Grim Misadventure #129: Ashen Forecast

You have to spend time cycling through targets? So you get some form of precision at the expense of speed.

Looks good. Didn’t expect a Misadventure tbh :stuck_out_tongue:

Btw, Mogdrogen giving us a quest?
Why the fuck doesn’t he do it himself?
And this better be rewarding considering it’s a quest from one of the two ascendants in the game

Not quite, I’m not going into any more detail, but just wait and see, it’s remarkably easy with a controller.

But why would you do that in the first place?

Edit: Oh ok. I just tested it. This is only a problem if you put that skill on R or LMB. So why not use it on literally any other button from 1-0 up to and including any other extra mouse buttons you have? This is such a non issue that does not need to be changed at all.

Ok I will approach with an open mind. It was horrible in D3 and that’s certainly affecting my skepticism.

I’m a keyboard/mouse user of 30+ years and prefer mouse for accuracy (I’m crap at aiming with a controller to be honest :D) and I still find it remarkably easy, smooth and pleasant playing GD with such an alien arpg control device

take advantage of the area effect

This right here.

Are you afraid to meet him again? After you crushed his avatar the other time, his heart will be extremely heavy when you reunite.

With controller you need to be more mindful about/with your positioning with skills of this nature. Naturally you can’t expect the same level of precision and control that you receive from the mouse so I don’t quite understand why you’re hard up on this issue.

Not everything in this style of arpg translates perfectly to controller and you have to make do. At any rate, the controller improvements are pure gold so far and the game is much more enjoyable with a controller as a result (most especially in regards to the non-combat interactions ie. inventory etc.).

Well, as far as I’m concerned I can’t even load into the game without getting less than 60FPS with the new renderer (without seriously cranking down my video settings) whereas the old one did it just fine (with everything maxed, not to mention that even the main menu gets less than 60FPS with the new one) I’m not sure I’d call it an obvious improvement…

I never use nova skills like that on L or RMB hence my confusion.

Ugh, that sounds awful. I want to cast A Thing where my cursor is, not where my character is currently located, 100% of the time. This is just gonna force me to guess where the fuck I need to stand to do that and is going to involve a lot more fucking around with positioning, which means a lot less time actually using abilities. And what about shit like Blitz and Shadow Strike, which are “move to the enemy you are currently aiming at and hit them” abilities? Am I just gonna faff about swinging at nothing? How is this going to work with ranged weapon characters, are they just gonna shoot in a direction and if you’re not close enough to actually hit them then you can just get fucked? Is everyone going to have to have a (mouse) button bound to “move here” now?

This really sounds incredibly ill-conceived. I can’t imagine a time when I want to cast something next to where I am that doesn’t involve putting my fucking cursor next to me. If I wanted a console game, I’d buy a game on a console!

So just carefully hover your finger over the shift key instead of holding it down when you’re clicking on your target…

It still casts the skill where your cursor is, it just makes being able to cast skills with the cursor out of their area effect. Like Callidor Tempest and Bone Harvest.

How will this new casting thing work on LMB and RMB spells? I right now have battlemage with Callidor’s Tempest on LMB, will i just stand in place and cast CT?

No, it will still cast as before. This just affect shift casting, where some skills won’t cast if your cursor is just out of range. Now it will cast in shift casting regardless of where the cursor is but you are still aiming with the cursor where it will go.

It also removes the char moving forward to cast some skills but not others when not holding shift

But Zantai talks specifically about character moving to max distance from the spell range and then casting it. If you hold down Shift, your character wouldn’t be doing that.

So, can anyone say what will happen in the following scenario, after this casting change: I want to cast Sigil of Consumption on a target enemy, but that enemy is out of range. Previously, my character would walk a bit and then cast it, when he got in the range. What will happen now? Will he cast it at max range from his current position, thus missing the enemy? Or will he still walk and then cast it on the enemy?

I mean that’s basically all I’m getting at. I just don’t want the game to be affected in order to allow for controller support. As long as it isn’t then I won’t have any issue.

Without shift casting, it will run up to the minimum range possible and then cast it under the enemy. With shift casting, it will cast at the maximum range possible, if your cursor is out of the maximum possible range.
