Grim Misadventure #197 - Sounds of Asterkarn

I like the new menu, good job

I've got 3 suggestions :

1- Would be great to be able to get the character creation and the character list at the bottom right (or add it as a option in the settings maybe ?)

2- Would be great if you had a scroll bar to be able to go through all your characters, because right now i need to scroll down with the scroll whell through all my characters (about 100 characters, more to come with the expansion)
3- Maybe being able to expand (up) your character list, especially when having alot of characters

Soon brothers and sisters… soon.
Amazing job with the music like always.

This is how they were in Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance! It would be cool but I am not sure the engine is equipped for it.

I’ve read somewhere in Titan Quest monsters actually shattered while killed with cold spells. Also, they are literally dissolving layer by layer after lying around, just put a green color on it and make it start after getting killed by acid and voila.

Fantastic job, I love this new UI!

Could I ask for an additional feature?
I’d love to be able to choose a “random” option for the main menu background, so that each time I return to the menu screen, I can potentially see a different background.

i would absolutely love if the character roll included an indicator for whether its an HC toon without having to start a game to see it.

nevermind I see the skull icon now, please release more loyalty packs so i can give crate more money.

Even now you don’t have to start a game to see if a character is HC. All HC characters have a very distinct orange glow in the main menu.

I offer this criticism of the new UI because I know Crate can take it.

I’m obviously an extreme minority based on the comments, but I don’t like the new UI and font at all, particularly the font. It looks generic, plain, devoid of character, just another Diablo wannabe ARPG; which isn’t GD at all.

The new art style of the UI is quite sharp, angular, with lots of little lines, hard corners, and a simultaneously bright and dull tan color that is out of place with the rest of the game’s art style. Look at the barrels or the planks of the bridge (or anything in the scene really). It’s a pretty jarring contrast between the two styles. The world is a dark, grimy, worn, post apocalyptic mess, yet the new UI is bright, crisp, clean, sharp edged, with unnecessary embellishments. The clash between the two doesn’t work.

A UI change may seem like a small thing, but it’s kinda like tires on a car. “Where the rubber meets the road” and all, it’s how players interact with the game. Changing font and art style after a decade can and usually does disproportionately change the vibe of a game. I think you need to knock it out of the park if you’re going to change it, or keep it true to the original. Neither is the case here in my opinion.

I fully support the work for a UI update for scaling purposes and whatnot. I just think its current visual iteration misses the mark and is not the quality I expect from Crate. I hope it’s just the current iteration and will be further iterated upon to fit in with the rest of the (wonderful) art of the game.

Ok, fixed it for you.

I’m going to assume English isn’t your native language given the meme speak “ok, fixed it for you” and what you did is a total non sequitur to what I explained. Cute though it is.

You still have to actually type “delete” after selecting that. No one’s accidentally going to delete a character. Regardless of where the button is.

I’m not normally one for in-game music, but I think in this instance I could be persuaded to stump up some cash for a DLC that’s an orchestral remaster of the game’s entire soundtrack.

maybe if there are large bodies of water in Asterkarn Gordon Wightfoot could do a track?

Yes, overhaul the entire UI will make the game feel neat again in 2026!

I think we are having MORE! which is good

If you ask me, a theme that would actually look amazing for Grim Dawn’s UI is a wood theme, with blood splash on some parts, with rusty screws here and there, robotic meets Victoria era

I really really like this, you can immediately feel the atmosphere.

Goated game, goated developers.
