Grim Misadventure #197 - Sounds of Asterkarn

What do you know, a Grim Misadventure. Last time, we had the pleasure of unveiling the next major faction: the Kurn. The resilient people of Asterkarn have endured countless hardships, and you will find them contending with one of the biggest threats yet to their survival.

Today, we have our first look at the Fangs of Asterkarn main menu. Huddle up next to your bonfire as the chilling winds of the north threaten to sap you of warmth.

As you can see, we are making some pretty major changes to the game UI. One might call it a complete overhaul as we tear out ancient code so that even the main menu can scale for our 4k friends out there. And with it come new visuals. In fact, we have gone through almost every UI in the game and made changes both big and small. But we will save that preview for another time…a v1.3.0 preview perhaps.

But what better way to experience these hot new assets than to hear what’s playing alongside them? We have just concluded recording on the Fangs of Asterkarn soundtrack which, for the very first time in Grim Dawn’s history, will feature live orchestra music. Today we have a sample of the 26 tracks that await in the full version of the DLC.

But while we had the orchestra’s attention, we figured why not revisit a fan favorite? The classic track “Lonely Moon” has been remastered for your listening pleasure!

You can download it here.

All this and more is coming your way next year. As of today, Fangs of Asterkarn is on track to release in the first half of 2026.

For those of you in the US, we wish you a pleasant Thanksgiving and a gentle food coma!

Like knowing what is coming up next for Grim Dawn? Check back on December 29th for the next Grim Misadventure!

That’s a very nice looking new UI in the first screenshot! :eyes:

New UI looks very nice. That new menu artwork is totally beautiful, love the depth with the mountain in the background.

The refreshed UI looks very good. That alone makes the game seem more modern. The music is atmospheric and gloomy, just as it should be in Grim Dawn :smirk::ok_hand:

This OST sounds awesome. Lonely Moon remaster sound like something Matt Uelmen would not be ashamed of.

The wait is difficult to bear :l

Gotta say - thats a nice looking menu there

But - how complicated it would be to add a small search bar above or bellow char list (like existing ones for inventory) that would allow search of playable characters by name or class?

Eco of Asterkan

Apparently the new UI comes with higher res font !! How about hi-res texture and effect next, something like GrimTex but even better? :star_struck:

Looking good. Are all the old tracks getting remastered and played by an orchestra or only the FoA tracks?

As opposed to music by the also commendable and recently resurrected Electric Wight Orchestra

“We’re On Thin Ice”
“Is That A Yeti?”
“Heart of Cold”
“Kurn Down for What”
“(You Gotta) Fight for Your Wight (To Party!)”

Grim Dawn’s soundtrack never disappoints. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

This topic has already been discussed. It would be a time-consuming and costly undertaking. They would have to review every texture in the game. When Crate does something, they usually want to do it as well as possible. Maybe someday they’ll come up with the idea of remastering the game? But there definitely won’t be a texture update in the current version of the game.

Absolutely have been loving the soundtracks. They were very good for the basegame, and these new ones are no exception!

That 4k UI definitely sounds good.

who knows? For a long time they said there won’t be another expansion

This comes up from time to time:
