Amazing! Well Done! I’m very ready to stop the break and play the GD playthrough again and then keep on build creating
Though there seems to be an order of class names; I hope it will be like this;
Soldier - Berserker = Thane or Reaver, both fitting acording to the meaning. Reaver means like a barbarian who takes booty after a war and Thane is like a warrior who rewarded land after a war by his king. Dreadnaught is also very fitting.
Demo - Berserker = Mystic.
Occultist - Berserker = Zealot.
Nightblade - Berserker = Veilwalker.
Arcanist - Berserker = Evoker.
Shaman - Berserker = Primalist.
Inquisitor - Berserker = Runekeeper. (This one could be more creative like Doomster or Doomsdayer since the Inquisitors are some kind of judges. Since Berserkers, Runes and Ravens are part of the norse mythology, ‘‘Forseti’’ is an another option. Runeraver is also better than keeper because Berserkers aren’t keepers.
Necro - Berserker = Dreadnaught. Apparently it means ‘‘The strongest of it’s kind.’’ But have you think about ‘‘Draugr’’?
Oathkeeper - Berserker = Thane. But not satisfying. I think it should be about blood and feuds. Avenger might be a thing though there is a set but you get the idea.
Love the look of the wereraven, really hope the forms will scale appropriately. Aside from that concern, I do think that the wereraven could use just slightly more muscle and roundedness/shape to the limbs at least so they aren’t so stick-like.
not like bird feet/talons has much of any “muscle” ? (i’m also assuming they went for similar structure on the arms)
unless the roundness is related to “bulk”/muscle mass, then perhaps it’s because of the 2d nature of the image, and it might appear appropriately shapely ingame/3d modelled ?
Honestly as a fan of D2 Druid where one of my absolute favorite Skills Hurricane was, plus D3 also had a Sorc Rune where it made a spell similiar to this one which i also blasted with, (and obv. could point out some others) i’m really happy to see this skill. I love this AoE Cold/Lightning Spells
The rest also looks pretty cool. As someone which will rock the class with shaman in combination the werewolf with the lighting looks sick.
I can see why this decision is made potentially, because if you look at the genre as a whole (and i think that goes for other stuff as well), while you also have people itching for new unique stuff, you also have people itching for tradition. Online it oftens comes off people b’tching in this genre about always the same classes for every entry of a series or even new ip, but than get extremly hyped if Necromancer get implemented, or that you can build a paladin hammerdin-like skill or anything like that. Heck, we could start the argument why implementing a shapeshifting class in the first place instead of something entirely new or unique or atleast less popular in the ARPG genre.
So i imagine it’s a bit of an tough decision because at one hand you want to give something entirely fresh or unique, or more inline with the franchise at the other hand you also want to please or draw in people with a traditional taste. Like if this are the two total transformation i’d expect some people coming into the forums when the expansion drop and asking “where is the traditional werebear” and stuff."
I honestly 've to say, despite me not being that into transformation in ARPG’s, that this is kinda the best approach give one traditional transform (werewolf) and a unique new one (wereraven), and both sides get something.
Or the even way more simple answer, someone at the team just love werewolf-transformation.
I didn’t realize that one of the transformations we were going to get is a JOJO character. Wereraven with falling icicles (alongside TSS from Arcanist side) is going to be absolutely wild!
Thats a very interesting and good point which you made up. I see your point. Some ppl enjoy tradition and others new features.
But I have to disagree that shapeshifting is that common in any games at all, at least “real” shapeshifting with the ability to shift permanently.
Elder Scrolls Online has shapeshifting but only for a period of time, TQ hasnt any Shapeshifting same as POE or any other Diablo parts except the newest one (where shapeshifting honestly is pretty crappy and looks weird). So Im really looking forward for that update.
But I hope that werewolfs will be a npc-enemy as well in the new world so that the transformation doesnt fall out of lore or something. For the raven it has already been confirmed that there will be npc ravens/eagles in the new world of Asterkarn
I am bouncing on tiptoes waiting for this expansion. The development history and processes I’ve seen coupled with the astounding size of the in-game map and the lore (plus the release of Farthest Frontier) make me think and hope that at some time in the future Crate will release an MMORPG built from Cairn and all these things fitting together nicely.
I hope I’m right in this suspicion. All these classes and all the different factions would make for an amazing MMORPG.
I think we said this a while ago, but when we set out to make the 2 were forms for the Berserker, we always wanted to do something traditional and something more Grim Dawn. Werewolves and Werebears are a classic for a reason, and so a werewolf seemed like a no-brainer familiar choice, but the wereraven was us having fun with the archetype.
There is no way we would ever tackle an MMO. MMOs takes a lot of capital, a big team, and many many years of development. New MMOs were always a huge financial risk, but they have become all the riskier by the modern f2p games as a service dominating the industry.
These new forms look incredible!
Love this new artwork and the Berserker wallpaper.
Would it be possible to have a version of it with the gritty border and original Grim Dawn logo on it to match all the other mastery wallpapers?
Really really excited for Onslaught. I can finally do a cold Blade Burst build, or use Trozan’s Sky shard on a weapon build, or…
I have to admit I was a bit nervous that this mastery would be too tightly focused on shapeshifting, but it seems to offer a LOT of creative synergy with the other masteries.
