FPS Stuttering since new patch

Hello,

I have over 300 hours in Grim and have never had performance issues. I hopped on yesterday 8/1, and have been having a really bad stuttering issue, usually when fighting a few mobs or effects on-screen, but it can also happen randomly. The game would hover around 300 fps, then drop to 140 or lower (felt much lower). The game is unplayable, especially when a lot of effects are on screen. See below for fixes I have tried to no avail.

  • Changed visual settings(I tried a mix of everything here, Vsync to all settings to low)
  • Capped FPS (I have a 360hz monitor, so I tried capping at lower FPS and still had wild dips)
  • Changed core affinities (From lowering to 8 cores to using odd-number cores)
  • Lowered audio hz (heard some people have had issues with the hz with audio devices)
  • Redownloaded the game
  • Downloaded new drivers
  • Tried different characters
  • Tried alternative Steam startup i.e. x86

MY SPECS
3440 x 1440 360hz Ultrawide
Intel Core I9 14900KF
RTX 4080 / 16GB
64GB DDR5 RAM
Installed on Gen 5 PCIE NVME M.2
Windows 11

If there is any other info that would help, please let me know. Thank you in advance!

Are you using an xbox gamepad? I am having similar issues and narrowed down the source (but not cause) to using gamepad instead of m+kb.

I am using M+KB, I don’t have any other external gamepad plugged in.

If lowering the settings doesn’t help, it’s probably not related to the CPU or GPU.

You can check for some weird background apps; even if they take 0 resources, it’s still possible to tank performance. Like, for example, an overlay from Discord or just some random apps unrelated to gaming. Also, don’t forget to add the game as an exception in the antivirus program, as it is possible to constantly scan game files and cause performance issues.
I hope you find a fix.

One thing I just found was that the cores are acting a bit strange. I looking at the resource monitor, a core will max out almost completely, become “parked” and switched to another when I get the frame stutter. This happens over and over between different cores.
