The top right of the screen says I have gold, but there is none in the vault. There is also none in any warehouses or elsewhere that I can find

Yeah it exist in another dimension.
20k top right, vault has 2k, trader another 40k (but those are not counted ever towards the global gold that is displayed top right).
It’s a bit wierd, but as long as i don’t lose any money…

Its in the trading post limbo storage, which is a little pocket of space that sits between the game world and the trading post screen. The Devs have said that a fix is on its way but for now you can rest assured knowing it is safely stored in an alternate, trade-related mirror universe.
