Okay, after some work with another user on steam forums, I’ve MASSIVELY reduced the noise and heat by placing power and clock limits on the GPU with MSI profile.

Our best guess is that for some reason, my GPU thinks it needs to boost to the absolute max to run this game, but in actual fact it doesn’t.

A 500 Mhz reduction in core clock + a 40 % Power limit (60% reduction) = the game runs great now without excessive heat.

The fans are basically silent now also which is nice.

So with 60% power reduction, and a core clock speed reduced by about 25%, we’re getting the same FPS, but VASTLY reduced thermal load on the GPU.

Unsure if this is helpful to t-shooting why it did this in the first place?

Well I’ve re-pasted and padded my GPU - All temps dropped quite a bit, and the max power draw went up from 280 or so to around 315w.

The fans are also much slower, so I’d say it’s a “success” in terms of my re-paste.

While that’s good… this game STILL absolutely tanks my GPU in terms of power, and having a power draw of 300w JUST for my GPU while playing this game is completely insane.

I’d really encourage the Devs to look into what’s happening as I can’t be the only one who’s having the GPU absolutely consumed on this game.

Does it still happen when you turn down all the graphics? Maybe it’s just trying to render as many frames as possible somehow.

I believe this game does not need to run at a high frame rate like action or shooting games. Disabling V-Sync and running at a lower frame rate can still provide a good gaming experience. I suggest adding a 30 FPS option in the frame rate settings to offer an additional choice for players with lower GPU performance(the currently lowest option is 60 FPS).

I appreciate you’re trying to help on this, however I’d suggest that expecting only 30 FPS on a top-down view builder game, with a 3080 isn’t correct.

I can play Battlefield, Fortnite, Anno, GTV 5 Enhanced and other game maxed out without any kind of performance issue @ 60 FPS 1440p.

There is a clear issue with what this game is doing in terms of the load it places on the GPU

Well I’m pretty much giving up at this point as I’ve got no further avenues of investigation to follow.

I’ve even gone as far as to completely wipe and reinstall windows with only steam, the game and nvidia drivers - no change.

To summarise my issues, the game MAXs out the GPU clock, pulls 300+ watts of power yet GPU utilisation is 40-50%, and it can’t keep a stable frame rate.

The dev here @Zantai & other YouTube videos have demonstrated same or lesser systems having MUCH better performance than me, while using considerably less power and clock speeds.

It’s a shame as I’ve really enjoyed this game, but the poor performance, stuttering and massive power draw just aren’t doing it for me :frowning:

I’m happy to work with the devs in any way they need if they want to revisit this.
