[HC] [1.2.1.6] [Caster] The Causticabalist - Beginner HC acid nuker cabalist guide from the scratch + all celestials killer endgame build!

  • [Caster] [1.2.1.6] The Causticabalist (Ralfhskz)
    • Damage: Acid, poison
    • Active Skills: Dreeg’s evil eye, ravenous earth, curse of frailty, blood of dreeg, call of the grave, mark of torment

Hail to you, grimmers!

I theorycrafted an acid cabalist some time ago, and after the latest changes on patch 1.2.1.6, this char became even more viable!

The idea here is a toxic nuker that can safely melt all things on his way doing poison damage over time (DoT), while it can kite safely when needed (but tbh this char can facetank a lot, has decent health regen , phys resist and mark of torment can save your ass on dangerous situations).

The skill rotation is simple: debuff enemies with curse of frailty, bloody pox and cast DEE (dreeg’s evil eye) and ravenous earth on your enemies.

Remember to keep blood of dreeg always up (not only heals you, but gives great acid dmg boost, poison and physical resist)

I leveled this char this way:

Lvl 1-10 Cabalist, Level 10 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

Started as occultist.
Spend your first points on DEE and on the mastery bar. You’re gonna melt all mobs very fast!

The first item you’re gonna farm is the Pusquill’s Tail on putrid den, near the lower crossing rift
den

After getting the focused gaze node on DEE line, attach an mutagenic ichor on your weapon for now, you’re gonna use the spammable poison bomb skill granted from it, while the DEE is on cooldown.

Lvl 10-20 Cabalist, Level 20 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

Another good starting item is the Groble Toxic Effigy, you can farm it from the groble mobs on burrwitch outskirts.

After getting the 6 first devotion points, complete the akeron’s scorpion (bind the proc to poison bomb)

Lvl 20-30 Cabalist, Level 30 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

After defeating warden Krieg, head straight to old arkovia to farm our main amulet, the Ronaprax’s Sting on the stirring hive.
hive

After farming the amulet, go to the Forgotten gods DLC, we will farm another items there!
Our build’s main weapon, the Crimson’s Vile Scepter will be farmed on the tomb of sethan, near the infernal wastes rift
sethan
Sister Crimson can drop our main chest armor too, the Chosen Raiment, just keep farming her until it drops.

Don’t forget to spend points on the necromancer’s mastery bar until you get ravenous earth skill. Start spending some points into it (on spectral wrath too).

On devotions, complete the wretch and behemoth.

Lvl 30-40 Cabalist, Level 40 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

You should be getting close to complete the vanilla campaign (defeat the loghorrean).
On devotions, complete the tortoise, murmur (bind proc to curse of frailty), manticore (spend a point on bloody pox and bind the proc to it), hammer, (remove akeron’s scorpion), start spending points on harvestman’s scythe.

Lvl 40-50 Cabalist, Level 50 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

After defeating the loghorrean, go straight to ugdenbog!

You can farm build’s main off-hand and medal there.

The Leafmane Horn can be found with the leafmane mobs and the Basilisk Crest with the venomgaze mobs. But the easiest (fastest) way is paying a visit to vinelton’s shop on ancient grove and buying them.

On devotions, complete the harvestman’s scythe (remove hammer, remove wretch), then complete chariot of the dead and rat.

Lvl 50-60 Cabalist, Level 61 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

I started elite difficulty at lvl 54.

Upgrade your gear, cap your resistances and don’t forget farming monster totems.

On devotions, complete the raven and complete abomination (why the vitality branch from abomination, you may ask? well we have full vitality to acid conversion with the offhand and chest armor).

:zap:obs:

Ty @tqFan for reminding me of this! I think it’s best swapping the bloody pox to ravenous earth on manticore’s and tainted eruption procs, specially for bosses fights.

Lvl 60-70 Cabalist, Level 70 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

I started ultimate difficulty at lvl 72.

Don’g forget upgrading your gear, checking resistances and check your reputation with factions, you should buy their writs just right when you get honored with them.

Lvl 70-80 Cabalist, Level 80 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

At this lvl, you should be completing Vanilla campaign and the AoM and FG DLCs. As soon as you reach revered status with malmouth faction, buy some potions of clarity from them, they help a lot speeding up the leveling!

Lvl 80-90 Cabalist, Level 90 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

Time to begin the endgame gear farming.

You know where to farm your weapon, off-hand, medal, amulet and chest armor already.

Buy your shoulder armor and gloves on the rovers faction shop.

Buy your boots from the homestead faction shop.

You can craft your belt. Buy its blueprint from the rovers faction shop.

You can farm your rings on ugdenbog. (Fastest way is buying them on vinelton’s shop)

Farm your pants from the dreeg’s guardian near devil’s crossing.

You will find your helmet near the korvan sands rift, on the the maw of enaht’s entrance.

:arrow_forward:CHAR LVL 100 SPEC :arrow_backward:

:muscle:" Allright i hit LVL 100 and i’m fully geared… now what?"

This char can easily and quickly farm all skeleton key dungeons and is a good and fast SR26-27 farmer.
If you don’t have all the endgame celestial killer build’s items, you can use this spec to farm them easily.

Some video proof:

Rashalga

Kra’vall

Korvaak

Theodin Marcell

Morgoneth (Full run)

Gargabol (full run + kuba fight)

SR26

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:thinking:Now what??

This char can kill all celestials with this endgame spec

:star: Cabalist, Level 100 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator :star:

The skill rotation remains the same here! Just be careful with celestials sunder debuffs if you’re playing HC.

Mogdrogen (used stormshroud ointment for lightning resist and hp regen pharma to be safe)

Callagadra

Ravager of flesh

Crate of Entertainment

That’s a really fun build and nice achievements. I thought about it too (the endgame build, but only got to selecting a few key items).

You have a very cool devotion which I haven’t seen before. One minor thing - I think I’d change Eruption and Acid Spray bound skills (RE and Pox currently) with each other.

Vs groups it should be similar but way better vs single target imo:

  • RE can instantly proc Acid Spray, its RR and the flat Acid from the skill every second thanks to all these projectiles

  • wheras with Pox you have like 6.66s average time (single target scenario) to proc Acid Spray for the first time.
Eruption doesn’t have enough damage to warrant using RE for it and when you proc it once it will be on for eternity due to poison duration bonuses.

Very fun looking build I had planned to revisit some of my old(er) acid RE builds now when Necro FINALLY got Acid RR!!! Glad to see some proof of principle <3

the last patch made lots os builds way more viable with changes on necro and nightblade, this build in particular have an outstanding performance even without legendary endgame gear

Wow Ralf. Thank you for this well laid out presentation. It looks so good and I will enjoy following this plan. I always enjoy acid/poison builds and will definitely start another toon following this guide :stuck_out_tongue: It’s going to be so much fun

Thanks for sharing another great build!

I’m curious why you invest into foul eruption since the vit/aether damage isn’t converted (ant least in the leveling spec) (EDIT: I spaced out and forgot it does have 100% vitality to acid conversion!) and I understand the flat RR doesn’t stack with manticore’s acid spray? I have noticed that acid spray triggers in a ring around your character, so perhaps it’s still useful to expand the RR effect to the ravenous earth area?

Chest and off-hand has vit to acid conversion so part of the damage is converted. What if acid spray is not on a monster? I’d make sure Decay is maxed first for some more damage reduction since Foul erupion is not gonna work against single isolated bosses

Ahh, yes, I meant to ask about investment into foul eruption (not decay) when the build also has acid spray as a source for flat RR.

  • everything “Reduced” in this game only counts once (the highest source you have)

  • I don’t think it’s true that Acid Spray works around character, I think you confused it with Scorpion which behaves like that. And it’s good to put Scorpion on i.e. Deathstalker pet from relic for this reason

Thanks, I looked a bit more closely and it turns out my Leafmane Horn has 10% chance to cast poison nova, which I thought was acid spray since I saw it periodically trigger after casting RE (which I have bound acid spray to)!

Could you explain this a bit more? I’ve reread the conversion section of the game guide a few times and I would have thought that 1) global conversion doesn’t change % boosts, so abomination would still boost % vitality, and 2) the % vitality boosts would apply AFTER damage is converted and not before, therefore doing nothing for the build since it has 100% conversion.

That said, since Leafmane Horn provides skill conversion for RE and DEE it seems like abomination boosts might apply to the vitality damage component of those specific skills??

Thinking too much about conversions hurts my head

I’d take two nodes in Torch for +5% OA instead of the vit branch of abomination

Man, i gotta read that section again :joy:

But to be more precise, i’m gonna do a DPS test later

Are you a Vietnamese Ralf =))))
I think I just saw Unikey

Brazilian  :handshake:

These 400 Health, 40 OA and 100% Health Regen from 2p of the right part of Abomination are solid
I take oftem too with Acid builds, although usually I have Chaos → Acid conversion then to convert the flat

Thank you for the nice build. Your guids are very nice in general. Already followed a few. All very concise and clear. Helps alot!

ty very much bro! glad those guides are being useful :raised_hands:

I have followed your blade arc warlord and storm totem druid builds in hardcore and they have done great so far, both are level 50 completing veteran and starting elite. Thank you for making some easy to follow and clear guides! I plan on trying this one next.

I started using your guides as I noticed you play with a controller. This build obviously has more than 2 skills in the rotation, so I have to ask, how do you have your controls set up? I can see in your videos that you have two sets of A and X buttons on your skill bar and your potions look to be bound to the same button as well. Any insight is appreciated, but I mainly wanted to thank you for the guides, cheers!

Hi there! Ty for the reply!
Yeah i configure my controller on steam always binding the energy/health potions on the “L1” button, and i set the “R1” for buffs that needs to be activated always like pneumatic burst or blood of dreeg (leave them in repeat and alternate for that).

And for some “pianoish” gameplays like this acid caster, i bind two actions for one button (use it mainly on a cooldown skill so you can press the button and activate the two skills selected).

And ty for the feedback too!
I’m glad to hear my builds are enduring well the HC challenge!
