Grim Misadventure #202 - Asterkarn Cartography

I believe most people here share the same sentiment - keep cooking until it’s well-done. Ignore impatient people. There’s no room for any kind of frustration when there was no pre-orders, no asking for donations and no release date.

Also, brace yourself for a lot of criticism (and most of it won’t be justified). PoE made the genre mainstream and FoA will put Grim Dawn on the radar. Normally you’d see GD show up in some comments or threads but once FoA releases and some popular streamers will try it - there will be a storm of unreasonable comments, comparisons and demands. I hope I’m wrong and there won’t be a lot of undeserved negativity but the industry is not in a good place so it’s better to be prepared.

I love me a map. Ever since I first picked up sword & sorcery novels way back when.

Love this Misadventure. So excited to see all this in game. Excited in a supportive way, that is. Obviously please keep up the great work and keep cooking until this masterpiece is done!

Anywhere between now and September 14th we’ll finally get this expansion, and hopefully news on Grim Dawn 2 before the years over.

Debating someone on the basis of their content is a valid stance, but policing them for their candor seems a bridge built a smidge too far. I think they’re allowed to feel frustrated (as you stated you have felt, to some degree), and I, at least, sympathize with anyone that sighs with frustration at the GM’s with no hard dates, even if I’m just a gutless fanboy myself.

Would have been funnier to say “The Ice Man Cometh”. You know, b/c it’s up North, and, uh, … nvm.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on this one. If anything, it would be news about the next game in the pipeline which I think is the RTS but I may be mistaken. But even then, I doubt we’ll hear anything about that this year. GD2 hasn’t even entered preproduction yet (afaik) so it’ll probably be a few years before we hear anything about it. One can hope though

There is VERY little negativity here that I see, certainly a minuscule amount compared to any other ARPG I play. Even this guy you’re talking to is barely being critical, it just really stands out here b/c everyone is so positive.

Which we all have good reason to be positive, at least imo, b/c we’ve gotten FAR more content than expected. I was happy with AOM came out, I thought that would be a fitting end to the GD story, then we got FG, then we kept getting more and more huge content patches and updates, now another expansion that’s bigger than both of the others combined? It’s almost too much for this jaded 52 year old gamer to bear without losing his distrust in the world and throwing money at all things Crate just b/c. Does it suck that it’s taken 3 years since the original announcement of FoA? Sure, but in the way that it would suck if Sydney Sweeney saw you at a party, told you to meet her in the bedroom, but then she made you wait 45 minutes b/c she was taking a longer than expected shower. You’re still getting the fun part, and it might even be a bit more fun that you’d anticipated, you just had to wait a few minutes longer than most of us could bear.

this is gonna be utterly massive. so pumped.

I think I am indeed calling out the content. I’m sorry but there’s no world where telling someone that they “let you down” because the game they’re making isn’t out yet isn’t both rude and a waste of time.

There have been whole threads on this forum in just the last week where people are complaining about the public beta test and how long things are taking.

I don’t come here too often, and I happen to be on vacation, so it may just be me taking it too strongly. Plus I’m being a little hypocritical typing all this out after the issues I’m taking with that exact behavior, I know.

I think you’re right in that this is just a vocal minority, but that is often the case. It’s just that this is a smaller community for a smaller game, so it stands out more.

To your fascinating example, calling up Sidney Sweeney while you’re waiting to say she let you down with how long she’s taking to get to the bed room, feels like a bad way to ensure you get what you want.

The unfortunate reality here, is that people can be rude to the developers all they want and still get to play the game. So, I did a little, admittedly embarrassing by my own metrics, white knight act in response I guess

To think that the world of Cairn is much larger than these small maps we know. One can only wonder what the limits of the ethereal threat are on a global scale and how much has happened beyond them…

I don’t have health for all this expectation and anxiety. Crate is going to kill me! Please, take my money! :star_struck:

Can’t wait to get MOAR of the best game ever

The map looks absolutely incredible, and the data you put together makes a seriously strong case, thanks for all the hard work! Between Xbox and PC, I’ve clocked around 1,000 hours, and honestly? The new DLC is probably gonna pull just as many out of me. I’M HYPED AF.
Thank you again for everything guys!

Damn, this is going to be HUGE! Can’t wait!

The 1800+ Unique skill modifiers are imo really the difference maker.

Are there REALLY 1800 modifiers, adding flat damages, TD modifiers, cooldowns etc to skills?

Or this includes the ascendant drop mechanic, quote:

Ascendant Mode grants all common items a chance to Ascend. Ascended items will roll a third affix that comes with many powerful and unusual bonuses. These will help you get some hard to find skill bonuses, and to fill in gaps in your stats. You may even find a damage conversion that cannot be found anywhere else.

Which could translate to having a huge pool (1800+) of fixed modifiers, where ascendant items will be modified from.

Also, as I understand it, with ascendancy, the whole campaign map (or only Kurn/FoA?..) will adopt a new level of difficulty with varying/desiring monster properties and loot. Similar to PoE maps, but applied to the whole campaign. This could be the new “end game”, not SR

In any case, the number of builds will increase exponentially, have fun balancing in future patches mr Zentai

I think Ascenant Mode is supposed to be a new endgame in addition to SR rather than a replacement for it. But, yeah, as usual, we get MOAR.

Ascendant Mode looks like a good way to enter the expansion with fully geared level 100 characters.

I think it launches at the same time as the expansion. There are plenty of ways to fully gear out characters already, that’s just one more.

Absolutely a banger content as soon as the Asterkarn entrance melts. :ice_cube: :ice_cube: :ice_cube:
