Wondering about the progression road. I’m presently at level 67, still playing at normal mode. I got both DLC’s and have got as far as to Barrowholm. Should I keep playing Normal mode through both of the DLC’s and then switch to Elite, or go earlier ?? It is the first time I’m playing Grim Dawn so still learning how things working.
What is the normal route you more experience player take ?? Just so I have a better understanding of the game progression when I start my second character down the lines.
Thank you for taking the time reading this n00b question. I appreciate any and all replies !
That’s up to you really. Many people will just play Normal up to Barrowholm to get faction rep going then move on to Elite. Others will play all the way through.
Guess it really depends on whether or not you think your character can cope with Elite atm. You can always give it a try and if not, drop back to Normal and continue to play that.
If you finish the expansions on the first difficulty you will be overleveled at the beginning of the second one. To play efficiently you can switch to Elite now and play through the expansions for the first time there. Please note that AoM only unlocks after you beat the Loghorrean and FG after Warden Krieg - on each difficulty.
What I usually do is main game + both expansions in normal, then rush the base game in elite to access ultimate quickly for a more interesting difficulty and more loot. I do most side quests in normal and finish it around lv58 which isn’t overlevelled for elite. Note that I play SSF (solo self-found) and it’s pretty smooth, doing the expansions in normal makes the transition to elite smoother, and I don’t grind reputation until ultimate.
I recommend going through entire game on Normal/Veteran if it’s your first playthrough. For the sole purpose of getting familiar with monsters and quests.
I agree with @Res. This game is quite big so there are many areas to learn and many NPCs, Factions, and quests to familiarize yourself with. Take your time and get your bearings. You will be replaying this game A LOT, so you can always jump around and rush through later with the many other characters I am sure youll build. Learning where you need to go to do what now will also help those future builds progress faster.
Well, I just died against the end boss in the Tainted Wood when doing my second run in there. Guess I wait since it seems I still have things to learn.
That sounds like good advice, I’ll remember that for my second run. I think that’s why my level is bit high already, I been grinding the Faction Reputation already.
Am I guessing right that Solo Self-Found is when you do a play through without using any transfer armor from previous runs ?
Yeah, I think this is what I be doing, plus I’m starting to get a bit tired of hearing the gunshoots from my Commando when clearing mobs out !
Yup, I come to realize that when I passed 200 hours a week ago or so ! It’s good fun although I probably shouldn’t picked Commando since the shooting is starting to get a bit on my nerves. Most likely do as Res suggested and do it all on Normal and then try Elite and Ultimate on another character later on.
I did not know that, thought once unlocked it was for all levels. Thanks for mention that !
Thank you everyone for all the replies, much appreciated !!
I almost never skip any campaigns on normal since I feel like reputation is a bigger hassle than exp, so ideally I should do all the quests that boost reputation before venturing on Elite. But then again, level 67 just reaching Barrowholm is unprecendented for me, usually 65-70 is when I’m done with Normal/Veteran.
