[Feedback] Weaker T-1 Devotions

I want to start of by saying that I won’t bother suggesting anything regarding Turtle since people seem to like it for some odd reason that I fail to comprehend and I am guessing from the devs POV Turtle is working as intended
Back to the topic, there are some obviously underused Tier-1 Devotions. I think a few buffs would do them good.

1. Aetherfire (Imp)-

Problems-

>15% Chance on Attack is too low
>% Chance to confuse doesn’t make much sense on this proc as it works against the proc’s nature (confused enemies walk away from the patch

Suggestions-

>25% Chance on Attack
>Increase the radius of patch to 3m (0.5m increase)
>Buff base damage of the proc
>Reduced enemy OA for “x” seconds (60 reduced enemy OA for 5 seconds)
>Chance to Slow target
>Add 232 Burn damage over 2 seconds (Or make multiple instances of the proc stack damage and add 0.6 second CD)

2. Tsunami (Tsunami)-

Problems-

>It sucks now that summons share CD on devotions. Earlier multiple WDs could spawn multiple Tsunamis but now it isn’t possible and it sucks

Suggestions-

>Reduce activation chance to 25%
>Add 252 Electrocution over 2 seconds
>Reduce %Weapon damage to 20%
>Reduce cooldown to 1 second

3. Guardian’s Gace (Eye of the Guardian)-

Problems-

>It’s not bad but 99% of the time Scorpion Sting is superior

Suggestion-

>Poison Damage should be changed to Acid damage. It’s meant to be a close range shotgun skill so this makes sense to me
It should be 193 Acid Damage instead of 232 Poison Damage over 2 seconds
>Add Petrify target for 1 second to augment the Shotgun potential (won’t affect bosses so this is practically harmless)

4.Scorpion Sting (Akeron’s Scorption)-

NOT A WEAK devotion, it’s pretty solid with the debuff but could use a small buff

Suggestion-
>Currently the CD on the skill is 1.5 seconds. Reducing it to 1 second or 1.2 seconds would be great

5. Falcon Swoop (Falcon)-

NOT A WEAK devotion, it’s pretty solid for shotgun but not as overused as it used to be so I think it’s safe to ask for a small buff

Suggestion-
>Currently CD is 2 second and the builds that suffer because of this are Bleed builds. It’d be great if CD was reduced to 1.2 or 1.5 seconds

6.Targo’s Hammer (Anvil)-

This isn’t exactly a weak constellation, but it’s not as strong as it used to be. Now I won’t ask for buffing the damage but rather the activation chance

Suggestion-
>Increase Activation Chance to 35% On Block. This would augment the shotgun potential and increase the overall strength. Currently the proc isn’t as lethal as it used to be.

You can and anvil to this. As of AoM that proc barely passes enemy armor in places like crucible. it’s mild and % block is rare and cumbersome to get after 60%-70% unless you go full defense mode. At least increase proc chance

Return the binding to the damage auras!

Aetherfire has 3 sec duration, not cooldown :stuck_out_tongue:

I wont bother to mention it, but why do people put sentences like the quote above in any post? They clearly want to mention it.

It truly boggles the mind.

Aetherfire doesn’t have any cooldown. And I fail to see how confuse is ‘never appreciated’ I like confuse for breaking up hordes of small enemies.

Although the damage from multiple instances don’t seem to stack - although that might make it too good.

Never an intended feature and a pretty much dead debate so I won’t bother with it in this thread.

Done

Avoid quoting the entire thing and shorten it to the relevant bit
And thanks I rectified it

LOL
Improved the phrasing of the first line

Improved the phrasing on the “confuse” part. The proc opens up an aetherfire patch underneath the enemy, confusion might cause them to walk away from the patch (unless I am mistaken)

Already rectified the bit about CD

Aetherfire doesn’t have any cooldown. There probably is a very small internal CD

Although the damage from multiple instances don’t seem to stack - although that might make it too good. You mean like Flame torrent? The only T3 T1 Devotion?:). It still wouldn’t be as strong as flame torrent but it would be better for sure.

Also the confuse works against the idea of the proc, which is to damage foes standing in aether fire. If they are confused they wander off…yay

I know this is an open secret but can you please remove this part
Please

Sleep wouldn’t work with aetherfire, sleeping enemies wake up upon taking dmg. The aetherfire tic would wake up the enemy the instant it was affected by sleep.

Petrify would be too strong. Maybe a slow instead?

Don’t think petrify would be strong but edited it anyway. Thanks

I’m not sure there would be any significant benefit to dropping the CD of scorpion sting. Correct me if I’m wrong, but surely most builds that utilise it would not have a skill with that type of CD (ABB maybe with CDR), or would place it on a proc anyway?

Open to suggestions

Increase %chance on attached skill/proc, or increase target radius perhaps.

  1. Aetherfire - I personally love it and can’t say it’s too weak, more like things are quite often aligned against it, which would explain the limited use. I don’t mind a buff, especially chance to proc to 25%, just imo it won’t popularize it much.

  2. Tsunami - thanks for reminding me that it exists.
IIRC I just disliked the proc on mechanical level, it’s not even about stats.

3, 4 - don’t play builds that could make use of them so don’t know. I’m of very high opinion of Scorpion though.

  1. Idk, same as Aetherfire I quite love the Falcon

  2. My totally ignored feedback on Anvil

Overall, I think we have a very different opinion about why these are underused. You place a big importance on procs, while I personally tend to drop these on end-game builds because such small %damage bonuses are not worth it.

My strategy is to grab utility stuff from T1 like OA/DA and generally avoid %damage T1 constellations that require much investment, since I could get %damage from T2s and T3s. E.g. 15% damage is roughly equal to 12 OA, and many T1 nodes provide more than that, and by simple ratio 80% damage is 64 OA and 100% damage is 80 OA. OA equivalent to T3’s damage bonuses just doesn’t exist in constellations, closest would be 5% OA from SotH and Ulzuin’s Torch.

It just feels more efficient to build this way, unless the constellation is just the perfect fit affinity-wise. It would take more than a slight buff to procs for me to change this habit.

Guardian’s gaze is awesome when you place with CoF but like you said it makes no sense for it to deal poison instead of acid, considering we already have a stronger poison devotion, making it Acid would improve it a lot, although petrify might make it OP against trash, perhaps fumble or confusion might be better

Doesn’t Aetherfire have essentially the same mechanic/skill template as Whirlpool? So damage from multiple Aetherfires should stack, right?

That said I pretty much agree with all of OP’s points.

Could we also talk about T1 constellations that don’t have any skills? Let’s take Rat for example. Rat has maybe 1 universally useful node at most, while other constellations like it have at least 2 (except Fox). But while you can take Raven as an alternative to Fox, there are no other 4-node constellations providing 2 red and 3 green. For the sake of consistency and balance it might make sense to make Rat and Fox more like Wretch and Stag.

Oh and let’s not forget Hammer…

In my opinion, not only tier 1 devotions, but all on attack skills must have additional proc chance when attached on WPS. WPS alreary have chance to be used instead autoattack, so total devotion chance decreases 4 times minimum.

Yes, it stacks. It is, in my opinion, a very strong Devotion.

Turtle Shell has been solid ever since the changes to the Order of Defense (making flat Damage Absorption the final calculation) and after getting another 1500 absorb in Ashes of Malmouth.

Hammer could use a buff. Anvil could use more flat Phys Damage on the proc.

It has incredible synergy with Prismatic Rage (from Prismatic Diamond) as well.
