Does anyone else notice this? I have to hard reset my pc when it crashes too, cannot do anything.:o
I’ve seen lots of posts like this, so you’re definitely not alone.
Can I ask, are you playing the Steam version of Grim Dawn? And are you using Windows 10?
The reason I ask, is because I’m playing the GOG version (and I’m using Windows 7) and I have not had a single crash. The game seems to be 100% rock solid stable for me touchwood.
That probably doesn’t help you much, but it looks like the Steam version of Grim Dawn is much more unstable than the GOG version.
As for Windows 10, quite frankly, I’m surprised that any games work with it at all.
So if you’re using Steam and Windows 10, then that might be the cause of your problems.
Yeah I am using Steam and Windows 10, guess I will just have to hope they sort the issue out because I’m not switching operating systems or buying the game again. Thanks for the reply
playing the game in windowed mode has stopped the exit crashing for me. There are some trade offs but its better than having to restart my comp multiple times a day
I use Windows 8.1 with the steam version and this happens to me too. About 50% of the time I am able to close the game with task manager, if not I have to restart. Crate knows about this, and I expect they are trying to fix it, so hopefully with the next patch we see something to address this.
Yea I keep seeing people with these posts and I’ve quit straight to desktop or thru the main menu more times than I can count without a single crash.
I’m leaning towards it being a simple C++ redistributable problem and think these people experiencing it should try a simple C++ purge/reinstall and see if that straightens it out.

Ditto.
For the record OP, I am on Windows 7 64bit, steam version. Game is on Windowed (borderless) mode. No crashes yet.
I had this problem and then it went away completely I think two days ago. Sadly I have no idea what changed to make it stop.
Same here man!
There might be a connection between this and the fps, might be that the people that have fps problems are the ones that are on steam and the ones that dont are on gog, but I have drops a little with other steam games, hhmmm could be that steam itself is the problem for fps drops.
I’m playing GD using Steam on Windows 10 without any problems or crashes whatsoever. Please spread your unfounded Windows hate somewhere else.
From what I’ve seen my bet remains video card drivers.
My bet remains on game code not recognizing video cards/reading drivers correctly.
Love the game.
Will not make excuses for it.

Hm…I crash a fair amount when I quit. I’m using Win 10 and Steam. If it is a video driver issue, then tabbing out first and just shutting the program down from the desktop should fix the issue.
win 10 + steam here too. i also crash a lot, sometimes when exiting but also in muliplayrt when some players leave the game im in. If i play whith the same guys farming fab for example i can play for hours whithout crashing while playing with other guys i crash every single time one of them leaves a game before me… this makes me think some setup or item will crash the game for othters when they leave the game.
very wierd…
also most often when i crash i cant alt tab and wheni ctrl alt del the screen goes black with only mousecursor visible.
^^ is in fullscreen mode. I started to play windowed mode without borders for that reason. windoed with border is bugged so you have to click slightly below what you intend of clicking on for the click to register… sorry bout bad layout on this post but i hold a beer in my other hand…
I have the exact same problem and when I try to ctrl alt delete I get that black screen and cursor.
Are you getting crashes in windowed mode?
I play with the steam version on Windows 10 64-bit in windowed mode and have only had 1 weird crash (right after launching the game), but otherwise not a single issue. I multi-task a lot with dual monitors and constantly click off of it to other windows (even in multiplayer) and haven’t had a problem.
