Grim Misadventure #17: Mini-map Update

Thanks for clarifying, Zantai. I must have missed that. Though I can understand where the “lopsided” argument comes from, I really like it. It’s different and seems to fit the setting, while still being easy on the eyes. Will there be some form of UI scaling? I would prefer the UI, as shown in the screenshots, to be a tad smaller. Not a hard thing to do with mod support, so nothing to worry about.

I actually really like this HUD. Also the mini-map and it’s location looks awesome. Keep up the great work, I’m very excited to play the Alpha!

So I was not the only one that thought having the update on Monday was weird. Yea, Crate might be doing this intentionally.

Edit: Yes, even this update was on a Monday for preparation to the next Monday after this upcoming Monday.

attention folks, the update is cancelled and so is the game, we have decided to cancel GD until farther notice, we are sorry for this inconvenience and we understand how anxious you are all with news of the alpha release and the game, but we have real lives to lead, so as of now, all development on the game ceases as of now

now that would be a great April fools update message wouldn’t it?:D:p

Doesn’t seem something that Arthur Bruno would allow. It can catch bad press.
I can see them releasing the Alpha on April 1st - but the catch is, the game will load with the infamous Diablo III server down error. Would be epic!

I am amazed! Another great update and another customer satisfaction, you know, you guys are the best studio since the old days? I am so happy seeing your work after all the let downs from other companies. Thank you!

The UI is really growing on me each time I see it. It has some magic in it, and it feels just right this way.

The quest log, and its content especially, looks interesting! =)

I also like the look of the two new monsters!!

I am very impressed and eager to play alpha soon! =)

Looks good and just a note on the health bars v. globes I have to agree with your reasoning for the bars. I would hope you take it a step further and include any pet/totem etc. health information as bars right next to the health bars so I don’t have to look all the way to the upper left corner to get that information.

Weird but I was going to make the same comment. It isn’t so much that i prefer circles to lines but having the globes on the side seem to work better (ala titan quest). I find having the lines force me to look down instead of up in the middle of the screen. Hum. Then I’m just looking at screen shots so maybe it works better in actual play still I miss the big blue and red globes of yester-year.

Will this be the alpha announcement !?!

I have no strong opinion about the bars/globes debate. If bars are simpler/easier to do, then bars be it.

It’s all personal preference anyways. People are most comfortable with what they are currently used to - and people are used to whatever the game they played last/most did.

Except for the chat-window maybe. Because of our reading orientation being from left to right, the chat-window might inherently be comfortable on the left side… but no such reasons exist for the minimap or health bars/orbs.

I also don’t think whether it’s bars or orbs has much gameplay impact. You might be able to more accurately gauge bars, and you might be able to better notice changes to the orbs in the corners of your eyes - but in any case you end up taking a regular glance at your health bar/orb/whatever every other second. The only important thing is, that the health indicator is clearly readable - as in good contrast, and one can quickly assess where 100% is.

About the mini-map… having the mini-map on a different position than what you are used to is annoying at first, but unless you outright reject any other position and block the learning effort, or have some sort of adaption/learning disability, you can very quickly and easily retrain to the new position. So I really don’t see the problem with that either.

Um, Titan Quest had lines, not globes.

I personally prefer globes since they are easier to look at while focusing on the action imo.

But since this is alpha, i’d rather have you guys focus on the more important things.

Now back to waiting :undecided:

I’m going to add to this inane argument and simply say this:

Swirls beat globes and bars any day.

Or how about “The Skyscrapers of Health and Energy”?

Or make Health and Energy some sort of mini game on the side which you have to play every so often otherwise YOU DIE!!!

Or make them the Ice Cream on a Cone so that they melt away.

Or make them into snowmen so that they also melt away.

Or make them into happy smiley faces that turn into sad smiley faces and then dead smiley faces.

Or how about this: Simply spell out “Health” and “Energy” and the less letters you have on them the less amount you have (you’ll have to guess on how much of each you have when it comes to actual numbers).

Or make them into Health and Energy caterpillars which march around on your screen and deal bonus damage to any enemies they trample.

Seriously people… please let’s just wait for the alpha… get used to how it will look like… and then enjoy the game.

Thanks.

I liked inquisitors UI.

Simple n got the point acrtoss.

at least to me.

“The spiritual successor of Titan Quest! Have all the good stuff from TQIT plus better features you always dreamt of!”

Thanks a lot Crate for embarking on this awesome journey to deliver what we all always hope for since 2007! Since Dec 2009, it’s over three great years already. Keep your pace until the finish line and we all shall see the greatness of hardwork and cold sweat ;). And I really hope the quest will be epic and we believe it shall be!!

I’m always feel excited deep inside lately. You know what I mean

Word of Appreciation.

Ack; I have no clue where I saw globes; maybe divine divinity ?

I wonder how translucent bars on the side would work? Maybe there could be sort of a click and draw interface where each player could move the hud elements to the position on the screen they prefer and then draw them out to their favorite shape - hum oh well i guess that would be a bit of a distraction from the rest of the game :frowning:

All this globe talk. Please crate keep it the way you have with the bars. I much prefer that and honestly, I want crate to use their own ideas not reuse old globe ideas. thats diablo stuff. Just making globes is gonna cause press to go another D-clone rather than titan quest sequel! Grim dawn should have its own unique style and bars to me worked well. So please no globes… people want it. they can mod it.

Hmm, an interesting idea… What if we allowed people to do this outside the game so that it wasn’t as distracting? The question though is, what would we call this killer new feature? Maybe… transforming? modifying?.. Wait, wait - I’ve got it: modding!

:stuck_out_tongue:

EvilMedierra is so proud of you right now.

Considered switching accounts for that but I was too fevered and drugged up to muster the motivation.
