Been offline since Saturday as a result of massive power outages all across this area. It is extremely rare to see any snow in October here but over the weekend we got hit by a blizzard. Because the trees still have most of their leaves, the wet, heavy snow stuck to them, weighing the trees down and breaking a lot of limbs or, in some cases, downing whole trees. The power lines are mangled all over the place from the falling trees bits.
It is sort of like a zombie apocalypse now except where the zombies are living and seeking out electricity rather than brains. Entire towns are dark and traffic lights are out everywhere. We traveled north hoping to get out of the worst hit areas and find refuge at Barnes & Nobles or a Starbucks but they were all totally overrun. Finally I found an overlooked, unoccupied power outlet in a dark corner of Chipotle Grill and I’m currently writing from there on my laptop. Now I can finally get some work done for a bit and get my laptop batteries charged back up for tonight when darkness descends again and we must face the bitter cold of our unheated home.
Hopefully power will be restored soon. They say it could be a couple days though. I’ll let you know how it goes…
when I read the title, I had the same view, if medierra was getting beaten by something large powerful and very, very unfriendly, (but I guess snow could be that :D)
but yeah, the seasons have been really strange in the lat few years, in the UK we got hit hard by freezing temperatures last year and the year before, and very cold,
but anyway, hope you get electricity back soon, not good if you lose it at a critical time, (hope nothing major was lost either
Weird, you guys are getting blizzards up north, and down in florida we’ve been getting tornado warnings and constant rain storms… I’m getting tired of rain!!! I CAN’T FISH WHEN IT RAINS!
Well…I can. But not comfortably, not when it’s raining cats and dogs and thundering, rod in the air when I hear thunder doesn’t really sound like a good idea.
@Medierra - I got your leftover storm last night - left just about a foot of snow in my driveway for Halloween… had to spend about 40 minutes snowblowing the snow away just to get to work… but the power lines must be better here not a flicker in the power this time.
The funny thing though, about a week earlier we had the exact same thing happening, with the snow coming a little to early and a little too heavy and we also lost the power - although only for a couple hours in my neck of the woods…
So how much snow did you get in your area - I heard some parts of the northeastern US had 30 inches which is a huge amount of snowfall for any storm… let alone one in October!
Oh and @Asylum… this storm was the remnants of one of your storms (I think) from a little earlier in the week… Hurricane Rina.
We didn’t actually get that much snow, it was only about a foot or less, although, any snow is a lot for October. The problem was that it was wet heavy snow and the trees still have most of their leaves here. So the snow just clung to the leaves, weighing down and breaking branches. Then falling tree limbs took down power lines all over the place.
Fortunately, when I got home last night the power had been restored to our street. We got lucky as a lot of our town and many surrounding towns still have large sections without power.
Good to hear that they are resolving the issues that fast.
Now you can go back to making that awesome new gameplay video, right? RIGHT? (joke^^…BUT STILL!)
Good to hear the situation is improving. Just make sure to frequently save anything you might be working on, in case the power goes down again. Then again, if you’re on a notebook, that should be less of a problem.
So, anyhow, will Grim Dawn feature any snow covered areas? That’s always a nice contrast in atmosphere to the usual dark and brown-ish areas in this sort of game.
You could even add some monsters with a “Blizzard” spell.
Just make sure the spell is really slow and kind of disappointing.
