[FoA 1.3.0.3] Beginner build guide Cold Caster Evoker with the Awakened Eastern Set

yes, maybe I was careless

Hey, a question. So you wrote ā€œWithout the helmet build will suffer greatlyā€ - I must have missed it in the guide or your texts: so what’s the deal with the helmet? why is it so important?
Is it because of +3 Winds? Or ā€œ20% target reduced damageā€ ?
Because if it’s just for that, I believe the new Asterkarn legendary helmets are better, no ?

You do not have the legendary stuff when you start fresh as a beginner right?

You kinda miss the mark here, this is a build guide how to make a build from scratch if you are new to the game have no gear etc.

regarding the final omega-super-duper version, I have not given it thaaat much thought yet, if I wanna go basically full TSS or full Winds of Asterkarn etc

Would you say it’s fun to play? Was considering that skill combo for lack of evoker options - but I’ll also try WoA on zealot, definitely.

It is pretty fun, but I have strong feedback to give devs regarding how slow the radius of winds of asterkarn builds up compared to say flames of ignaffar and drain essence. Especially since the set is designed to channel and quickly reduce cooldown to TSS… so fun but sometimes a bit clunky, hope fully it will become smoother after a patch or so.

Zealot hmm maybe, I just think arcanist brings so much for channelers, energy cost reduction, panic skill etc

It is not Albrecht aether ray fun, but that is one of my fav skills in the game so :stuck_out_tongue:

It also looks very fun when you play it, entire screen covered in ice shards, pretty bonkers (working on videos…)

Cold skills and faceplanting into an enemy is an iconic duo.

For zealot I specifically wanted to play with Judgement some more, didn’t use that skill nearly enough. So for evoker I was contemplating either something like this, with Eastern set, or just go setless for once in my life and gather a chaos raven-AAR char.

I have somewhat planned a cold judgment/cold vindictive flame ā€œauradinā€ shieldbreaker :stuck_out_tongue: just need to make those thermite mines and guardian ā€œblue/icyā€

Is there any specific quest or content you’d suggest to get awakened blueprints to drop? I’ve probably played a good 20 hours of fangs by now and I’ve gotten several of the new set blueprints, but 0 awakened ones…it feels like I’m missing something.

You are missing something… find the ā€œsecretā€ Noktukari faction… and then you’ll see

Cool guide with super detailed milestone. Well done!

Ah ok. I have found him but not gotten revered with him yet. Thank you!

Does he have a thing called ā€œRuned orbā€ at his place? It is a thing you can interact with

(one does not find awakened blueprints, they are already ā€œlearnedā€ by the runed orb, you just have to find where this device is and bring the required mats for the awakening)

OH. Wow I didn’t realize that was something I could interact with XD Thank you!

yeah I first clicked on it by accident haha

How do you think this build will fare in HC or against Celestials?

HC is a matter of skill too, but you have both null and mirror which is good and you have TSS so you can kill mobs in range. But for HC it is not a ā€œno brainer stand and tank soldier guyā€. I did not die until shriek nulled me in ult SR 26 so, but I am pretty good player (3/5 rating).

Celestials should be doable, the final mega spec at least - but you have to play good of course

If you are new to the game and wanna start HC right away - I would try something else first…

If I were to play HC with this kind of build, I would focus more on armor (another dev tree) to get it up to 3000 and maybe even using the new shield that gives phys res to star pact (but then skill tree will be thin since needing to get 50 on both masteries) to get like 20% phys res, and getting more points into the berserker passives down the left side (hp regen, and dmg abs%). Maybe

I kinda always play HC in ARPGs mainly because I derive the most fun out of the thrill of nearly dying in battle. Port Valbury as an HC Purifier was definitely the sweatiest dungeon I have experienced thus far (relatively new compared to you guys)

If I end up dying, I tend to study up how I died and what I should do to fix it in the next playthrough/character.

My first ARPG was Diablo 2, which also was a case of me running a ton of HC builds and dying a ton, but I had fun either way.

yeah it is a rush to play HC! I stopped HC in GD when they introduced the sunder debuff mechanic, it kinda killed it for me.

If you wanna check out beginner/budget builds that someone has done in HC I suggest you give a look at the ones made by @RSnoomak

thank you so much for making this, and for your video on damage conversion. this kind of post is super helpful to people who are trying to learn the game and go a step deeper in understand the mechanics, etc. so it really means a lot.

you mentioned AAR here…couldn’t you go the AAR route with raven and convert the aether damage to cold or lightning or similar?

Thanks but it was someone else’s video

One can do that, but possibly not on a ā€œfresh startā€, because that conversion is on a Conduit amulet. Sure, one can probably squeeze in loads of global conversion items, but then you will have low skill ranks in AAR and yeah… also I have made tons of AAR chars in the past.

I think the ā€œbestā€ way, and also a fun way (at least from what I have seen others do), is to do AAR as fresh start by going evoker/raven with chaos dmg because you have AAR transmuter in arcanist tree then you just need fire → chaos conversion (bloodsworn chest + the new MI shoulder + Yurri mace) AND you can get multiple beams! Here is a rough sketch I made a while back Evoker, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.0) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
