Hi guys, as title states I have played like 250+ hours in this game and I hate to admit it but I have never gotten past Ultimate story difficulty into what would be classified as “endgame”. I really do enjoy the grittiness of this game, the skills, the sounds and the feel of combat; but I just feel something is missing…
Does or has anyone felt this before with GD and any tips to help me to power myself to at least complete a character, or to help the feeling and thoughts of ‘what is the point’ whenever I am doing something in this game?
Also after the first character you can level new ones to 100, get them to endgame and test new builds way quicker (up to just a few hours). Another thing is that at endgame, max level gear can be pretty cool, you haven’t gotten much of that I assume. You may find it exciting to build new characters around it.
Maybe you would enjoy the endgame but if you’re bored then consider taking a break, 250h is a fine number, and wait for the expansion which is going to introduce many new systems to make things more interesting.
For the first character to get to the endgame I’d play the skill you like the most. Test all of them and find the one you really like using.
This can be a very deep question. What is the point of any game?
In the end it’s just entertainment. Something for you to enjoy, to relax, to maybe find a challenge in. With this game, many people enjoy putting together builds, sometimes even more than playing them.
I’d say pick one of your character that’s closest to 100 and finish the storyline on ultimate. (The story is actually pretty nice imho.) Then maybe look up a build using the skill, or as @tqFan said, take a break and come back later
I have 6000+ h never felt this way, what I do to keep my interest is to keep backup of my main save folder and just start completely from scratch
(SSF) . I do once in awhile thematic runs or role play runs . I have in my rooster Chthonic hunter , Cronley Arsonist , Ulgrim wanna be ,Chthon collectimg his own blood etc the way to make the game interesting for you is to using your imagination, cause the game suddenly won’t become very interesting on its own if you feel this burn out
These days I only do one full playthrough per character. On Normal and Elite I only do devo shrines and some quick quests if they are on the way, also totems when I see them pop up on the map. Once I have all 55 devo points I switch to ultimate, with the usual xp boosts that’s somewhere around level 50-60.
I think for a long time that GD should have a mode for onetime playthrough. And I don’t mean starting right in ultimate like now is possible which is just a slog.
I actually fear that the game will be quite bloated with the new expansion… And I am not much of a fan of the new expansion.
At the start, definitely. I wish they’d make act1 a little less painful. It’s not necessarily hard, it just takes forever to kill heroes/bosses. Not fun.
I sometimes start in elite, because it’s a little better and then switch to ultimate after killing Krieg. Sometimes I just endure the pain but I’d like if it was all a bit smoother.
Ever since Merits, I haven’t touched Elite other than to top up on shrines before going Ultimate.
A playthrough on Veteran will get you to around level 67-68 and 46 Devotion points.
Though I do agree with the general sentiment. The main point of ARPG, which is leveling and progression, stops pretty quickly in Grim Dawn. Devotion shrines doing nothing shortly after Veteran. Hitting level 100 before finishing Ultimate. Leveling feeling almost off-putting from level 90-100…
I generally, sans a few exceptions, drop any and all characters shortly after finishing Ultimate, getting all the planned items and getting the final skill points. Farming the same items over and over in hopes of better RNG and nothing else has always been my least favorite activity in these games. So I generally just roll the next character.
The allure of reaching the next level or any other kind of progression except items being completely absent in GD end game is a big meh to me. And the reason why I’d rank Titan Quest and Sacred 2 above GD. Also, leveling in those games, at any point, does not feel actively detrimental. As is the case in GD after level 94 due to enemy scaling and basically non-existent gains from levels 90-100.
Though it is definitely subjective. My goal in ARPGs is the push towards the level cap, which usually marks the point I retire the character. And that happens entirely too fast in GD.
