Hello!
I have a big small issue with ARPGs - I don’t like walking around hunting black spots of fog of war on the map to reveal them, but I have to do that for reasons unknown.
Could you please make revealed fog of war the same for all difficulties?! I don’t like when I start the next difficulty and I have my map incognito again.
Or at least add purchasable area maps which unveil fog of war in relative maps at least.
Thank you!
You can see … your whole FOV.
And you can see the whole map.
What FOW do you mean?
The map, when you type M.
Aaah! Right.
Well, IMO it keeps things interesting and I know it by heart by now anyway.
How does this keep things interesting? You already unveiled the map on the first difficulty, leave it like that in the second.
And if you know it by heart why not leave it open, so I didn’t just spent time clearing fog of war on the map on each difficulty.
Just my opinion on it. I don’t see it that crucial as in a strategy game for example.
Yes I know, I just suggest this feature. It’s not crucial, so why not leave the map revealed for the consecutive difficulties.
This feature is important to me, I just can’t stand dark spots on my map and I don’t like wasting time walking around unveiling the map. And starting it from 0 each difficulty is killing me.
you can just copy over your previous FoW file from a cleared map
if you want a total clear one including potential nooks you haven’t been in you can also “hack” that in
How do I do that? Also I don’t want this to be a hack, but I like it to be an in-game feature. As I mentioned earlier make area maps purchasable, also tie some gameplay mechanics to it, like if you bought a map you get increased gold drop from the area or something and you can buy rare maps with better qualities.
But hacks and mending with game files kills it for me.
the game is fully modable, so it’s basically a vanilla feature
but yes you just straight up copy the FoW from your previous difficulty folder into the new, or use the save editor/console commands full cleared FoW, so that is meddling with save files one way or the other but is then the option currently available to you
You don’t like hunting back darkened spots. Okay, I don’t share it but i can understand it.
Assuming that letting those spots unexplored it’s of the table, I’ve an idea: with merit stones you can start directly in elite or ultimate.
You'll save up to 2/3 of the exploration, at the cost of a harder start
I’ve explored the map extremely thoroughly and then started copying it between characters. Game is so much better that way. I used to have a problem with the black spots too, and was compulsively exploring the map on every character. So glad to be done with that.
And yeah, map reveal should be an official feature.
Can you help me out and document what should I do to share a map between character or difficulties?
And this only affects the map and nothing else, correct?
Also, would that work for TQ?
just copy the map.fow file from one of your completed char folders’ level folders
there is a folder for elite/normal/ultimate, you just pick whichever you have the map uncovered, take that’s fow file, and plop in/overwrite in the other world folder’s difficulty folder
it’s in your save folder where your chars is/steam or documents folder depending on if you have cloud on or off in ingame settings
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\folder of numbers\219990\remote\save\main_CharName\levels_world001.map\Normal
or
C:\Users\user name\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save\main_CharName\levels_world001.map\Normal
^if you have cloud off ingame and there is no folder in the doc folder it likely means Onedrive hijacked it and it will be in your Onedrive subpath folder
Thank you!
That’s OCD and if if forces you to do things you don’t like then it’s best to get rid of it I’m not against your proposition though.
I have a similar quirk with ARPG’s and I sympathise, but in my case I prefer to have a blacked out map at the start. Because I need to kill and loot everything per difficulty level. 100% clear. Not in one session obviously, but having the blacked out map - not just fog of war - helps me limit the nagging question if I missed anything in a zone. And oh, does it nag me. I even pick up and sell every yellow item (at least not in rogue dungeons). Loot filters help with this quirk once my character is embarrassingly rich. What I can’t see doesn’t bother me?
Being able to purchase maps from a vendor is an intriguing suggestion. Like, what if it added a mutator and increased loot drop/quality if you purchase the deluxe version of the map? This has a side benefit of more rewarding options for grinding rep for some factions.
At least you can copy forward that map reveal file.
And I have the loot filtering to reduce my pick-up-and-sell quirk.
