Forgotten gods ideological issue

Why i must choose one of eldritch gods in new addon “forgotten gods”? Why i cannot just slaughter any eldritch culrists on my way as Cairn’s savior? I honestly think that mankind don’t need any ‘gods’ or real gods and any follower of any cult just need to be killed for the glory of tne mankind.
I can’t play the new dlc (despite i bought this dlc) because i can’t get thorough the gate without being forced to choose one of eldritch ‘gods’.

Then, IMHO, you are playing the wrong game.

imo… if crate had more manpower and time… the forgotten gods dlc might allow you to complete its content with the black legion coalition backing you up from the start to finish, without having to join one of the witches coven.

keep in mind that grim dawn’s lore are designed to be dark.
and to survive with a decent build, you’ll have to at least choose some devotion star that is plain dark… (such as ghoulish hunger which provides an almost mandatory adcth to many builds) even if you want to be the holiest empyrion/menhir paladin. paladins in grim dawn are eventually forced to use vampire skillz (adcth lifesteal to survive).

just join the covenant that fits your build and focus on the gameplay aspects.
if it might ease your worries… bysmiel is probably the most ‘humane’ witch faction. because she is focused on intrigue and cunning (has some bewitched thrall though)
while dreeg is a mix between mad seers and disease carrier:rolleyes:.
and you can’t separate solael from human sacrifice and brutality (solael almost feels like the bloodsworn:eek:).

yep… they’re all bad:p. pick your poison and just focus on the action.

I also got offended by this, I am a monotheist I only believe one god :frowning:

monotheist too here. but i just use suspension of belief when i played games that implies my chars/factions worshipped some fictional deities in game.

(in grim dawn you have to use devotion points to make your builds… so all chars in gd that use devotion means they are all polytheists)

its just a game in the end, for harmless amusement.

though if the game in question involve real life religion (such as civilization series and crusader kings 2), i have to be respectful to all religion involved there and play with more discretion.

Where are the sexy love goddess?

I believe in Aphrodite. And i want lots of prostitute priestesses. I feel offended by the lack of this.

What if someone is afraid of ghosts or do not believe in magic :open_mouth: How can they play any ARPG?

Send me a PM and I can give you some of that

What?
Surely this is a troll

Time to get creative with the headcanon then.

Pretend that some evil occult magic or other is mind controlling you into doing all this shit you don’t want to. Idk. :stuck_out_tongue:

well it depends on themselves… whether they want to suspend their disbelief when playing ghostly magic game or not.

that sounds quite fitting with the taken. the taken is possesed at gd intro anyway. so this is plausible.
also, one of the dreeg seer in fg base tells the taken that there is a shadow following the taken everywhere they go (its probably us lulz)

I remember first time I completed the quest to cleanse Mogdrogen shrine, I laught my ass off.I think Crate should give the “Mogdrogen” treatment to more important npcs, like opportunity to talk shit and fight when you have disagreements.

You know, after playing Divinity: Original Sin 2, I find myself wishing that every RPG had an option to kill everything. So I can perfectly understand the sentiment.

As for the witch gods, as someone who mains pets, I might have already sold my soul to Bysmiel.

You know sometimes games are used to blow off some steam, killing all NPC certainly does that:D.Like DeusEx or Mass Effect, where you can choose your personality and methods. But I think there should be line dividing games from real life believe and philosophy.Joining cult, following the plot does not make your cultist.Just play for fun and don’t get serious about in game decisions;)

lulz. if gd has more resources and time, perhaps in fg we can just challenge all the three witch coven’s champions or something, so that they begrudgingly give us and black legion some ceasefire agreement and token assistance…

crate has given us the option to be allies/enemies with vigil/chosen/barrowholm… so i quite agree with the op that some players will be disappointed that we’re forced to ally with 1 witch coven in fg.

but most players will shrug and admit that they join the covens because they just want the gears… riggs will approve (riggs is the poster arabian sword & board in fg’s loading screen)

Maybe I missed something, but joining one of the cults doesn’t give you anything tangible. No gear, no skill bonuses (you get bonus faction reputation for the chosen cult, but that in no way prevents getting gear from others, just slightly later). Only few quests. Bysmiel’s quests are very tame. I have yet to try Solael or Dreeg, but Solael’s reeks of sacrifice being involved, just from reading the notes around camp. No idea about Dreeg.

Play an opportunist. Join cult as means to an end, you don’t have to worship any of the three. Just like you join Order or Barrowholm.

You’ll dig up some very interesting lore about the three that would shake any true believer anyway. And don’t forget to talk to Mogdrogen after you are done.

Using them is fine, but pledging loyalty isn’t. I honestly think that humankind does not need any gods, they can clean world of Cairn of any cults or religion by their own power, surpass any gods or ‘gods’.

it doesn’t matter how ‘humane’ or cruel there ‘gods’ are, they just need to be destroyed. This Three, Mogdrogen, Empyrion or any supernatural beings must be annihilated for the glory of mankind. What humans need is strong Emperor who can do this purification of the world, i think.

Exactly. We helped him, took what we needed from him, then destroyed him for the great justice. This is fate awaiting all ‘god’ beings. None of them are needed in era of humans.

But i just do now want to join any of them. Why i can’t just kill thier followers, and then annihilate Korvaak and Empyrion? They all shall just disappear forever, they are not needed anymore.

As I mentioned before, you are playing the wrong game - or basically shouldn’t play this one.

The story of the game is as it is, your ideology is irrelevant - to the game. So either, play the game, or don’t.

Even if the devs take your idea and implement it, it will take a lot of time.

Honestly speaking, as a person that enjoys roleplaying above all else, and likes to play as the “nice guy” on games like this, I also didn’t like the idea of being forced to join the witch gods… For a game where you have a degree of choice to be good or evil in certain scenarios, the way the story progression of this expansion was handled was underwhelming, simply because you HAVE to align the witch gods, which are one of the “dark gods” of the grim dawn universe.

Oh! but you are working for them for a bigger cause… frankly speaking, I’ve been seeing this “it’s for the bigger cause!” nonsense being used ever since grim dawn vanilla.

-Making alliance with a group of necromancers? “It’s for the bigger cause!” (although in this case, you do have a choice)
-Joining a coven of witches? “It’s for the bigger cause!”
-Having to align yourself with one of the cults dedicated to a bunch of dark gods? “It’s for the bigger cause!”

Honestly, I’m getting tired of this nonsense being used each time a new expansion is released, so Crate really needs to improve their story writting in the future, be it for a possible new expansion or for a sequel, and ACTUALLY take roleplay into consideration, and not make our choices one-sided… let us have the option to choose to work with a “good” or an “evil” faction.
