Harvestman's Scythe

I’d been following this constellaton for a while and it has quite a history of buffs.

The most recent are:

1.0.0.8
Harvestman's Scythe: added 2% Defensive Ability
1.0.0.7
Harvestman's Scythe: added 4% Move Speed
1.0.0.5
Harvestman's Scythe: added 150 Health, 150 Energy, 4% Health and 4% Energy

Still, I don’t recall it ever being mentioned on the forum in the last three months, like it just doesn’t exist.

Why you do/don’t use it?

My guess it’s either too weak to take it for what it is or 3 blue + 3 purple being hard to fit into most conventional builds.

The only build where I managed to squeeze Scythe in is my work-in-progress phys/bleed witchblade: devotions

Point requirements are absolute shit is the problem with it. I’d love to grab it, but I just can’t do it thanks to how awkward it is, just like almost every other tri-requirement T2 devotion. Virtually none of them are used. About the only exception is Huntress for Rend, but that’s just because its a crucial source of Bleed resist redux.

Crossroads yellow + virtually any 2 yellow 3 blue constellation + self-support.

Pretty much the reason i don’t take it has been stated above. I’m not really a fan of constellations that require 3 different types of affinity. That and i also don’t like constellations that asks for affinity that is almost on the other end of the devotion map.

The only constellations i’ve picked up so far with 3 affinity types requirement is Hydra and Huntress and that was because Huntress is mandatory for bleed builds and with the Hydra i mannaged to get it without sacrificing points on worthless crap for that particular build.

I honestly would change to either 4 yellow and 4 purple or 4 purple and 4 green.

I do use harvest man’s Scythe but it is normally the last one I go for when I have all the constellations I need for my build. I have to say it is a good all rounder and supports basically every build.

I do agree that it is a bit awkward in that it it does require 3 different constellation colours to get but I don’t really have any suggestion to improve that at the moment especially with the expansion around the corner.

My one suggestion for this constellation would be to add something like 25-50% to all damage as it needs it and fits in with the theme of the constellation. Though, this is one constellation that I do like!

Can you please give a few examples of builds where you use the Scythe?
No need for grimcalc, just rough ideas.

I used it for a while but placement is awkward

The constellation itself seems fine and is helpful for energy intensive builds

My AAR battlemage use it. Its quite pointeffective if you need both life and mana and manaregen. With extra %DA from last patch it became a killer deal.

My 2H ranged cold spellbreaker uses it. It and Kraken are enough to sustain Kraken itself, it’s a great buff to health and energy and it gives ascendant towards Leviathan.

I use it on my TSS Druid so I can reach Chariot without investing in a dedicated purple constellation. Very nice too since they added the DA.

Behemoth says hi =).

I almost use Behemoth every time

Very many of my build used Harvestman’s Scythe, it’s very sweet

Behemoth is very special, and you know it  If Scythe had a proc that is at least half as good then Scythe would be a very overused constellation too.

Still I’m surprised so many people actually claim to use Scythe in their builds.

I agree on this. Almost any good build i look in Classes/Builds/Skills section have no points on that. Also Behemoth is easier to to take.

Its actualy the only T2 conselation that give 6 Affinity . 1 per point spend. And all nodes exept one are nice. Im surprised that some ppl claim that scythne is weak 0_o.

Of course, other builds, which are not included in the compendium do not exist. It is a myth.

I have used it with my Sword and Board witchblade, very focused on defence and HP regen and the 20% bonus HP regen is really nice, especially with constant nerfs to tree of life.

Admittedly I haven’t completed the constellation with that build as I’m waiting for the expansion for more devotion points. My original plan was to complete harvestman’s scythe to allow me to get the Dire Bear, but that is subject to change with the new constellations we’ll get in the expansion. I’ll need 10 points to complete the scythe and bear.

I have it on my Tremor build as the energy regen on the first point is a real boon and the movement speed really helps for better kiting.

I am also thinking about getting it for my blade arc build. It is still preliminary but something like this:

Generally speaking it is good all round with no particular strengths or weaknesses unlike other devotions which are very clearly going for one thing. If you have a build that needs some bonus cunning for ranged weapons or spirit for jewellery or focus items it can give you your requirement without having to invest more attribute points in those stats. The general survivability you get is also pretty good with the bonus HP, %HP, HP Regen, % HP Regen and % physique.

I have a Soldier+Demolitionist 1h melee+shield character who uses fire strike, grenade and canister bomb. In devotions I went for blue and yellow lines completing both the Obelisk and Empyrion. In the end I had some points left so i boosted physical and int trauma damage in the purple line and got the Scythe because mana usage on that character was crazy. It also gave me another 3 points in the blue line so I was able to make some changes in the constellations and also got the Anvil.

I think it either gives 1 completion point too few, or has 1 node too many, or the final node just still needs some more oomph.
Otherwise there are very few reasons to take it, unless you’re really hard up for regen or need the fairly rare combo of 3 blue/3 purple completion, which AFAIK only Wraith gives besides it.

Niche builds aside, you take constellations to a) reach better constellations and/or b) for specific bonuses. The scythe just doesn’t stand out because of its meh affinity point cost/reward value and how everything about it can be easily gained from items. There are simply better ways to gain ascendant/primordial affinity points (and corresponding rarer bonuses) for most builds.

The only way to really buff the scythe IMO is to reduce the number of stars in the the constellation to 4/5.
The only time I’ve used the constellation was on an Occultist summoner back in B30, because reaching 10k+ HP while juggling Phys/Cunning/Spirit/OA requirements was a lot trickier then. Nowadays +HP/OA mods are everywhere.
