Grim Misadventure #17: Mini-map Update

No need to look so smug up there

People love to read the first post and then quickly slap on their outrageous post of anger and righteous fury while neglecting to look for the answers that are in the second post lol.

Working under fever hallucinations with a drugged judgment…

Stop whining, stop those med, sit yourself in a cold tub and go forward making GrimDawn!

Or take two days off with a lot of chicken soup and acetaminophen.

Although if you have a lot of coughing and sneezing, go see the sound guys, we need more ambient sounds for the villagers.

I know this post is more than a little late…but better late than never, I guess…

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I will take a health-bar over a health-orb any day of the week.
And am glad that the health bars are staying.
health-orbs annoy the heck out of me for some reason.

ah cmon guys, there is a reason why the top ARPG developers use globes instead of bars. Firstly yes it will take up more space, but its necessary since this is one of the most important things to keep your eye on in the game, and also if you place it on the sides it doesnt get in the way of anything.

Torchlight and Diablo have proven that this method works well and just because its not dead centre on the screen doesnt mean that its difficult to keep an eye on. Also when everything is cramped into one place (because you think its easier to see it there) it just makes it kind of messy.

Instead of recreating the HUD just photoshop some globes on it and get rid of the bars, send us the pics, and we can have a vote here on the forums :stuck_out_tongue:

Why do you keep talking about globes against bars when Zantai has already said that at this point they prefer to deal with other things, so alpha will come out asap. He also said that we all should give the hud a chance at this point. So lets just do that.

Besides, i am sure that moders will add globes and change the hub with mods.

Well tbh i think its important to get your hub looking right. I dont mind if its before or after alpha as long as it is put up for proper consideration and perhaps if enough people voice there opinion on the matter it would be changed for the better in the future without having to rely on some amateur modder doing the work for them.

Ugh get well soon. The big day is getting closer and closer.

I agree with you for that matter. After all this misadventure is a result of exactly that! But at this point the debate is kind of mute, since alpha is around the corner and the devs have said that there will be no more changes.

Wouldn’t be better to get back to this debate after the alpha is out, the HUD is tested and all the useful opinions won’t get “lost” in this thread?

Ah sweet ignorance. Plenty of posts previous to this one already have stated that:

1: It would take more time to add in globes.
2: Globes doesn’t mean SUCCESS (look at D3 lolz).
3: Their will be modding in which you can put in your precious globes.
4: Not everyone likes globes (I like squiggles bwahahahaha).
5: Change is inevitable.

So yea learn to adapt and if you can’t, know that eventually someone (perhaps yourself even) will create a mod to change the bars into globes.

how about a compromise ?

we just get rid of health and mana indicators all together

no globes, no bars, nothing

hardcore !

Nothing - yeah!

Don’t we like the videos best, which medierra played without any HUD distracting him from the action? :stuck_out_tongue:

It took him more than one try though.

Nothing sounds good.

The less health you have the more blood is gushing out of your character and eventually you start gasping and crawling followed by death. While crawling your character leaves a trail of blood and gore behind… how grim would that be?

The less energy you have… well you obviously can’t cast your spells so that’s the only indicator you have. Make it the guessing part of the game for that extra spark of intensity and smashing the keyboard hoping you can do something.

Possibly the grimmest and best suggestion I read so far. Congrats

Alpha!? GOOD LORD! could imagine what you would consider a beta or or going gold.

Grim it would be but it will also be inconsistent with elemental or poison damage.

Main indicator of near death would be the crawling around part. Elemental and poison damage would merely be another indicator that you are losing health.

Crawling around in a bloody gory trail while being on fire (I think your character screaming in pain would work here as well) and a poisonous gas cloud enveloping you merely means a more surety of your death.

Have a look at the State of the game address thread that has been stickied to the development update subforum.

Only the first act appears to be playable/complete.

Then again the act can be done speed-run style in 2 to 3 hours, and fully cleared out in 6 to 8.

That is allot of Alpha compared to D3.

Thanks for the update guys. Those shots are really looking awesome.

Thanks for listening about the mini-map ideas. It just looks right this way.

I agreed when someone said the current HUD looks a bit “lop-sided”. I like the symmetry of the globes, and everything to be balanced out to the left and right of the screen.

Anyways, it isn’t going to affect the gameplay much so no big deal I’d say. Just preferences.
