TL;DR: I really like this forum’s community.
That’s it, you can go back to farming stuff for your next amazing build.
For real though.
I exclusively play PvE games, about 70% time in single player.
So I find joy in participating in communities to fill in the socialization gap. Mostly on reddit.
I only started doing this a few years ago, and what I immediately found out was that those communities are generally quite comfy, feeling like clubs of like-minded people.
My main ones over the years have been, in chronological order, Valheim → Satisfactory → Grim Dawn.
It also became apparent that out of all people playing particular game, only a small subset would actually go on and post / reply about the game on it’s sub. So that’s a selection of people who not only play the game, but care enough to go out and talk about it with strangers on the internet. I guess that’s the main contributing factor to these communities feeling the way they are (the fact that these games are not competitive also plays a huge role).
When I started playing GD in 2025 and found it has official forum my initial reaction was “no shit, forums in 2025, really? I bet nobody’s been there since 2011”, so I sticked to reddit for some time.
However as time went by I saw more and more references to the forum, and eventually ended up discovering that it’s quite alive, to my surprise.
So I started spending more and more time here.
To the point that sometimes I would close GD at 2am and “I’ll go read a couple topics before going to bed” only to find myself two hours later reading the entire thread of 100+ comments and having an immensely good time.
One of such cases was the “skeletons discussion” that branched off of one of the Maya’s build topics (I believe), that shit was hilarious to read. There was an argument between two obviously giga-qualified individuals who had opposite stands in the discussion. I read the entire thing in one go, didn’t understand half the stuff they were throwing at each other, saw the sun rising behind the window and with an ear-to-ear smile on my face went to bed before the next working day.
Another similar case was reading “strangest feedback” thread and a few dozen comments that accumulated there at the time.
And recently while thinking about it I realized one cool thing: only a small fraction of people playing (any given) game would go and post / reply on reddit, that’s why subs feel cozy.
This forum is like that squared
Because out of those who visits GD sub, only a small subset would actually go here.
So this place feels like a club of the most dedicated GD lovers (no shit lol).
There are some people that post here quite regularly, and it seems like anywhere I go I see the same couple dozen profile pics or so. I bet I could even name most if not all of you, but it’s not my personal hall of fame so I’ll spare that.
And every time I read a topic and comments it feels like a really warm and interesting read.
The discussions are (for the most part) very civil and thoughtful.
There are even a couple regulars whose posts / comments make me cringe every single time I read them, but I’m still happy they are here, making this place a little more diverse and fun that it would have been otherwise.
Oh and don’t even get me started on all the occasional meme builds getting posted in the comments out of nowhere just for lolz, never meant to mean anything. Well guess what, I have a small but growing collection of those in my bookmarks, and occasionally I even start leveling those. In HC for extra feelings.
All that to say, I’m really happy to be here.
Thank you all for making this place what it is <3
