Fire retaliation - shield breaker

I’ve made this in grimtool’s and aspiring to get something close to it;

I typically copy builds - I suppose this has borrowed inspiration, but my first attempt at something my own’ish.

Is there anything glaringly wrong/stupid/impossible - ‘impervious for example’

Thank you!

The offensive ability (OA) is too low while the defensive ability (DA) is too high. High DA means monsters are difficult to hit you, and low OA means your skills have a low probability of hitting monsters. I think it is better to have 3000+ OA and 2800- DA.
As a retaliation build, most of skill damage is based on retaliation (described as “% of retaliation demage add to attack”), this value can be found on page three of the character’s panel, normally, the value of retaliation is above 100,000.
I made some changes based on your build, but changed a lot…so sorry, I’m not sure it is polite to share my link directly.
My personal advice is to aim for higher OA, lower DA, and increase retaliation damage as well as % retaliation damage.

Honestly I’d appreciate the link!

I find grim tools difficult to navigate so some help is welcome!

A lot of the changes are based on personal preference. For example, in my devotion, I didn’t choose obelisk of menhir for higher demage. Also, I didn’t light Solal’s Witchblade, my build has both fire and lightning retaliation damage, so choosing only -% fire res is not that good. In skills, i gave up judgment because i do not have enough skill points.

I have tried many retaliation builds, but I have not played aegis of menhir before, so there must be some shortcomings.

Thank you, it certainly has given me some ideas on where to improve - have you any experience with trying to get perfect roles on crafted items etc? Is it a really bad idea?

I appreciate the time you’ve taken to make this, do you mind if I post any revisions or should I leave you in peace!?

Of course my honor, any revision is ok.

If you want to create some items or change character archive, try GD Stash. you can find it in Mods and Utilities -COMMUNITY part.

Personally, think twice think twice before using GD Stash, especially for new players. I’ve been playing this game for over 2000 hours and I find testing different builds makes me happy, so I started using gds this year, for convenience. But this also made me lose patience to get items in the game because I had the tools.

I can’t simply say whether it’s a good or bad idea, it’s up to you anyway.

So I’ve made some changes ( your version is still better^^)

If I take scales for the RR and extra health will that work as a poor version of elemental storm? If not I would take the points out of crab and put back to storm.
I chose to keep the rings, as I thought the uptime would be pretty good - I’m unsure how much I’ll need to heal.
I was really tempted with three piece dawn breaker but kind of thought it lost identity by that point!

Thanks once again!

(edit: i’ve spent so long in grimtools i think i’m going mad)

  1. I find you didn’t use the mythical version of weapon, its 3set bonus is powerful. Or you can choose 2 set of weapen and amulet, change shoulder to Divinesteel shoulderguards. Or choose other weapen, for example Blazeheart, Dracarris. Or use green amulet in my version, it porvides 15% retaliation modifier for aegis

  2. The rings, scale and elemental storm offer the same effect, they reduce x target’s res, This effect cannot be superimposed, so if you choose the rings, the other two are not necessary, if you want more life steal, then fox or ghoul is better. You can also use rings and elemental storm at the same time (strom has the best effect of reduce 32 res), and change scale to something else.

  3. About devotion, if cancel scale and crab, you can light up stag and obelisk, or light up hyrian or affliction.

  4. If fire retaliaition dominates, then better to choose solael’s witchblade.

And finally, if not sure about your build, you can test it in game for further improvement.

I’m sorry to bother you again! I ‘think’ I’ve finally got there!

The greens are pretty unlikely to roll but I guess I’ll never know! I’ve just levelled this to 90 now so I’m getting close to getting it to take shape.

I’ll post an update as the build goes along…

I made it in Grimstash in the end but the outcome was fun! I just wanted to share what I ultimately ended up with & say thank you for the pointers - I didn’t really know what to aim at numbers wise!

I’ve just done SR 70 - Anasteria was dicey but most other things weren’t to bad.

Soooo sorry that I haven’t logged on to the forum recently. I think you need more life steal, only 3% in this version.

I made minor changes to the component and augment of weapons and jewelry, reducing some retaliation damage, and increasing life steal and acid resistance(unholy inscription have 5% life steal in public test version, or restless remains is ok).

More about agument, maybe Nature Havest for weapon is a good choice, +6%demage to human, it helps to deal with Iron Maiden and Fabius, they have high fire res.

Good luck in the end!

Haha, they look good.

I have a self made pyran sorcerer - always wondered why Iron Maiden was tough.

There is Adcth on Aegis but it does struggle against single bosses more - this is probably why. Am I correct in thinking that the only other leach is on flame breath - is that right?

The ‘high’ spirit is a legacy of me using blazeheart - is this one for me to mess around with? It has low energy but that hasn’t seemed to matter yet.

I appreciate every reply no matter the wait, you’ve improved this so much for me already thank you!

  1. Iron maid has high fire and light res, and higher da than other boss. You can find it in monster database from grimtools.

  2. spirit is not that important, this build, its dmg mostly based on retaliation demage, physique or cunning is better.

  3. I still believe elemental storm is very important.

I didn’t visit forum recently so this reply is a little bit late :sob: hope it useful for you.
