“us” who? I have seen you on twitch, you are alone there…there cannot be more of you!!!
I am more into modding because of R than anything else, and would love to collaborate on that aspect. Right now, I just want to figure things out and learn as much as possible.
Nice vid…I as wondering where you would quit…run away at a cave entrance, very good demonstration of this mods toughness, there are a lot of proxies right behind a door. Try to get into Devils Aquifier.
And you can import toons, you need to move files around.
Nice to know we’ll be able to import toons!
And I got into Devil’s Aquifier today…I’ve actually been playing for more than 90 minutes and, nah, wasn’t able to pass it I had to quit the game twice because my character was about to die (yes, I allow myself that tiny cheat on hardcore!).
Will the next version be more difficult? Less? Or simply “different”?
heh, my goal for modding is mostly making the game play the way I want it to play.
But any and all learning experiences on the way I gladly take and use the next time around.
my main problem atm is how to make all nemesis spawn, been bugging me for weeks.
So, since you said we would need to move files around to import toons…How do we know if the new version is working correctly?
I mean, this is what I did : I deleted the old grimmest file, put the new one, launched the game and…Was able to play with my old toon, so I guess it’s working well? ^^
Didn’t see any big different though. It’s still impossible for me to pass the slith quest at the very beginning of the game. I’m level 17 facing waves of monsters and heroes that are beyond me (level 18 to 20). The crappy loot doesn’t help!
TBH I often found myself exploiting monster AI in situations where there were many champions. Most monsters have what is basically “invisible chains” and are tethered to a location. So I engage them, as a ranged I’m slowly kiting them farther and farther from their spawn. Eventually they will stop chasing, turn and head back toward where they spawned. If you are ranged perhaps you can try this tactic aswell.
I’ve been using that one with ranged classes since TQ!
But I’m trying to play a melee build here, and things are getting trickier and trickier.
Even if I manage to past the first cellar of the slith level, I get stuck as soon as I encounter the spiders. The spiders that spawn have the lability to trap me in webs, making it impossible to run for the exit (I’m playing on hardcore, so the tactic of “killing some, dying, respawning, killing some more, dying again, etc…” doesn’t apply for me).
I might have to switch masteries again and go for a pure caster, for the time being.
Jiaco, you know my feedback. This thing is a sidekick to the nuts!
Made a new character earlier to go through .5 in hardcore and… fucking hell. Had a few minutes left to rush through the Flooded passage to get to the Outskirts and who do I meet? Who do I fookin’ meet at the end? 10 ancient shamblers. TEN ancient shamblers. With my yellow gavel and a pair of g-strings strapped to my arse. Wow!
Loving it so far. The changes are amazing!
p.s.: That trick we discovered earlier with certain mobs with “two phases” that get multiplied is gorgeous. You think you’re fighting two Wardens? Fuck no you’re not. SIX, bitch!;))
This looks like an incredible variant to the vanilla game…!
What I would like to ask is. I have just come back to GD after a little break. I am currently LVL 19 and am yet to reach The Warden. I really like the idea of a much more challenging experience of GD, more mobs, bosses, potential loot, etc.
Should I dump this character and start a fresh with Grimmest installed? I haven’t yet actually finished the game’s story - should I perhaps stick with the Vanilla game to experience it as it was intended or will Grimmest just be that much of a more enjoyable experience?
I assume, and am looking for confirmation, that with more and more mobs, heroes, bosses - the loot drops are obviously increased in quantity, right?
Do I just go ahead and download the grimmest_v0.5.zip file under the assumption that that is the latest version of the mod? Each time there is a newer version released, should I just overwrite my currently installed version with the new one?
Is there anything else I should know about this Mod? Is it still unbalanced, missing any core features or needing any further refinement in order to provide a genuine experience or will I be able to happily play it and experience a challenging and rewarding GD experience?
About item quantity…
When I first tried 0.3 I copied my level 75 ultimate character and ported to Burrwich Outskirts where I spotted a giant blue blob, hidden by trees.
Turns out it was a huge group of mobs that were glowing with auras and after a really tough fight I had cleared one screen. Got around 8 blues, one legendary, 4 rare crafting ingredients, so I daresay: Do not worry^^
Nah I’m ok with the difficulty. Although it is a tough, tough cookie, that bitch.
Salazar weirdly enough I’ve only had one spawn earlier today. Doom bolts galore wasn’t there. But bosses in small rooms spawning in multiples can be something hard, hard to overcome. Especially on hardcore. Fuck it, all in!
Hmm… maybe tone down the likes of Salazar, Karroz, the Wardens of the world. Anything in really small rooms? Lucius is borderline. I don’t know. Any of those where you’ve got maneuvering room I think should be fine. I’m sure you know better than I do which ones are problematic. Especially on normal where you’re just gearing up. But still. Fuck it!
I do not want to be a pain by asking the questions I asked yesterday but I still have not had an answer to the majority of my questions.
Mainly I would really like to know whether I should dump my newly made LVL 19 character and start a fresh with Grimmest installed? I haven’t yet actually finished the game’s story - should I perhaps stick with the Vanilla game to experience it as it was intended or will Grimmest just be that much of a more enjoyable experience? Is Grimmest just over the top to the point where it is comical or simply a more challenging experience of GD that still retains the integrity of the vanilla game?
Do I just go ahead and download the grimmest_v0.5.zip file under the assumption that that is the latest version of the mod? Each time there is a newer version released, should I just overwrite my currently installed version with the new one?

Syn: Main Campaign characters are stored separately from Custom Game characters, so if your level 19 is in Main Campaign, you can always just leave him there to play later. Grimmest is more challenging, for sure, and if I remember right at this point it’s mostly just adjustments to monster spawns (there’s more of them, and multiple bosses where there were normally just one). If a bigger challenge and a lot more monsters sounds fun to you, then by all means try it out! I haven’t beaten the story at all myself yet (I only ever beat act 1), but I’m having a lot of fun with Grimmest. And you can always go back to your 19 Main Campaign character if you want to get more familiar with the game without being as overwhelmed.
As to your second question, I think that yes, you can just overwrite the version you currently have with the new one, since I don’t think jaico is changing the file names.
As to your last, the only unbalanced parts would be, maybe, trying to deal with a lot more mobs at one time. It hasn’t actually touched on skills or anything like that (except XP gain being cut, because of the higher spawns), so it’s pretty much the same as vanilla, but like I said, with more monsters, more hero monster spawns, and more bosses. Hope this helps some!
