Have only done this encounter once, this is what happened:

You can see that before he dies, he is casting his chaos pool, but it isn’t under my feet, it’s under himself? Haven’t re-done the fight so I haven’t replicated this, so I don’t know if this was some weird one off.

OK, day 2, attempt 2:

You can see he targets me correctly at the start, I strafe to get out of the pool, and then BLOOP he starts casting under himself again.
