Grim Misadventure #191 - Energized

This is how I feel too. I think the new tooltip is great not only because of the skill icon and different font/color for the skill name, but mostly because it reduces the amount of text in it (not having to repeat the skill name for every mod added to it). Then again I don’t like too much clutter on my tooltips (I don’t use Rainbow Filter to color every stat for example, but only the items’ names and affixes).

From what I’ve seen/read, most people actually want that feature tho, so if it is actually added, maybe it can be as a toggle? Akin to what holding ctrl does when looking at the damage of weapons with/without components.

it just keeps getting better

The Bloodwake design with a symbol in the middle reminds me of the Monado from Xenoblade and I’m all for it. Hopefully there will be a 2H energy sword :eyes:

These are some cool looking weapons. Also Arctis sounds cool, extending Deadly Aim via passive skills is an awesome boon! Not to mention the increase to chance of triggering said passives.

I am surprised though that both the sword and axe do physical damage, I assumed them being made of energy, they’d do their associated damage type.

That armor set looks interesting… wonder what transmog that chest piece is!

#excited Great job, Zantai!

Now I wonder how an energy crossbow would look. Some sick art here!

You realize that not everyone (and especially new players) don’t have all the skills/classes memorized and icons can be helpful, right? … Right?

Can I please have a viable dual wield melee lightning build. Also nice concept as always

Gonna go against the grain here and request that we do not have classes listed next to skil mods. Tooltip bloat is a bad thing, and the new display, while an improvement, has already lengthened it enough. Those players who don’t have skills memorized yet should put in the work to do so. Doesn’t take that long

ALSO PLEASE STOP ASKING ABOUT FANGS EXPANSION

Jesus fuck, the thing will be ready when it’s ready. Go make new builds, there are literally hundreds that you haven’t even tried yet. So very much content at your fingertips, and all you can think about is the “new thing” … Kids these days, no patience, i tell ya …

Uh? How is the new tooltip making it longer? Overall text is way less, specially for longer skill names like the featured Albrecht’s Aether Ray, which is repeated for every mod added to the skill.

I don’t like having the masteries names either, but not everyone is the same, and specially for new players I can see it being benefitial to their overall understanding of the game. Maybe it can be done with an option to toggle it, something like holding ctrl to show the masteries so it’s not invasive, but remains an option for those who need it, would be awesome.

hahahaha impatient people, right, all this impatience and why grim dawn is a great game this is very clear, I think people want here to have a table about everything that is to do like LE, as for the rush for the new DLC and as our friend already mentioned, grim dawn has several builds that I’m sure very few people played with them until the end of the game.

it sounds funny, but less text might not actually reduce tooltip length, because it’s handled on 1 line
icons then each now add 1 more line just for the icon, with an additional line for the spacing, give you more tooltip to “scroll” through to reach the bottom

so while it gives a shorter/neater overview at a glance/“less to read” it then still results in increasing tooltip size via more lines(/if counting length instead of width)

Look at what’s happened with D4 and even POE2. Both have been very underwhelming to longtime fans of the series. If the next GD expansion releases in 2026, then I won’t care as long as it’s the same quality as previous expansions/updates/additional content.

Didn’t thought about it that way, fair enough. Maybe it’s a bit inevitable tho, with items that will have to support up to 4 skills, so less clutter/more clarity is still very welcome, and a toggle that displays “more info” like skill’s masteries would be neat for new players to go “ohh I can combine this and convert that and whoosh” (but hopefully as a toggle so I can hide it too  )

Yes, or at least the option to toggle it off.

Also agree.

The option to toggle it off is something that I’d give for granted (in the same fashion of the last tooltip change).

Regarding memorizing skills, maybe I’m dumb, but event after 500+ hours I still don’t remember all skills and their modifiers, especially for classes that I rarely play. And in 500+ hours I think that I put enough effort …

As an additional point, I find the new tooltip more easy to read with a quick look, and I can check right away the modifier for the skill that I’m interested, while instead with the current tooltip I need to scan a wall of text, especially for the new weapons like the ones in the screenshot Bloodwake and Arctis

Agreed. I’ve somehow accumulated 1500, but I don’t know all skills by heart. Especially not secondary nodes. Some are also very similarly named. Maybe it’s easier for native speakers?
Either way it’s better if you don’t have to learn anything by heart and the game tells you clearly what’s going on. Makes it easier for new players, returning players, players that don’t have hundreds of hours to ‘learn’ the game, etc.

there are 136 skills in the player trees, (not counting secondary nodes, not counting transmuters, not counting zerker), - which might then have item modifiers
