I’m not really sure what to put down when it comes to these kinds of threads. However, I will say this: I love Grim Dawn so much that it spurred me to make an account on the forums.
I normally play first person shooters but I’ve played a few ARPG’s in the past. My first was Diablo 2 but I never beat it because I made such a wonky build I would have never been able to beat the final boss. Heck, I was getting trounced in the act where you do fight Diablo. My second and third ARPG’s were Torchlight and Torchlight 2. I had an on again, off again thing with them. They were fun but they never really held my attention despite beating both of them. I wasn’t too keen on the pet system and the games felt short i length.
However, for some reason Grim Dawn really scratches that itch I’ve been seeking in my ARPG’s. I love the story, the gameplay is satisfying and deep, the amount of build diversity available is nuts, the ability to filter what loot drops you see and pick up is very nice, and despite the lack of procedural generation (save for the dungeons that feature it) the maps are a total blast to go through and explore.
I’m currently going through my third build/character. The first was to go through the story and get used to the game mechanics. The second was further refinement and attempting to learn the game mechanics. My third and current build is now coming together a lot better thanks to the help of the Grimtools Calculator.
This game is really a hidden gem and it surprised me how great it was. I wish it got more coverage and news than it does.
Anywho, that’s enough from me in terms of gushing about the game. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to take part in the community. I know I’ll have questions the further I progress in the game.
