Fix the engine?

Can you guys fix this engine so my i5 6600k, 980ti machine can run this game at more then 30 fps when 5 enemies are on the screen? It’d love to play it more but I can’t stand how it runs.

Thanks.

Yeah this is an exaggeration of the highest degree, or you have some driver/ setting conflict you need to fix.

I wish it was. If I drop a bunch of settings to medium, game still drops to the 40’s when mobs appear. In certain areas of the map the game also stutters.

Some things that might help.

Turn lighting to low.

Turn off vsync and triple buffering in game, then enable them in nvidia control panel.

Monitor your CPU to see if it’s bottle necking.

Turn off unnecessary programs such as anti virus that might interfere.

Iirc GD doesn’t like to play well with OC’d GPU’s, so maybe that’s an issue?

I have i5 6500 and Radeon 480 and the only time i get slight FPS drop is when there are 30 mobs in cruicible with 4 man team.

Something is wrong with your PC.

Ok. I tried lighting to low as well as shadows. I’ve also turned off vsync and triple. Is it normal for the game to bounce up and down frame rate wise? It’s never solid. Just trying to get it smooth across the board. I have no trouble with Diablo 3 with all settings max, it’s just strange.

Yeah, it’s your PC, I have a 980M and pretty much never drop below 60 fps, all settings maxed, except lighting on high as I liked that look better.

Or you run a significantly higher resolution than I do, mine is 1980x1080

Apples to oranges. Is anything over clocked? I would start there. I run the game fine at 3440x1440 on a 980ti and 4770k

Crap. I’ve tinkered with this game so much. I am running it a 1440p, I believe I removed the overclock I had on my cpu, I will check when I get home. I also have a Dell monitor at 165hz.

Is it Gsync? You may need to make sure that’s set up correctly for it in your game profile with all these different hz monitors and Gsync these days. I suspect alot of people’s issues (with other games too) comes from not having the settings correct to account for their newfangled devices.

Just something to consider as I’ve seen others realize it was being caused by Vsync/Gsync issues and once they accounted for it, like magic, everything ran much better.

And yes, checking the overclock is always a vital first step to take in troubleshooting any game.

Cool. It could be. I have a g sync monitor it’s the S2417DG. I hope that is it.

Try shutting down Windows Update in task manager. It tends to chew up cpu. Will post more when i reach a real pc.

1440p is obviously going to eat up a lot more FPS than 1080p, however 30 FPS is still really low for a 980ti at 1440p.

Out of curiosity, are you playing fullscreen or windowed? GSYNC can get weird in windowed even if you enable “Gsync in fullscreen and windowed mode” in your Nvidia control panel.

If all else fails, disable Gsync and then start up Grim Dawn and see if you still have the FPS issues. It probably won’t change anything, but it’s worth it to see if Gsync is causing problems. Once you know that much, you can go from there.

I tried with it on and off. I had it running in over 160 fps yesterday. As soon as I hit mobs down to 40. One of the Crowley’s gang camps it was running in slow motion.

This game runs on a single core correct? Well there is the problem. It’s at 100% running this game. That’s the engine.

Incorrect.

Well if it isn’t, then why is it running that way? Well, I just got into Path of Exile, that runs great. Thanks for all the help everyone.

If you are on Win10 and use Windows Defender, try switching to something else. I was having big issues with performance and it turned out it was WD even if I had excluded my whole Steam folder.

clean up the junk on your pc so it runs smooth again. only places my fps tanks to 20-25 is in valbury. everything else is 60-70fps. unless i don’t clean my pc for a few weeks. then everything and all games and programs perform worse.
