is more entertaining than teleporting to the same enemy and resetting over and over.
Gollus and Plagius are the worst ones imo. They are very far from rift and there are barely anything on the way. Harvoul and Nacrathan are only slightly better than that as they have chthonic seals and kymon/order MIs/nemesis as reward respectively.
I don’t mind walking a long way to boss as long as it has something fun/rewarding on the way tho. For example Broken Hills rift to Alkamos is quite long but you can get things like solael pants, a few totems, decent chance of moosi spawn etc and tbf the rogue-like dungeon part itself is pretty quick to run too, which makes it good farming route over all.
oh and can I also point out that Valdaran, Bennjahr and Kaisan are very slog to farm because they have way too many spawn locations? Aleksander has similar numbers to them but I feel like his spawn locations are “packed” enough that don’t annoy me too much.
kaisan is fine and can be done in minutes, he has like 25? spawns all in a “linear” route that’s easy and quick to check, probably one of the better/easier nemesis to farm actually, outside reaper
Valde and especially Benji you don’t wanna target farm direct tho, i don’t know why benji got 45+ spawns in like 20 different zones? it’s madness
I’ve never used GI, but I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned Port Valbury yet. I’ve only bothered to run through there a handful of times because it seems to take an age to get to the entrance.
probably because it’s not actually that long, it might just have the perception of being so because of either the windy map, or the aetherfire floor making it seem more notable for every inch travelled?
I agree it’s more of a perceived thing with getting to Port Valbury. I suspect it’s not much, if any, longer than getting to the Steps of Torment in practice, but Valbury is the only dungeon where I’ve thought it would be nice if there was a portal that little bit closer to the entrance. As for whether its the aetherfire or windy route, I think it’s probably a bit of both.
Would be really nice to be able to teleport straight to the skeleton key gates. Well, maybe not directly on top of the boss that guards the gate but somewhere nearby would help a lot.
As for long boss runs, a few come to mind that can become tedious after a while:
Zaria is very far away from the riftgate, one or two possible totems can make the run more worthwile but they don’t always spawn on the fastest path. At least you can get some chthonic seals so it isn’t a complete waste if there are no totems. Good luck getting a pet affix on her MI though (not sure if one of the recent patches increased the odds, it was a real pain when I did my farming runs)
Plagius has only one possible totem in his dungeon and it’s a very long way to his location too. Would be nice to be able to use the secret shortcut from the other side of the wall to get to him quicker, then you can still do the totem if there is one.
Gollus doesn’t have any totems on the direct path, and then you have to search for the hive entrance which feels like a waste of time when doing many runs in a row.
Blugrug is even worse than Gollus, as in there isn’t anything worthwhile on the way to his location. In case of Gollus, Plagius and Zaria you could at least take the scenic route and do a few totems that are somewhat nearby, but on the way to Blugrug there is nothing to do. Maybe you’ll see Aleks if you’re really lucky but that’s it.
There are probably other bosses that have the same issue as Blugrug but I didn’t farm them often enough to become bored
would probably feel “weird”
if it were me, i’d simply just trim down the amount of zones they can spawn in, and keep the total spawn points in line with the others
like, benji’s is just so weird compared to everyone else that has 20-30
tho i also don’t really think it’s an issue these days, since direct farming valde and benji is borderline meaningless, since you only would want to do so for their warrant, everything else is better obtained in SR or Crucible (imo)
and since their warrants isn’t even that necessary, since you can easily get nemesis state with these factions, i’m not that concerned with direct farming those 2
*still wouldn’t be bad to reconsider their implementation tho just for general QoL
heck, could even slap some additional effect on to the warrants so it actually became worth to farm for and apply on alts
