For the love of god, please remove the tracking nullifying projectile from Grava’Thul in shattered realm. He keeps on sending multiple of those orbs that disappear and eventually one-shot you. Rubble don’t block it as it passes through everything in the tiny arena. Just delete this op skill already.
Nah, it makes the game more interesting. Hide behind some column / wall. Or kill him fast enough. Or run in circles. Alternatively I can make a hardmod for you that prevents Grava from using this skill. There have been multiple threads on this already btw.
running away is such a high skill ceiling move to master
they are big and bright and pink and don’t vanish while able to deal dmg (if they vanish it means they are gone and are safe for several seconds until the next cooldown)
They do vanish. And when they do, I turn around to attack and before Grava approaches me, 75% of my mana vanishes along with all of my buffs and I just die in a second.
I see no point in running away to an invisible projectile that keeps on following through pillars and buildings. I have to have a window in which I can attack Grava, 'cause otherwise it is pointless to fight him if you constantly have to run.
video or it never happened
being arrogant af because in all my fights i’ve never seen it happen, if they’re gone they’re gone
*i have seen them clip through certain obstacles, but never become invisible and still deal dmg/effect
yea no, vast majority of obstacles break them on impact there are some slight specific buggy ones like one of the pile of rocks in the lava room, but otherwise 99% of stuff is solid
*i like to use this vid/clip of Eard’s for "grava balls"demonstration because obv Eard shows it smooth (and it was a scene that stood out so i remembered and bookmarked it )
running is literally the simple way to deal with it, 0 skill involved, other than maybe spotting the cast/“roar” animation
Complaining about the disrupt charge, I’d maybe understand. Complaining about the demented amount of fumble, oh absolutely. Complaning about how mean this bastard is to 3 out of 4 elemental builds, oh yeah. But complaining about the slow moving, heavily telegraphed, easily avoidable projectiles? Nopes. You can take this guy on as the first boss you fight in any boss room and there’s always a way to just have the projectiles munch on a wall with minimum manoeuvering space. If you remove the projectiles you might as well remove Grava cause then he’s just a less interesting version of Kaisan.
I died to this, believe it or not.
Not really in my experience.
- Run in circles
- Grava chases
- ???
- Grava dies
Homing vs avoidable…
I was doing this several times and I just died. No wall, no pillar helped me since it passed through them. And I left Grava as the last boss to have more space to move around.
The projectile has a duration of 4.4 seconds and moves at a snail pace (8 units per second which is sluggish compared to most), you just need to stay away from it for that amount of time. If you’re pulling bosses 1 by 1 you should be able to stay in one corner and outrun it fairly easily. The trick is to recognizing his animation to know when to start running.
reason we are calling it avoidable, “despite it being homing”, is you can literally outrun it
the sole gimmick is spotting it/the pre-cast animation, and running away, that’s it
breaking it on impact early on an obstacle is just flashy show off stuff to get back in the fight earlier but isn’t even necessary
the skill has a minimum cooldown of 15secs according to GT, so if Asylum says it’s active for 4.4 secs it gives you a good 10 secs to fight Grava before the next round of, running away from things
That’s the for the campaign, it’s even higher than that in SR.
Yes, avoidable. You see the animation, you run two screens away, they time out. Or even better, you see the animation while you’ve already positioned yourself next to a pillar or rubble, you use your movement skill to jump to the other side, projectiles faceplant into a wall, you continue fighting. There’s no shame in getting squished by Grava, but it’s because he hits like a truck and drops your DPS to nothing, it’s not because of the projectiles. I do my fair share of getting bitchslapped by Grava in SR and I think in the last 1k hours of play I’ve died to Grava projectiles twice. Once cause I didn’t even know he was on the screen with how much shit was going on around me, and once cause I jumped to kite his projectiles, character model clipped through the world and game teleported me back to where I jumped from, which was where the projectiles were.
I have no other advice for you other than: you’re doing it wrong. If other experienced players are telling you this shit’s avoidable, it’s avoidable, you just need to learn the execution. Tell you what, I’ll be doing some SR runs today on a character I’m currently finishing up, I’ll record it and post if I fight Grava.
Nope. /10char

He keeps on sending multiple of those orbs that disappear and eventually one-shot you.
Just imagined enraged Grava spamming high-velocity null-orbs nonstop . Pretty scary. Should be implemented in GD2 for true hardcore gamers.
On the topic theme - orbs are slow enough to outrun them, it is not necessary to have obstacles around.

video or it never happened
I myself don’t have a vid of that but I had that happen to me a few times in SR as well.
Dodged Gravas null-balls, they disappeared, went back in only to find myself being null’d & dead at his feet a few sec later.
Doesn’t happen that often but it happens, I can assure you that Gnuffi.
I have had terrain destroy the projectiles and other times the projectiles went right through. It’s extremely inconsistent.
It’s always a glimpse of happiness when players complain about something being too hard in GD. It should happen more often.
There is enough space to run away from Gravathul’s balls or make them hit column or something and disappear (yes, they DO disappear when hitting a major obstacle). And boss itself has a long and clear animation of casting that spell. It’s a boss that actualy require some skill from player, and not just brainless facetanking it, like the the most. Do you really want all bosses to be a brainless facetankable loot pinjatas?
I’d rather whine about Arcane heroes - a lot of them are kinda small and easy to miss in a large crowd, and their cast animations are pretty short and subtle (and shared with their other skills). Some builds hit the bucket before they can reapply their buffs.
Or Mad Queen - it literally wrecks most projectile builds, and kiting it with non-DoT projectile build is a nightmare, takes minutes of your time and poses a serious risk of death. After facing it few times in SR75 with my ranged Savagery Vindicator, i made some tweaks to be able to facetank it and save my time and nerves. But that’s actually THE strongest ranged build in the game, and most projectile builds dont have means to perform such a feat.
