FF or Civ7?

Downloaded Civ7 yesterday, am already considering deleting it, Farthest Frontier is much better.

I havenā€™t pulled the trigger yet on Civ7, but Iā€™m so nervous. I LOVE the franchise, but Civ VI just lost me. Something about how the mechanics changed, and the micromanagement required in terms of district placements, just turned me off. I played maybe 20 hours and gave up.

I was really hoping that Civ VII would be a return to the mechanics of Civ V - my favorite in the series by far - but based on reviews so far, it seems they actually doubled down on VI.

I mean of course Iā€™ll buy it / play it, when I have a weekend to spare, but Iā€™m worried :frowning:

Also, FF is awesome :).

I donā€™t see what this has to do about FF but civ 4 was better than all of the above combined. And civ 7 is nothing like FF soā€¦

If you want something refreshing, try Civ 5 with the Communitas Modset. Reworks the game and AI in a lot of ways, but not too much. Notable changes include:

  • Barbarians rarely invade your territories
  • Civics are much more rewarding
  • Natural Wonders give a lot more resources
  • A few Wonders (like Machu Pichu) give a nearby mountain in your territory near the building city to give a bunch of resources
  • A number of Civ changes
  • Some unit changes (Berber Cavalry and Gatling Gun are adjacent tile ranged attacks, for instance)
  • The Communitas Map with a few customisation options (like regular vs New World)

Before FF I played Civ 6 incessantly, then gave up on it as Iā€™d found my level and always won. FF has been challenging at times, sometimes itā€™s also too easy, the customised conditions always add a twist. I think Civ 6 is the shark jump, you say Civ 5, thatā€™s good too.

Play Civ 6 in Zombie mode, thatā€™s fun.

Iā€™ve been playing Civ VII since the Early Release on 6 February. I like it, but be warned: there are a host of mechanics and features that are very, very different from previous Civ games, so that turns off a lot of people. I found that the more I play, the more I like parts of it.

On the other hand, FF is an entirely different experience, and I particularly find it amusing that people use the term ā€˜micromanagementā€™ with any Civ game in contrast to FF, because I find FF to be right up there with Anno 1800 for micromanagement of production, people, and other mechanics.

And except for my experimentation with Civ VII (which, to be honest, needs some serious work on the UI to make it really palatable, and Modders are tackling that already) Anno 1800 is my ā€˜go-toā€™ game at the moment until final release of FF.

I confess, FF rather turned me off after I lost my favorite map seeds Twice when new Builds came out. Iā€™ll wait until final release to start another map at this point.

I just uninstalled Civ 7, their auto cycling of units doesnā€™t work, and I played Rome in the First Age but in transiting to the next age I became Ming Chinese, how is that possible? Disasters are set as low as possible but Iā€™m constantly repairing flood or storm damage, and when I ā€œexpandā€ my city I have no clue as to what Iā€™m doing. Even my military changed, City States of which I was Suzerain vanished, changed names and positions or deleted my suzerainty. I want my bloody money back, I reckon fixing all their stuff ups in paid for DLCā€™s is where theyā€™ll make a killing.
