Frustrated GOG Player: No Beta, No Crossplay

I was also sad that playtest builds weren’t available on GOG.

But I bought Grim Dawn on sale and I’ve gotten more value out of it than just about any other game, so for that reason I didn’t mind buying it again on Steam. But I totally get the frustration – not every one has thousands of hours in GD and enough disposable income to buy the same game twice. Then again, the set of players opting in to playtest builds probably has a lot of overlap with the set of 500+ hours players.

Do wish GOG was more of a first-class platform for more developers and publishers (DRM-free is great). Then again, Steam’s recent investments in making Linux a first-class gaming platform have me feeling like GOG vs Steam is less clear-cut (also wish Grim Dawn would officially support Linux!).

They had a change in management not too long ago. So, hopefully they can start making some moves that eases the pains of devs who wish to list their games on GOG. Getting rid of their stupid curation process would be a good start.

Add me to the count lads. I own Grim Dawn on both GOG and Steam. I prefer GOG because I like the idea of an offline installer for archival purposes.

Not sure how bad it is on GoG, but steam also has one when you first publish a game afaik. They check for example if you say it has controller support that you can actually play the game with controller and those kind of things (on steam).

It’s bad to the point that Crate doesn’t have Farthest Frontier on GOG.

I also read on a forum about the Legends of Amberland and Realms of Antiquity devs experiencing issues with getting their games listed. Their games did get approved but it wasn’t a smooth process, with both the rejection and the eventual approval not having any discernible reason.

FF not being on GoG was a Crate decision iirc

From what I understand it’s because the GD GoG sales were 2% of the total, so not worth the bother to support another store for them.

I hope it improves. I much prefer to buy a game instead of renting it :stuck_out_tongue:

I do remember reading something like that on these forums. Probably directly from Zantai, but don’t quote me on that. Been quite a while ago.

Although, Crate might still eventually put it there once it’s not getting constantly updated.
