Could Grimarillion mod as a permanent unofficial DSL on Steam Grim Dawn store page?
Grimarillion mod as a permanent unofficial DSL available through the Official Steam Grim Dawn store page ~ Is this possible because of its vast popularity. Could the amount of space for builds be significantly increased. Please, many thanks from Peter. Especially with the imminent release date of Fangs of Asterkarn approaching ever closer.

i think licensing would be the biggest issue. if it was a fan repository. such as workshop they might have more leeway. but if i remember what i seen yesterday correctly getting it on the store page would be a nightmare. plus cause issues over time. do to how licensing works. if all content from non Crate games was only inspired by other IPs it might be possible. but if what i’m seeing is correct a lot of the mod content can be directly tied to Non Crate Entertainment IPs. though the mod authors changing that might effect things. i’ve heard of it happening with other fan creations in other areas

Crate devs would likely have a better or more complete answer. that is just my two cents

the latest version on Nexusmods has less than 3k downloads and most versions on other platforms have less than 1k downloads, is that really considered vastly popular? Well I guess compared to most other GD mods it kinda is, but compared to other games those numbers seem really small.

But even if it had the numbers of the most popular mod Dawn of Masteries (currently 10k downloads on Nexusmods, 21k on Moddb), as LeadShorts said there will be licensing/copyright issues for the logos, graphics and other assets in the mod that aren’t property of Crate.
In case of content taken from Blizzard or THQN games, all that would have to be removed first which defeats the purpose of the mod.

It is very rare that user-made content is turned into officially released content, in those cases where I’ve seen it happening the modder was contracted and paid by the game studio, to avoid legal issues with intellectual property.

i was talking more along the lines of a book series. if i got the backstory right the fanfic author was convinced by their fans to convert to a completely self owned IP. removing all of the original references to the IP the series was based on. the end product has had a larger impact on society then the original product it was inspired by

they likely won’t ever list your product on their official store page, do to legal reasons. doesn’t mean you can’t fully own it and make it a thing of your own. make it something bigger then what it came from. what truly matters is how much effort the mod devs are willing to put forward. Hercules had tests. this wasn’t one of them. it would have been though. and anyone that can pass it is worthy of the accolades they have earned

We’re thrilled that players are using our tools to make their own creations (it’s especially great as a former modder myself) and are all for supporting those endeavors with new functions, our community section, and even dedicated sub-forums. But we can’t really do something like list a mod on a store front.

Not only would that be a disservice to someone else’s efforts which we would be indirectly profiting from, we literally could not do so if a mod is based off of another IP. Mods such as Grimarillion, D3 Classes and Reign of Terror are allowed to exist because they are fan creations. If we got involved, we’d probably be very familiar with Embracer/Blizzard lawyers in record time.

Not to mention the logistics of keeping a modder’s work up to date through an official link, and the pressure on them to keep it updated. I imagine it’s already bad enough when modders get hassled to update their mods ASAP after a game update. That would only get worse.

Terraria’s dev actually turned game development over to the fans. is the way i understand it. not sure how that went internally, or if at some point he changed his mind. just that a entire team was sourced from the modders to continue work on the game. So it could live on for the fans, with the fans help. While he concentrated his resources on other endevours

not arguing or hinting or nothing. just a interesting story i thought you might like if you don’t know it. there is no one right way. all the different right ways make for fascinating storytelling

50 Shades of Grey was the series i was talking about. my understanding is it was originally a fanfic of Twilight. Then shifted to being it’s own thing, inspired by a work that the fan truly loved. Basically it was originally a Mod of the original. Now it it’s own separate thing

Just waiting to find what the next heartwarming story i can pass on will be. Will it be a modder who took a craft of love and turned into
