First Character Experiences

So on my first character I chose Shaman as my mastery, because… 2hand and lightning stuff. Then, at level 10 I chose demolitionist as my second mastery, because I found the passage in lower crossing, where the hidden path starts (found that out on my second character) and you need dynamite to open it.

Spoiler: Demolitionists can’t open those passages, although they have access to explosives. (I literally tried to break the wall with BWC, Granado and Canister Bomb for 15 minutes)

I then procceded to put 1-5 points into everything, needed both skill-bars for my active skills and never touched toggled stuff like mogdrogen’s pact or flame touched. (I thought those would drain my energy like toggled spells in LoL do)

Conclusion: I hit a wall in Veteran Ugdenbog, because I didn’t ever bothered patching resists and just took the stuff that did damage.

Please share your own experiences with your first character (if you still remember :D)

P. S. Devotions lol almost every t1 devotion, falcon on a lightning build and stuff.

My first character was Kenji, a Witchblade (started with Soldier) all the way back in July 2013! I liked the idea of adding dark magic damage to basic attacks so I maxed Solael’s Witchfire, Markovian’s, Zolhan’s, and Will to Live (now called Menhir’s Will or something). I can remember finding my first Epic item in the Warden’s Lab, the Madness sword! It was perfect for my Witchblade character!

The strongest enemy at the time was Gutworm, so after my Witchblade reached the level cap of 25 I farmed that boss a bunch for the loot chest. Those were fun times…

Ended up having to delete Kenji because his build wasn’t very good, but I’ve since remade him into a Blade Arc Witchblade…which is working out pretty well thus far.

Gosh a while ago now, but I’m pretty sure my first was a Soldier, this would be back when we first had early access in 2013. Since I’d really only played Titan Quest Immortal Throne as far as RPGs went and I’d played a Conqueror as a first toon in that and enjoyed it I picked what I thought would be the tankiest mastery out of the initial 3: Occultist and Demolitionist being the other 2. Can’t remember how far he got to now, but I think he was still hanging around on my playlist at B25 update. Never got out of Normal iirc, but then few of my characters ever do.

I think my first was a 2h firestrike ranged pyromancer. If i remember correctly i messed up with stats and he was squishy. Devotions…there were no devotions back then. He was named Solomon Kane

Yeah, devotions were probably no more than a twinkle in Zantai’s eye, if that back then.

lvl 25 Demo with all item slots filled with flat fire dmg

My first character was an absolute disaster. Reaper with Shadow Strike and Bone Harvest and a rushed Leviathan constellation. Had uncapped resists all the way through elite and no recovery aside from a maxed Blade Barrier and health tonics.

Some day I’ll fully respec him into something I want, but for now he’s just a legendary mule/Order of Death’s Vigil mandate buyer.

AAR Sorcerer. I couldn’t even finish veteran  I made all the classic mistakes, stacked only +% damage, spent all my points in spirit, ignored the mastery bar, didn’t use components or augments, etc.

I learned a lot from that character, mostly how not to do all these things.

Sounds exactly like what first characters are for.

I dunno about first character, since I’ve played on and off since 2013, but just last night I went into BoC, opened the door with my Skeleton Key, rotated my camera, ran forward (the way I just came) and the door closed.

It was my last Skeleton Key.

Ty for sharing this. It was a good laugh.

I remember like it was yesterday. I saw Grim Dawn on someone’s fave list and decided to try it out. I jumped into the game and chose Demolitionist because the pic was badass. I got stuck at around lvl 30 and decided to do some research. From all the combinations Commando sounded like it could kick ass best. That is my oldest char, it went through dozens of respecs, currently Justice+Worldeater Fire Forcewave.

I don’t remember exactly what my first character was but the earliest memory that I have is when my HC PRM arcanist died to Amalgamation at lvl 38 or so. I remember thinking “man that boss is hard”. The next most memorable moment was being shotgunned from full health to death by Lucius meteors in Elite.

I avoided giving in to the game guide or forums for information on mechanics for a good few hundred hours, it made it more fun for me and I have the nostalgic memories of being a total noob :).

My first character was a Commando, starting from Soldier, but i went Flame Strike instead of Cadence because Cadence reminded me too much of the lackluster Calculated Strike from Titan Quest. This was during EA before Shaman was a thing.

I took BOTH flame strike mutators, because i wanted her to use both a rifle and sword+shield.

I don’t think I got any better at character building. My current character is a level 48 Purifier (didn’t pick up Inquisitor until level 45, and then only so I could drop the Gunslinger jacket. He still has two level 28 Pistols because they each have +1 to all Demolitionist Skills") with stacked Fire damage (Static and %), on gear AND devotions.

My leveling technique on all my characters is “Rush up the Mastery tree, putting one point in each skill to see what it does. Once I’ve maxed mastery, I invest in the skills I like.”

I also collect every Epic item and store it in my transfer stash, in the hopes that one day I’ll build a character that uses it for a little bit. I’m still trying to find the Guardsman’s Hammer so I can start leveling and adventuring on my level 22 Soldier with a full kit.

My first character was Soldier, of course. Went Cadence, played 2H for a while, but it was getting annoying because at the time 2H was super slow, then I went Nightblade, got dual wield and 2 1h weapons and boy it was a lot more fun. But then I went full WPS, and for some reason I wasn’t looking at itemization properly, and it went into a really weird full WPS full physical itemized build which wasn’t optimal, and character pretty much ended up failing pretty hard at Ultimate. Learned my lesson by now however, with a lot of revamps to trees and Blitz being so powerful, but yeah.

Blademaster here. Dual wield cadence. Didn’t know what debuffs were. Didn’t care about resists. Devotions didn’t exist. I think max level was 18, and the warden was the “final” boss. I remember beating the warden and then i had to teleport back to devils crossing to sell my stuff, because my inventory was full. I wanted to wait to open the chest till i got back. When i teleported back, the wardens chest had disappeared due to a bug. I guess no loot for me…

Mine was a warder, I started as shamam at first cuz 2h, lighting, summon, caster, healing, so I thought was a class with alot ways to build, and them I got soldier cuz the passives I thought was so good, alot defense and alot damage boost.

I didnt got any trouble playing with him, I didnt made mistakes with first character cuz I already played ALOT ARPG before this one, so I knew about that, my attributes points for example I just used when I was lvl 85 (max lvl at the time).

And I still play nowadays with him.

I have alot another characters, I have 6 characters lvl 100 full geared and anothers lvl 40~85.

Still, this warder its my fav one and 90% of the time I plays its running with that warder, totally badass.

The characters I have lvl 100 and full build are elementalist trapper, cabalist summmoner, purifier dw ranged, spellbinder mage caster, infiltrator dw melee and anothers 40~85.

I dunno which one to make now, deathknight, reaper, mage hunter, defiler, druid or spellbreaker.

my first character was a Forcewave/Sigil Witchblade back when the level cap was 25 and the Warden was the final boss

Hum…build 18 was went I jumped on the Grim Dawn bus, level 35 was cap back then. I was all about single mastery builds then and went with the tried and true sword and board soldier. It was everything that Diablo 3 was not. Since then yes I have had my rage quota of Grim Dawn and boredome quite. But with 1700 hours of gameplay one broken gtx 560ti I still l keep up with it. Today was the day when I upgraded my back up graphics card (gt 520) to the gtx 1050ti and am back to grim dawn. Game looks nice with all settings on very high or ultra compared to medium to low with the 560 and off or low to get 25fps with the gt 520.

First character was a SnB Chaos Cadence/Sigil Witchblade. Later moved over to 2-handed when I was fortunate enough to find an Obsidian Juggernaut.

Still have the guy parked at the beginning of Ultimate but have since lost interest in him coupled with being too lazy to finetune skill, devotion and attribute points :stuck_out_tongue:
