those who make several fields of cultivation, in a field where the maximum is 8 workers, up to what number of workers is it still profitable?
most of my fields have 5 or 6 workers at most, where I have 4/6
The size field you’re looking for is 9x5, as it requires the least amount of area added to increase the number of farmers assigned.
But the number of fields you tend is more important than the number of farmers tending them.
Farmers are not assigned to individual fields, and will work the first field they come to, and then the next, in progression of distance to travel.
They will eventually run out of time to accomplish the next plantings of the furthest fields.
It is better to maximize the size of your farms and limit their overall number, than to maximize or minimize the number of workers to a greater number of smaller fields.
So I have followed your other threads on farming and what is your max size 12x12 or 10x10?
I started with 16 half-size farms on a map that completely collapsed because of the number of farms they needed to tend, then moved to the 10x10 in v7.5, but v7.6 changed the default size of the Pasture to 12x12.
For uniformity of layout, and maximum field performance, I go with that.
The fewer number of fields your farmers must work to feed the populace, the better.
A 12x12 can be split into two fields in the beginning if needed, you want to feed barn animals or for crop variety, but once more than one 12x12 plot has been cultivated and starts producing edible goods, it’s better to revert split-fields back to full 12x12 size and gain variety by tilling more 12x12s.
At this point I’m usually trying to bulk up from T2 to T3, so more houses are already on the way, for more people, and more farmers.
I only do 5x10 fields and group them by 3 (for rotation purposes). Only 2 workers per field, good yield and variety. With 12 compost yards in my 1k city I also have no fertility problems with 6 or 7 fields getting compost each year.
