Just a friendly tip…I’d advise either adjusting the background or adding a backdrop to these elements. They are difficult to read.

Mmm thank you there was supposed to be a different background in there!
I am going to check it and see what to do with the background!

Grinding to the maximum level can get tiresome

  • hitting max level is not that hard in GD since monsters scale with you. You could have compared to other ARPGs here too. like “not as easy as in D3 but way easier than in PoE”. From scratch to max level in GD is like 40-50hours with your first char.

When you fail a build you need to start all over

  • Totally not true, every mastery combo has several viable builds. You can refund devotions points and skill points at spirit guide and refund with potions devotion points and attribute points.

Story gets repetive if you want to try all build

  • That is why you can give your future char(s) difficulty skip tokens, experience potions, lokarr set, faction mandates, and so on - to speed up the process by a factor of ~4

Hey,

Thanks for the tips!

Grinding to maximum level felt tiresome to me that is why i typed it.
I can change it that it varies per person.

for second one I meant for example if you have a dual class soldier+nightblade and you want a Occultist+necromanacer.

Indeed i shall add the experience potions, Lokarr set, Faction mandates.
Did not think of this since I dont use this myself

Hey i changed the background as you suggested thanks for the tips

Hello,

Thank you for the feedback. I have made changes to the post to include your tips.
I appreciate it

Just to offer some insight as Devils advocate regarding your statement about levelling- not trying to undermine what you wrote at all, just my honest experience with the game as a noob, who plays casual meme style builds, but is a hardcore fan of this game… there is a steep learning curve for many of the game mechanics. Especially if youre not a member of the forum, and dont have access to valuable resources such as your beginner guides, and the abundance of awesome assistance the community provides here.

For at least my first 1000 game hours i didnt know about these forums and was basically trying to figure everything out on my own. I learned a lot but lets just say that no way in hell did it take 40 to 50 hours to hit level 100 with my first character.

My first character didnt make it past 71. Second didnt make it past 81. Third didnt make it past 90. I couldnt figure out how to make them function properly, and still didnt know what i was doing. I plateaued with them at those points and leveling became an impossible uphill battle due to poor build design. I kept dying and losing all my XP.

I finally decided to make a character that would not die, built around huge HP pool and HP Regen, so at least i could survive long enough to level somehow. That was my 4th character, first to hit 100.

So total game time, getting my first level 100 character, i have to take into account the experience of going through all the trial and error of my first 3 failures, in addition to the time elapsed getting that first character to 100.

So to be fair that makes it, for me (a nooby hardcore fan, who played first 1000 hours at least not knowing about the forums) a total of;

At least 215 hours invested learning from mistakes, prior to even starting my first build that was capable of making it to 100.

Leveling is certainly easier in GD than in PoE, though. But still, its only fair, if new players are the target group being evaluated to make this judgement of 40-50 hours to hit 100 with FIRST character, that we are paying attention to those who are not exceptional gamers such as myself, because it took me longer, it could very well take someone else longer too, and if they’re reading they should be able to make it happen in 40-50 hours, they may get the wrong impression.

The build that finally made it to 100 (after learning about everything) also took at least 72 hours for me to hit 100. New player, self found gear, no reputation with malmouth for XP pots, and no Lokarrs. Yes its fast leveling with THOSE things, but many new players wont have them because were talking about first characters right?

To be fair my first 4 characters were all started before AoM released. That 4th character was the first to hit 100, and did so after AoM had released. its at that time that i understood the factions and benefits of vendors and their augments and factions gear and all that stuff.

Without a lot of time invested, average players arent going to fully comprehend everything this game has to offer within 40 - 50 hours (which can directly impact wether or not they are able to hit level 100 within 40-50 hours). I know I wasnt able to, but i could just be really slow (very possible!). The story would have been different had i been aware of both an active community and such informative resources here on the forums (@malawiglenn beginner guides, etc).

@supersven1234. I would namedrop the forums as an extremely fun and valuable resource for new players to not only enhance their experience with the game but also meet other players passionate about the game. With this resource, leveling your first build to 100 in 40-50 hours is very possible, but without it, that may not be the case. Id be sure to make that distinction in your review.

Will put in the post to join the grim dawn forums!

Busy letting people know about my new website so I will make time for it in a short bit!

@Knife what I meant was that if you know basically what you are doing, it takes 40-50h with first char, first “real” char. Getting to max level should be hard IMO - but in the review, it was phrased as some kind of “grind”. You also need to have the proper knowledge and build too of course. Grind can mean many things, and for me “grind” means something you do that is basically trivial but time consuming.

Thank you, I know new players will appreciate understanding how involved the forums are. Particularly around the time of updates, as the Developers are very hands-on with the community, so a new player should understand that if theyre involved here on the forums (and discord, may want to mention that too), they can share their opinions, which have a long standing history of being closely monitored and lots of times acted upon by the Devs. Almost like voting- if theyre active here, and are respectful and follow the rules, their voice matters

Sure no problem
If you want to win a game you can enter my giveaway on the forum dont forget that!

I gotcha. My hang-up wasnt on the terminology there (grind), just on the phrasing of first character combined with 40-50 hours to hit level 100 in the same sentence. I figured that was what you meant, just thought it could use some clarification before the review is finalized. Dont want other slow pokes like me to think theyre doing something wrong.

But I agree with you as well, grind DOES make it sound kind of boring without unpacking the statement to describe the beautiful journey of build development.

haha. I already own it. Thanks though!

after about 7k hours in Diablo 2, I still dont have a char in single player at max level  Just to put some perspective.

Be sure to check out next week then unless you already own Project warlock as well!

I will phrase Grind differently to a more friendly word since you are correct Grim Dawn is about the journey not the leveling.
