Turns out Fire Strike does a shitload of damage if all of it is Chaos. Synergizes well with Riftstone for mobility.
That’s a really clever idea and I want to try it now.
BOoC is an awesome item, my Chaos Quick Jacks Pyromancer is now my personal No.1 caster with it. It’s hard to achieve good AS with an off-hand, therefore I didn’t bother with FS. But I reckon FS can be very powerful after the conversion, and SoC also benefits from it.
what benefits does it have over standard lightning quick jacks?
With 7 jacks, I’m procing Ulzuin’s Pyroclasm every sec, Flame Torrent (bound to QS, every 0.4 sec) and Eldritch Fire now deal full Chaos damage. By focusing on Vitality and Chaos, I can leech enough to facetank Fabius (not with his Blade Barrier up) with SoC and % WD procs.
Chaos and Vitality, like Ceno said before, have the best resist reduction payloads in this game. I currently use CoF, Fang of Ch’thon, Eldritch Fire, Solael’s Flame, Essence of Ch’thon and Black Star of Deceit. I tested with Dummy, its dps is much higher than most of my characters, sorry I don’t have an exact time.
Edit: It’s VERY vulnerable against reflect and projectile reflection, I once burned all my energy under 1 sec against some shield of Valor, and killed myself against Fabius while he BBed.

that’s really cool though, i always dismissed blood orb mainly due to the fact that curse of frailty doesn’t have a chaos resistance reduction component to it (like the first four resistance reduction methods you listed together add up to 40% compared to 36% from vulnerability alone, and black star hits elemental resist as well), not to mention the fact that most of the +skill gear you’d wear would boost the wrong damage type.
but being able to focus on an intrinsically chaos-based skill while also buffing an erstwhile elemental skill is really interesting, especially due to the preponderance of gear that boosts both chaos and vitality damage

It isn’t really. It’s -% Max Chaos Resist (also -% Vitality Resist). Makes Chaos Damage viable against Harbingers when coupled with other resist reduction.

Make sure to craft a glove with “of Dark Intent”, it really helps. Also, you may want to max Consecrated Blade (transmuter of Solael’s Witchfire), and put on a Riftstone. You need as much as % Physical converted to Chaos as possible, so your QS or even Meteor Shower’s physical part can turn into Chaos.
I really wonder how useful the -10% maximum chaos resistance is on Solael’s Flame. Seems like a really weird stat. I mean isn’t it just a worse version of -n% resistance because it only effects their maximum resistance threshold and not the resistance itself? For it to even do anything the enemy would have to be hitting the resistance cap in the first place.
I think it depends on the interaction with other resist reduction, which I’m not entirely sure about. If it applies after them, then it’s basically redundant. If it applies before, then it is essentially just -10% Chaos Resist for immune enemies (and irrelevant otherwise) EXCEPT for the fact that it would make multiplicative resist reduction less effectual.
So yeah, it’s definitely not as ‘useful’ a stat, but on its own and without any other reductions, it has its uses.
I’d rather have it as “-n%”, I used Solael’s Flame mainly for its Vitality resist reduction.
I’m not sure about the order of applying “-n% max resist”, but I don’t think it helps either way, for Harbingers die with or without it…
It’s not meant to be -% Max (supposed to be standard resist reduction, which will be addressed). I’m not sure that even works on monsters as they do not have a cap.

The order doesn’t matter. They effect completely different things. Lowering maximum resistance doesn’t make the excess resistance go away, so -n% resistance will have the same effectiveness regardless of lowering the maximum.
But like Zantai says, enemies don’t have a resistance cap anyway, so it does nothing. Doesn’t even effect multiplicative resistance reduction because of it.
For some reason I would expect -n% max to be a great tool against immune mobs.
Since immunity usually means ~500% resistance… probably wouldn’t be. Enemies don’t even have a resistance cap to reduce in the first place :undecided:

It was the only source of -n% target resistance available to them. Unless it’s a prelude to making Viper,'s constellation C’Thon augment, etc. working on spells, boooooooooooooooooo.
What’s even more annoying is that this is even a nerf to Vitality/Chaos casters, because this reduces the amount of life steal they get against bosses.
