I was thinking about how a frost + pierce damage inquisitor build could look like.
The idea behind that kinda build was:
Two guns are awesome.
Holding enemies in place away from you with frost (Rune of Hagarrad) and
Icicles pierce throw enemies, so pierce damage as 2nd damage type.
With this in mind I came up with the following skill setup:
/w26v8xA2 I am not allowed to post links yet, so this endpart of grimtools has to be enough for now :undecided:
I have no endgame knowledge so if anyone has suggestions please let me know.
Soldier as 2nd mastery is basically just there for cadence, but this is not a must have 2nd mastery if you have a better option for the build I wanted to make.
Hey Twinhelix and welcome to the forums. You can post here to increase your post count to permit links.
Cold or pierce are natural choices with inquisitor, but in my experience you have to pick one or the other due to the mutually exclusive nature of the level 50 exclusive skills that inquisitor has. Aura of Conviction is great for pierce but not for elemental of any kind except DoT. Aura of Censure is great for elemental (and a lot of other reasons like damage reduction and skill disruption) but not at all for pierce.
This would be leaning more towards the cold side of cold/pierce, and in fact you should strive to reduce your piercing damage by converting it to cold damage with AlkamosRings and the appropriate gloves
Try building with nightblade instead of soldier to capitalize on night’s chill.
Inquisitor/Nightblade is a fun class combo. I agree the hagarradian enforcer are a fun pick for what you are looking for and perfect for an amarasta’s blade burst build if you want to go that route. From what I understand 2h weapons or dual pistols are the best way to go for it as far as efficiency for ABB and obviously lethal assault is baked into your damage dealer skill so that’s one less button to use (I like lazy builds)
I actually leveled a blademaster 2h cold ranged cadence and it was fun but I lost that character in a5 elite to a nemesis because I got cocky. I had less knowledge on building a character at the time. Best part of Grim Dawn is you can make just about anything work. Worst case scenario you hit the end of ultimate you might find that it doesn’t perform as well as some other class combos or gear setups doing the same thing.
Your description is great rpg. But it won’t happen. In GD freeze is a gimmick and ranged is melee that also works for a fraction of a second before enemies get to you. Freeze would be too powerful if it worked differently. Afaik the only way to effectively freeze enemies is Mageslayer set with an Arcanist skill. Outside that you won’t be freezing much beyond what dies in two hits anyway.
But what about the frostburn damage? Is it completely separated from cold damage, i.e. +10% cold damage does not increase frostburn damage unlinke elemental damage increases all three elemental types?
So how important would pierce damage then be? With devotions in mind, do I need to spend any points in pierce damage or would elemental damage be more beneficial?
Going into nightbalde, could I utilize Lethal Assault? Genrelly speaking I thought since I was going for some ranged attacks I would need an auto attack replacer.
And yes this was really helpfull, thank you very much
I roll with a lighting/cold 2hd ranged vindicator that’s a lot of fun myself. Hit’s like a truck
And yes ABB works with ranged, ive tested it before but not beyond level 10 because it wasn’t spammy enough for my taste. If there was something where i could lower the CD time down to nothing then i would’ve ran with it more but it is viable from what i know. Also if you have the points, try and grab blade barrier
So you are basically saying ranged characters would only work in multiplayer since you will always end up in melee range when it really counts. So it would be better to just focus on melee instead of range?
The key difference between ranged and melee is itemization I think. Enemies can close gaps or hit you from a range, so neither is safe from taking hits, and both have ways to hit targets that are not right next to you (blitz, shadow strike for example) so the main difference is what weapon do you equip and what constellations/procs/skills are therefore available to you.
I have an ABB cold inflitrator that uses two m hagarradian enforcers and I’m very happy with it. I’m not on my gaming pc, so I can’t upload a GT link but I’ll try to put it together from memory and edit this post with the link later.
Edit: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/1NXp3XWN It’s something like that, but I don’t remember the exact combo of affixes beyond incorruptible on the mark and stonehide on the boots. They don’t need to be double green.
Well, I guess these items work much better then what I found when looking for items, since you capped every resistance to 80%, while with my items non was capped ^^"
O, damn, I would love to try this build. In fact, I wanted this from the start when I knew too little about the game, not that I know all now, ofc. I am still new. But the idea of two guns and a lot buffs with more than one damage type IS AMAZING! Truth is I was afraid to try this build for my first char - seems too complicated so I just "abandoned " the two guns idea and just do my simple but fine Warder noob build
are there any “proofs” that this kinda build “works” in this thread? I just wondered why you replied that you wanna try it? I have not seen any convincing GT link in this thread, but I think we had a few interesting ones in a ranged cold build idea thread a few months ago, I know I did propose a cold damage savagery ranged build in that thread but I have no idea where that thread is now…
