I have been looking at the game, and am considering a loyalist pledge. But well, I am very unsure about it, as the game won’t have any closed servers.
I loved Diablo 1, which was an amazing game, and I played it only solo. The same goes for Diablo 2, which I began playing multiplayer 1 year after release. I gotta say, that closed servers pretty much changed everything in D2, that was an absolutely amazing experience, that just could keep one playing for hours every day in years to come.
I am playing PoE a little atm. But it does unfortunately lack the charm of Diablo 1 and 2, a charm which this game seem to have. This game will eventually lack the closed servers which PoE have. Oh ze misery.
I might pledge for the game, but I am very sad, that it seems that there won’t ever be a game like D2 again (D3 did change the magic formula to the worse). Anyways I like the game’s design, and music (who is the composer?).
Sad it is. I quit D2 becuase of cheaters. D3? There is no D3 in my dictionary. I don’t think the game pretend to be D3 is not D3 to me. For GD? Sadly Crate has really talented minds but is not big enough. The only thing that I want is that GD being a huge hit to make Crate bigger!
Crate Entertainment have stated that they would love to have closed servers if they had the money for it.
I believe they said that closed servers would be added if they had 3 million dollars or something which is far too much at this moment. Perhaps if the game did extremely well we’d see closed servers but right now it isn’t feasible.
So don’t give up hope totally as this feature isn’t struck off the list, it just hasn’t been added.
And anyways their will be lots of other features that Grim Dawn will have which will make it pretty awesome in it’s own way. This isn’t a D2 clone.
I’m not necessarily interested in a Diablo 2 clone, but an ARPG without closed servers just isn’t that fun. The game in itself looks fun as hell, but grinding without other purpose than getting through the game just gets stale very fast.
So you want ladders or something? Perhaps a race to level 50 (eventually 250… lol)? Unique items like D2 that only drop in ladder?
GD multiplayer will have 4-6 players, and supports lan, online and offline capabilities. So you can still play with other people online, but it won’t be a secure no mods/cheating allowed kind of server so you’d have to play with a group of people who don’t cheat or mod for advantages.
Well, closed servers = no mods, no cheats. Which eventually means an economy. Without that it becomes a singleplayer-experience (mainly) which is over after a few playthroughs.
When I see “closed servers” I see botting, pay to win through websites, advertisement spamming, and so on which is prevalent in D2, D3, and probably PoE as well.
And as I said you can always find people who use no mods or cheats, though I doubt their would be an economy if it’s on a smaller scale.
First of all, welcome NingHaw. Always glad to see new members streaming in.
If you’re not completely sure about supporting Grim Dawn & prefer multiplayer, I’d suggest going for the $18 edition. I don’t think they’ll integrate multiplayer before the final release of the game (I can be wrong though).
And GD surely is worth $18, I personally guarantee you that.
In can relate to your “closed server”-issue. I myself do like the social aspect of gaming as well, having friends to play with, an economy and -why not- some competition. However there’ll have to be taken strict measures against botting & no pay2win like Demasked stated.
I also understand those people preferring the singleplayer/LAN experience.
I personally would like to see both options to be available, catering to everyones wishes. However choices have to be made, certainly considering the low budget CE is working with.
I have no understanding whatsoever about running closed servers and the exact monthly cost of it, but (speaking for myself) I’d be willing to contribute a small amount/month to get one up & running. GD feels like a game that would be worth it.
But each is entitled to it’s own opinion and eventually I’ll roll with whatever CE offers. We’ll have to wait & see how the game and its community develops after final release I guess.
I might go for the $20 - as the game, like you said, seems like being worth the singleplayer experience. If there at any point gets news about Closed severs I’ll probably upgrade to a higher pledge.
The game looks very nice, and that is the reason why I really would like to see it go live with a economy + online community.
A fair choice Ning.
Feel free to post any questions you have about the game on the forums. There are enough community members willing to answer them for you.
Yeah i really liked the option van helseng had or still have to store your character in the cloud, so that you can not alter it in anyway, dont think this would prevent bots. But atleast give you a secure way to store you progress if it does not do it already
