So sometimes when I get upset at grim dawn because I find something annoying, or tedious, or gimmicky, I ask myself rhetorically: “Does Crate even play their own game?”
You guys do. You really do. You’re addressing a lot of my biggest gripes with this game with these patches. I’ll probably still ask myself that when I get upset at the game, but it’s because I love this game.
They are obviously gonna be tuned for the Crucible, but the core skills of Kuba and Grava sound like a pain in the ass in the Crucible nonetheless. Specially Grava nullification projectile, the last thing you want is to be nullified in the middle of a bunch of mobs and it’s kind of difficult to pay attention to what he’s doing while fighting other enemies.
I don’t have Crucible (don’t care for horde survival modes) but i saw jajaja video he posted today and either i’m missing something or Moosilauke starts in his second phase right off the bat in the Crucible, completely skipping his first stage. Maybe Kuba will not split in the Crucible but have his health upped as compensation? Just a guess.
I may be reading this wrong, but is the change to casting behavior simply a concession to make the game work on consoles? For example, when I cast Sigil of Consumption, I want it to land exactly where my mouse cursor is. Now it will simply be cast in a certain direction? Is the distance random?
This is one issue why I never understood ARPGs with controllers. How do you cast spells that require (or benefit from) precision?
I still don’t understand why it had to change other than to work better on controllers, which I’m not even going to qualify. Did people not know to just press shift if they wanted to stand still and cast? I honestly don’t get it.
The way I understand it you no longer will move towards the point if it’s further away than max cast range. Instead you’ll cast it at the direction of the point at max range. If you cast it at the point that’s closer than max range there shoudn’t be any difference between old vs new.
You’re unlikely to notice the difference with SoC, because the way SoC build plays you’d want to place it close to you and kite enemies along it.
I’m eager to try the new mechanics, but for now not sure which character would benefit from the change the most.
But why would you do that in the first place? Wouldn’t you just move your cursor closer to you and then cast again and kill the monster? I am thoroughly confused.
Edit: I mean I have never in my 1000 hours of playtime had a problem with this. I don’t understand how it is a problem.
A lot of the times i want to cast Callidor Tempest with shift casting and take advantage of the area effect. But the problem is that CT won’t cast if your cursor is just slightly off the area of effect, making it very annoying.
Now you can cast it at a stand still with the cursor anywhere on the screen. This issue also was present with Bone Harvest, where it wouldn’t cast if the cursor was just slightly off the range of the skill.
