It’s bad enough that we’ve already been waiting 3 years and there’s still no clarity on whether anything will happen this year, but I also feel extremely screwed over after buying the game from GOG… I can’t play the beta version and I can’t play directly with players on Steam… apparently no one cares about this and I’m some kind of minority, but it’s incredibly frustrating… I also don’t think it’s fair to have to buy the game a second time just to have it on Steam. Of course, there probably won’t be any development on this issue, but it’s really annoying.
you can crossplay with steam, been a thing for more than 5 years now
PTR is what it is, blame GoG’s pipeline i guess? - no clue why it is that way
Zantai has stated multiple times FoA remains on track for q2 release, with recent confirmation just like… 1-2? weeks ago that nothing had changed on that front yet to delay it
Crossplay is possible, but only if you use a program like RadminVPN.
The end of the beta test is nowhere in sight, version 1.3 isn’t out yet, so I’m skeptical about FoA being released in Q2.
you can crossplay without radmin, “it’s natively supported” for years Grim Dawn V1.1.0.0 Preview
sounds like a you thing then? - if you prefer a mindset thinking devs lie to you when they tell us something, then there’s not really much of anything to do ![]()
But then this issue comes up, and my internet provider doesn’t give me access to the router settings.
The public IP address reported by your router does not
match the public IP address externally visible to the
Internet. Usually, this is caused by attempting to host
a Grim Dawn Server from behind more than one
router. Please check your router configuration and
restart Grim Dawn.
yes, that would be a network issue “on your end” that the game then can’t handle the way it does peer2peer relying on upnp?, which is very unfortunate (and annoying - i got the same error when isp sent me new router), it doesn’t mean the GoG can’t crossplay with steam tho, but isp standards aren’t “universal standards”.
(atleast iirc someone else said it was usually because some stuff like UPnP wasn’t applied as adhered industry standard on routers/isp networks etc making us crack open stuff ourselves etc)
Feature or “api” wise whatever, the crossplay connection is there and available between GoG and steam
As Gnomish said, GOG and Steam crossplay has been available for years. Unfortunately, Grim Dawn’s mutliplayer is person to person (p2p), so we can only do so much to assist in connectivity.
If you do not have full access to your router settings, we can’t do anything about that because there isn’t a central server through which you are connecting to other players.
As for playtest access, I don’t see how this is an expectation, to be honest. The game’s alpha and beta were Steam only, and playtests have always been as well.
It makes no sense for us to run essentially two separate playtests and double the work of generating each build. When 96% of our audience is on Steam, that is where we are going to run them.
You’ll most likely have the same issue if you had the game on steam. This has nothing to do with crossplay.
As for when the new dlc/expansion comes out, you’ll just have to wait. Has nothing to do with gog either. It’s just them taking their time to make it good. Nothing to get frustrated about ![]()
There are some suggestions here you might want to try to get crossplay working.

Just curious. Is this an an official number, or just a random high number to get the point across?
It’s official if Zantai posted it.
They have stats of players for Steam and GoG and Xbox.
I would say most people get their games via Steam vs. GoG. I just happen to be of the latter. I tried Steam back in the day when Left 4 Dead was new. It was a pain just to start and play a game on their platform. Unless it has been revamped to be more player friendly, I have no idea why anyone would choose Steam.
I’ve never had this problem on Steam. You install the game on Steam, once installed, press play and game starts.
I have heard of some games having issues not being able to play on Steam, but that was an issue with the game.
I also have GoG and like their platform and it works well with their Galaxy client.
However, many people have posted here who didn’t us Galaxy and did manual installs of games and updates to the games and had problems. They end up uninstalling the game and reinstalling it.
I’ve had to uninstall and reinstall GD a few times and I was using the GoG Galaxy launcher. Sometimes the launcher goes offline and will not record game info on the cloud. Then when it goes back online, it reverts back to the last saved info via the cloud. I’ve lost lots of game time, items, and character progress because of that too. The last time I reinstalled it, I opted not to have any info saved on the cloud, only my hard drive. So, the only thing I lose when the Galaxy is offline is calculated hours played and the occasional achievement. I am okay with that.
I haven’t done anything on Steam (Valve if you will) for a really long time. So, maybe the UI is more player friendly now. /shrug. Then again, the only online game I play is D3 (I know that’s Blizzard) and that’s only every once in a while. Maybe, sometime in the future if Steam has a game I am interested in, I’ll give it another chance. For now, GD and D3 keep me plenty entertained, especially GD. So many class combos to play.
I want to play without complications and without having to do thousands of workarounds just to make it happen. On top of that, my internet provider refuses to give me full access to my router settings. And since 96% of players are on Steam and only 4% are on GOG, it’s clear that those on GOG aren’t considered important and can be neglected. That’s why I feel screwed over. At the very least, you could have stated somewhere before purchase that crossplay is only possible under many conditions.
Blame your Internet provider.
It has nothing to do with GoG or Steam or GD.
Yell into the void if you want.
Undoubtedly true. I am also part of the, apparently, 4%. And probably the even smaller % that buys games on GOG exclusively. “No GOG - no buy”, you could say, to paraphrase the popular Steam slogan.
Though I wasn’t expecting the split for GD to be this drastic. We are talking about a game that is only on 3 stores in total, Steam, GOG and XBOX.
I’d have expected 4% GOG share for games that release everywhere, not just 3 stores.
Yeah, using offline installers for games that receive regular updates can get a bit messy. They are great for archival purposes (the main reason to shop on GOG in the first place - 3rd party independence), but for “live” games that still get regularly updated, Galaxy is a lot less hassle. Though I can’t say I ever had any of the problems you describe (and I use Galaxy very often).
4% unite!

I’m not too surprised. Steam is just the default choice for many, both developers and gamers. It’s been there as a platform for longer and the client is better integrated with their store and advertisement etc. It’s overall an easier pick so to say. Just like most people game on windows and not on linux (kind of). GoG has made improvements to that with their galaxy client obviously, but it’s not at the same level. Where I work they won’t even consider GoG as an alternative, while they do consider Epic ![]()
Woot woot the 4% group! Besides 2 Blizzard games, all my games since Covid have been from GoG.
