I never had trouble choosing before but currently maybe I’m bonding to my character and want to think more about the choice. Also it’s hard to find time to play lots of characters. So my character is an Oathkeeper without a second class so far. I think of him as devoted to the old God’s of the empire and not aligning with the Witch Gods (haven’t done any FG content yet though) and not aligning with Ch’thon either. Fighting for humanity.
So I’ve read a little that both KC and DV are dubious choices but basically your taking your best bet to fight against Aetherials and Cult of Ch’thon. KC are fanatics and DV are creepy guys who bind the dead to their will or what have you. My character is an Oathkeeper and likes Vire and Empyrion and Menhir. But that does not necessarily mean he thinks KC are really the chosen people of Empyrion. He may or may not think they are frauds. So I cannot think what to pick even though I know it doesn’t make much difference either way.
IMO your character has no reason to doubt Kymon’s Chosen at the outset. Fanatics yes, but they are believers that are apparently endowed with the light and power of Empyrion, the very god they revere. Why wouldn’t they be fanatical? There’s no evidence that the Chosen do anything dubious or unsavory except for persecuting the Order of Death’s Vigil, who they see as patently evil.
I went with advice here and chose Kymon’s. Talked to everyone in their hideout and they do seem sincere. Father Kymon was in a ruins and discovered some relics or writing or something and then when he came back to Erulan (he was a luminari at that time) he discovered his friends had been possessed by Aetherials so I ran out and banded together with other’s who wanted to hear his message of Empyrion.
I’m kinda late for the picnic but I bet in the beginning Kymons would burn you at the stake in the Devil’s Crossing right away, while DV would have listened of what you have to say. Btw after the current circumstances would be resolved, the alliance with Kymons should lead to war with Outcasts, Coven of Ugdenbog and the Barrowholm. There is no shades of gray for Kymons, and everything is gray for DV.
Or Kymons should pick someone less zealous for the presentation
Well, there is some sort of apocalyptic otherworldly invasion trying to wipe out humanity. Being arrogant and pompous doesn’t register a lot when you can bring heavenly fire and determination.
Doesn’t matter. The key description of the character he’s roleplaying was:
“I think of him as devoted to the old God’s of the empire”
The empire hunted down necromancers and occultists as heretics and apostates. Joining with devotees of the god of light and fire makes more sense considering the kind of Oathkeeper he’s describing.
Both sides are fine to choose from and have the commonality of their leaders eventually being undone by their search for more power.
People say how Kymon’s Chosen are all jerks and stuff yet where were the Necromancers during the Grim Dawn? Oh. Right. Playing “Where’s Waldo” with Family Abandonment Man.
Kymon to me at least stuck with his people until he became corrupt via Korvaak/Messenger while Uroboruuk wanders around drunk on power leaving everyone and all the problems included behind.
