lol, you probably know more about d4 than anyone here…
So, what? You working on the 2016 Troll of the Year awards? Cmon man, at least don’t be so transparent about it.
You won’t even make an honorable mention at this rate.

D3 didn’t do ANYTHING right for the most part. That online only feature you want? Players hate it, especially HC players because one lag spike and they die.
While server wide chat is nice, it would of course, require a server. To be honest, it is barely used in D3 these days.
Using an updated engine makes no sense, as the game was built on the bones of Titan Quest on purpose to have continuity and a built in fan base. Plus I’m assuming the price was right. One problem with most of your suggestions is that they are too pricey for anyone but a AAA studio, who would just muck things up anyhow. (I’m looking at you EA or Activision)
Like someone else pointed out, you seem to be fixating on online play. It is meant to be a single player game, which I have no issue with. One of D3s huge failings was that it tried to be the MMO of ARPGs with a bunch of online junk no true Diablo fan cared about. And worst of all, you can only have 4 players online at a time instead of 8 and there was no lobby. Blizz took nothing from D2 that players liked when they made D3.
yes, because if 90% of people stopped playing in disgust, 2M still playing means nothing.
You cannot simply compare sales numbers and ignore everything else like the hype, the cost of making the game, the brand, the cost of advertisement etc.
According to your logic McDonalds has the best food because it sells the most. See the flaw there ?
^Exactly!
Also, while I realize that Blizzard says they sold 18 million copies, they really didn’t. A lot of people got the game free for signing up for a years sub to WoW. Since I was going to do that anyhow, I got the game for free, actually costing Blizzard 50 bucks.
Also, 18 million people did NOT take the game home and play it. Sales figures are based on manufacturer selling to retailers, not retailers to customers AFAIK. Walk into any big box store and you will see dozens of copies of D3 laying around. There is a big chunk of that “18 million” laying around Best Buy, Fry’s Electronics and WalMart/Target.
In any case, if D3 was so great its future wouldn’t be so dim: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/20743104114
They are pulling devs from D3 to work on Legion which is something Blizzard does and how we got Jay Wilson to work on D3 (originally on the WoW team I believe).
Makes sense since Diablo 3 is pretty much staying as is since the rest of the team can just make new items / dungeons every now and then. Not sure if the game will get another full expansion since it may not be worth while.
Sure I can! Save for balancing stuff, there’s not a whole lot I’d change to the core game release.
As an aside, if GD2 has closed servers of any sort, even if also supporting LAN/offline play as well, I’ll probably not play it too much. I suspect I’ll not be alone. I’ll purchase it, sure, because I <3 Crate (can we get that on a t-shirt?), but I don’t care to interact with the ultra-competitive communities that develop around dedicated-online play. I don’t doubt that taking up dedicated servers would likely cater to a larger audience than would be lost - indeed, I’d argue in favor of it in support of Crate for an economic advancement. But I don’t want to play another such game when there’s already D3/PoE.
Anyways, responding to you original points:
I’d like to see the combat to be a bit better… I come from diablo 3 and I love the combat there especially the melee classes that have things like whirlwind etc… Just makes it more exciting.
I don’t really think you’re putting into words very well why you find D3’s combat more exciting. Whirlwind…isn’t all that different from what we’ve got in GD when you really think about it. Its an AoE damage thing. Yay. I mean, sure, it LOOKS captivating and exciting, but that’s really the entirety of D3 when you break it down. Big and flashy, fairly simplistic mechanically.
I would seriously consider porting this entire game to a more updated engine.
See you in another 5-6 years!
Not responding to respecs. We’ve had a number of threads on the subject already. I’m fairly OK with a limited number of full-respecs myself, but I’ve long been an advocate of no full-respecs whatsoever so understand the arguments people make against it.
This game could compete with diablo 3, it just needs some more money thrown at it.
I think this applies to everything ever. So go ahead, throw more money at it!
I would love to see the active quests kind of point me to an area I have to go.
No, please not. We’ve had this suggestion a lot and I am strongly opposed to it. Grim Dawn was built with the concept of no-hand-holding in mind. Having no quest markers on the map, or extremely limited ones, doesn’t force you to research where to go, but instead forces you to explore. Much better gameplay experience.
All I would change in this game is MOAAAAAAAARRRR… of everything.
More area’s, more masteries, more, mooooreeeee, MOAAAAAAAAARRRR!!!
