Forgotten gods ideological issue

I’m not trying to roleplay “nice” guy but a chatacter that thinks that any tool or power is acceptable for the glory and domination of mankind. Humans ond only humans must rule over Cairn. Not gods or any supernatural beings but humankind alone.

As i said alliance with necromancers was fine, sl long they aren’t worship any gods. Uroboruuk was originally a man gained his immortality throught necromancy. Ancient Arcovians did ‘some bad and unpleasant things’ to him and got what they deserved. It’s normal. Witches in Ugdenbog Coven was useful for character and didn’t try to convince him to their cult. Resistance of Malmouth just wanted to get their city back and live in peace. No one of them ever tries to make character worship their gods. No one except cultists of Three.

Agree in a part. You always can be like “Whatever” for their cult stuff. You choose which witch-gods you would like to ally.

You might play as a Shaman or an occultist who find it okay but I guess what many people would like to see here is the option to be the Inquisitor.
Yeah they found it strange you be there but you need to have that option to show how much you don’t like their little cults and normally you would lead the kill-team so its better talk each other carefully now. And yeas you are in their camp but at this point of the story you already defeated the Chotonians and Atherials so you can count as a big deal for them. I would expect more hostility and carefulness in the conversation with them in certain professions your character hold

Nah, as someone playing a Purifier, I’m really, really irritated that I can’t give the Witch God cults the same treatment I give their breathren of the Ravager’s cult of Barrowholm, the Necromancer’s of Death’s Vigil, the Bloodsworn of Ch’thon, the fallen Chosen of Korvaak, and those who conspire with the Aetherials. All six/eight cults are cut from the same malevolent cloth threatening the world, and should all be purged in Ulzuin’s cleansing flame and Empyrions’ re-ignited light.

My Paladin and Oathbreakers of Empyrion and Menhir feel similar, as does my Druid of Mogdrogen and Ultos.

The Witch God cults are the sorts of people we’re trying to protect the world AGAINST.

Mmmmh, Ulzuin has gone mad after/during his betrayal, I wouldn’t pray to him atm, he seems a bit unstable.

As for Empyrion, the Lightbringer, most powerful of the Primordial…well, he kinda betrayed Ch’thon and cut him into pieces to gain the power of creation (check the Spear of Heaven constellation description), so yeah, he may be the Light, but he’s certainly not good.

Can’t say anything bad about Menhir, though, Menhir…is solid.

Good news then. Forgotten gods is giving you exactly what you seek. There were already some hints about this in base game, but in FG…
… you’ll find out for certain that the witch gods were originally humans. Priestess of Korvaak, some foreign sorcerer and (I think) an “ascendant” - first a mortal man, cursed/ascended by Korvaak to serve as guardian of his main temple (notes I have are not very clear on Dreeg’s history). They seized an opportunity when Korvaak was weak, overpowered him together, and stole his rule of eldritch realm for themselves. Glory to mankind - what could be more glorious than ascending to god?

With such resource as eldritch realm available for the taking, even if you were to somehow clear all the present gods, someone will try to replace them sooner or later. Usually exactly the type of person you DON’T want to have that power. And that’s a big IF, because…
Have a talk with him near the ancient grove, or back at his shrine after game restart. We only destroyed one of his manifestations and he acknowledges it as interesting fight, nothing more. If he really perceived player as threat, he could probably just wish us out of existence and go about his business.

Same is probably true for Korvaak. At least Mogdrogen implies that you did not defeat him - you had to have heavy help from the three. The mechanism is not clear, but maybe he can exists in multiple planes of existence and they kept him busy there, or just draining his power in general… If killing a god was as easy as bashing his head, the three could have done it long ago. All they managed was to keep him imprisoned and weakened. Player couldn’t even kill Loghorrean alone when you think about it, just banish him. And that was no god.

As others have said, if existence of gods and inability to just genocide them is your issue with FG, you are looking at wrong game. Void, aether and eldritch realm are going to clash and Cairn will be in the middle of it all. Maybe they’ll annihilate each other in the end, but that is far in the future.

… Have you not looked at your skill descriptions? Even without your Devotions, your skills make it very clear many of your own abilities are powered by divine assistance.

Shaman? Your power is sponsored by Mogdrogen, Ultos, and/or The Wendigo
Soldier? You are empowered by Oleron and Menhir.
Occultist? Your power is drawn from Dreeg, Solael, and/or Bysmael.
Demolitionist? Ulzuin works through you.
Oathkeeper? Either Dreeg, or Menhir and what’s left of Empyrion.
Arcanist? Not a direct sponsorship, but you’re using knowledge granted by the Aetherials, and drawing power from their non-world.

Only the Inquisitor and Necromancer seem to be agnostic.

Nightblade here, know any god for me?

Yet another proud agnostic/atheist, drawing from the deadly arts of Amarasta, Nidalla, and Belgothian.

Nemesis, demigod of the shadows and lord of the night hunt according to the Relic.

By the Nightblade description the blade magic that they employ is a secret so any lore when it comes to that is unknown as it probably should be.

Perhaps next expansion we’ll have a time traveling trio consisting of Amarasta, Belgothian and Nidalla who come to take out the Witch Gods who probably started the whole Grim Dawn in the first place due to their actions in FG. They won’t be gods or whatnot but just 3 of the most deadly assassins in all of Cairn.

oooooo we got some devout imperial follower of lectitio divinitatus here!!!

let me explain to you… in grim dawn… you are forced to play the taken… a
(psyker?) mutant freed from the possession of an aetherial spirit.

so… by imperial definition… you are basically a walking heretical mutant
who’ve been released from a chaos possession. Any faithful imperial citizen will
go spess muhreen on you!

you just want to survive… but your only option to survive is to
work/ally/devote yourself with any factions/beings/deities!:undecided:

did you look at the devotion system? yes… you don’t have a choice to not
use devotion points in gd… you’ll eventually have to force the taken to
worship some constellation thingamajingies to get the stats you need just to
breathe in hostile territories…:undecided:

you think you’re some kind of holy paladin warrior that has no need for
otherworldly power and only relies on human strength itself? lulz!
you eventually have to lifesteal through adcth!
every holy warrior in gd is a partial vampire/ghoul/wendigo!

ok… thats enough warhammer stuff… if you want to play grim dawn
as the holiest of holy human that’s not touched by mutation/magic/evil…
then you have to choose skills with secular descriptions…:undecided:
and don’t use any devotion points…
and only use white items!!!(yellow and above rarity type items are
‘magical’)

have fun playing gd that way! good luck finishing the game on normal!

oh! and in gd main story you’ll eventually be forced to ally with vigil (a nono
for faithful imperial) or the chosen (sounds of korvaak laughing in the
distance
).

just follow inquisitor creed’s (not the warhammer 40k creed) example! he’s an
inquisitor who hunts heretics and mutants his whole life… but when grim dawn
happens… he’s forced to work with those sworn enemies of the
inquisitor.:undecided:

just like roboute guilliman and yvraine…

fun gd similarities with wh 40k:
-Bysmiel = Tzeentch pokemon trainers
-Dreeg = Nurgle farseers & navigators
-Solael = Khorne vampires
-Korvaak = Malal with grey knights and templars
-Yugol = Tyranids with black holes

Well, get on with it then. Be sure to add Chthon to your list of celestial beings to destroy. Don’t forget to snap a selfie as you fade away in all your glory.

crate… give the taken some internal monologue options when they’re about
to pledge loyalty to some factions/constellations/deities. choices like this:

  1. I join this faction because:
    -I just need their assistance
    -I believe in their cause
    -I don’t know
  2. I devote myself to this constellation because:
    -I just need its power
-I’m a believer in this constellation
    -I don’t know
  3. I pledge my loyalty to this deity/demi-god because:
    -I just need their assistance
    -I worship this being
    -I don’t know

I think I know the main Character by now, and the answer would always be: “I don’t know”, as our Taken seems to be incredibly dull as he has only 2-3 voicelines. “I don’t have enough energy”, “My Inventory is full”, “I can’t carry anymore”

Question-Why you side with cannibals serving Bloodthirsty Celestial?
Answer-cuz I need Ravager eye augment.

The direction in Grim Dawn has always been about making difficult alliances for the greater good.

I don’t consider the player aligning themselves to a Cult to be literally pledging their life to one of the Witch Gods. Think of it as an alliance of convenience until a greater threat is resolved. Similar really to how the three cults operate even with each other.

As the Emissary puts it…
“Speak to the masters of the cults of Bysmiel, Dreeg and Solael. Learn of their methods and align yourself to one cause.”

"While we may be allies in this endeavor, the cults do not always…see eye to eye on all matters.

It is best for the sake of peace that you assist only one of the cults. Do not be concerned though, the others will not see you as a foe for your decision. Not here.

Besides, you may not find all the methods we employ…agreeable. Speak to the cult leaders, learn of their ways, and make your choice."

iirc the Black Legion is also looked down upon for their actions before the Grim Dawn yet their services are leveraged to secure Barrowholm, take down the Loghorrean, and siege Malmouth.

All this is bullshit
As i said Before. The only god i need is a sexy lovegoddess, not old ugly mogdrogen. Where is the avatar of her? :furious: l want a Venus au naturel.
A bit like Aphrodite in God of War

And crate has given the official seal of grimness… grim dawn will stay grim!

based on this statement, crate has designed the taken to be an opportunistic
survivalist in their nature… an individual that will do anything within
reasonable limits… becoming an almost insane cannibalistic wendigo vampire
witchquisitor are apparently within that limits too:rolleyes:) to help mankind
survive.

so op won’t get what they wish in gd:cry:. zantai’s words: “Think of it as an
alliance of convenience until a greater threat is resolved” means the greater
threat will never be resolved (at least until gd 2 maybe:p).

as of right now, you can only get your wish for love goddess by staring at the
female constellations. or byscilla. thats it.
